Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Duolingo on students' vocabulary mastery and writing competence, as well as the simultaneous effect on both. The population of this study was 8th-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja in the academic year 2022/2023, totaling 329 students. The sample of this study involved 67 students, consisting of 34 students in the experimental group and 33 students in the control group. Multistage sampling was used as a sampling technique. Data were collected through a post-test covering writing competency tests and vocabulary tests. The data were analyzed using one-way MANOVA through the SPSS 22.0 application. The results showed that 1) there was a simultaneous effect of using Duolingo on students' vocabulary mastery and writing competence; 2) students who were taught using Duolingo showed better vocabulary mastery than those who were taught using conventional media; and 3) students who were taught using Duolingo showed better writing competence than those who were taught using conventional media. Thus, this study indicates that Duolingo enables students to acquire new vocabulary and master it so that their writing competence increases and motivates students to learn English in a fun way.

Abstract

Jargon yang ada dalam tradisi sabung ayam tradisional umumnya hanya digunakan oleh masyarakat yang bergabung dan datang ke arena upacara sabung ayam tradisional. Artinya, jargon sabung ayam tradisional hanya diketahui oleh pemain dan orang-orang yang terlibat dalam sabung ayam tradisional ini. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk menemukan jargon yang ada dalam tradisi perayaan sabung ayam. Penelitian ini didesain dalam bentuk penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yaitu observasi dan wawancara. Wawancara dilaksanakan dengan mewawancarai dua informan terpercaya. Teknik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data yaitu analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis data meliputi pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan akhir, dan verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 43 jargon yang ditemukan di tradisi perayaan sabung ayam ini. Jargon tersebut dibedakan menjadi 2 tipe, yaitu word formation process dan word class. 25 word class, 12 affixations, dan 6 compounding words. Semua jargons memiliki arti masing-masing yang akan digunakan oleh para pemain (bobotoh) di arena sabung ayam.

Abstract

This study aimed at describing the prefixes and suffixes of the Balinesse language spoken in Dausa, Kintamani Sub-District, Bangli district, and Banjar Tengah Regency in Bali. The prefixes and suffixes described in this study belong to the one categorized as derivational and inflectional morphemes. This descriptive qualitative research involved three informants as the source of study data. They were selected based on a set of criteria suggested by Samarin (1998). The data were collected based on three techniques, namely: observation, recording technique, and interview. The researcher studied Dausa, observing, recording, and noting informants' data. Then transcribed, categorized, and translated the data into Indonesian, identified prefixes and suffixes, formulating rules for derivational and inflectional morphemes based on the data display. The results of the study show that there are seven kinds of prefixes found in the language. The prefixes include {bΛ-}, {bǝ-}, {mɅ-}, {n-}, {ŋ-}, {ñ-}, and {mә-}, and there are five kinds of suffixes which include {-Ʌŋ}, {-In}, {-Ʌn}, {-Ʌ}, and {-ē}. Among them, there are three kinds of prefixes: {mɅ-}, {ŋ-}, and {mә-}, and there are four kinds of suffixes: {-Ʌŋ}, {-In}, {-Ʌn}, and {-Ʌ} that are categorized as derivational morphemes. There were five kinds of prefixes: {bΛ-}, {bǝ-}, {ŋ-}, {ñ-}, {mǝ-}, and five kinds of suffixes: {-ē}, {-Ʌŋ}, {-in}, {-Ʌn}, and {-Ʌ} which are categorized as inflectional morphemes. The study informs academics about Balinese morphemes.

Abstract

TikTok application is one of the most used applications recently. From 14 years old until 30 years old people spend more than 30 minutes a day opening this application. Enormous, interesting videos with varied topics make many people like TikTok. Besides that, they can create their video easily with the features which are already provided. This phenomenon affects education as well. Teachers try to utilize this application as their learning media. Not only that, but teachers also create their accounts and upload videos that are related to the learning process or education. Therefore, the researcher is interested to know how the language used by teachers in TikTok shapes their identity. The researcher analyzed two subjects, two of them teachers in different countries. This research used a qualitative method that describes the language used in three videos in teachers’ TikTok accounts and analyses it.  The findings revealed that both teachers wanted to be seen as capable and friendly teachers because they know how to build an interesting learning process and build good relationships with their students.

Abstract

This research aims to know the types of lexicons used during the Metajen tradition in Sukadana Village, Karangasem Regency. This study is a qualitative study using 2 (two) experts in this field, namely the elderly (penua) and also the local village apparatus. The instruments in this study are the researchers themselves, the observation sheet, the interview guide, the recording tool and the phone camera. From this study, a number of lexicons and cultural meanings can be found in the study: a total of 64 (sixty-four), displayed in (24) lexicon about type or roosters, fourteen (14) Lexicons about betting code, eight (8) lexicons about instruments used, (7) lexicon for roles of people in the tradition, and eleven (11) lexicons of type of taji or sharp knives used and how it is being installed in the feet of the roosters. The cultural meaning of this activity was a component of a cultural ceremonies known as the mecaru ceremony or Tabuh Rah, which is identical to the Hindu ceremony specifically any Bhuta Yadnya upakara.

Abstract

One of the challenges in educational places is to make a suitable program, which is expected to help the students to be more active in teaching and learning processes, especially in English class. One of the institutions that provides English programs is Fadhilatul Islmiyah Islamic Boarding School. Then, this study aims to evaluate the English program, namely the Integration of English Language Learning Program. The evaluation uses the CIPP model by Stufflebeam (1971). The study uses a qualitative method with a case study. The participants are five students, two teachers, and a headmaster at Fadhilatul Islmiyah Islamic Boarding School. The data analysis uses thematic analysis from both teacher and student views following context, input, process, and product stages. The context evaluation showed the students' need to learn grammar and vocabulary. Input evaluation found that the curriculum, syllabus, and textbook are designed by the English teacher. Process evaluation found that the teacher used game and role-play strategies to improve student's speaking skills. Lastly, product evaluation is used to determine whether the program is effective or not, and it uses a test. Then, it found that the result of the post-test was higher than the pre-test.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berusaha untuk menggambarkan bentuk kata terbalik digunakan oleh orang-orang di Tianyar Timur dalam proses morfologi dan untuk menggambarkan fungsi kata terbalik dalam percakapan sehari-hari. Obyek penelitian terbalik kata-kata sebuah studi morfologi dilakukan dalam bahasa Bali yang digunakan dalam Tianyar Timur. Mereka adalah tiga jenis pembentukan kata yang ditemukan dalam kata-kata terbalik yang digunakan dalam Tianyar Timur: 1) tipe pertama pembentukan kata dibentuk dengan mengucapkan suku kata dari kata dari suku kata kembali ke suku kata depan, 2) jenis kedua kata formasi dibentuk dengan mengucapkan huruf dari kata dari huruf terakhir dengan huruf depan, 3) jenis ketiga adalah suara vokal: A, I, U, E, O, e yang konstanta, dan suara konsonan harus diubah menjadi: BJ, CD, F, P, V NY, GW, HR, Q, KN, LT, Y NG, MS, Z. Kata akan berubah karena; kata ini memiliki suara yang sama dan suara dari kata yang penting. Kata Kunci : Kata Terbalik, studi morfologi, Pidato Community. ABSTRACT This study attempted to describe the forms of the reversed word used by people in Tianyar timur in morphological process and to describe the function of the reversed word in daily conversation. The objects of study were reversed words a morphological study conducted in the Balinese language used in Tianyar Timur. They were three types of word formation found in the reversed words used in Tianyar Timur: 1) the first type of word formation was formed by uttering the syllable of the word from the back syllable to the front syllable, 2) the second type of word formation was formed by uttering the letter of the word from the last letter to the front letter, 3) the third type is the vocal sound: A,I,U,E,O,e are constants, and the consonant sound must be changed to become: B J, C D, F,P,V NY, G W, H R, Q,K N, L T, Y NG, M S,Z. The word changes because; this word has a same sound and the sound of the word which is important. Abstract

Penelitian ini dibatasi untuk menyelidiki efek penggunaan boneka (Puppet) sebagai media pembelajaran untuk kompetensi berbicara dari siswa kelas tujuh di SMP N 2 Singaraja pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Dalam penelitian eksperimen ini ada dua kelompok yang dipilih sebagai sampel penelitian dengan menggunakan Cluster Random Sampling. Satu kelompok menjadi kelompok eksperimen yang akan diajarkan dengan menggunakan media boneka (Puppet), sementara itu yang satunya lagi sebagai kelompok kontrol yang akan diajarkan dengan menggunakan media konvensional. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode posttest only control group. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil yang didapatkan signifikan,ini dapat dilihat pada nilai rata-rata kedua grup dimana nilai rata-rata grup experimental adalah 80.83 dan nilai rata-rata grup control adalah 71.50;hasil dari to (t observed) adalah 4.193 dan ini lebih tinggi dari tcv (t critical value) yang nilainya 1.96 (a=0.5). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa media boneka (Puppet) memberikan efek yang lebih baik dalam berbicara daripada media konvensional. Kata Kunci : Puppet, Instructional Media, Speaking Competency This research was restricted to investigate the effect of puppet use as teaching media for speaking competency of the seventh grade students at SMP N 2 Singaraja in the academic year 2014/2015. In this experimental research there were two groups selected as sample of research by using cluster random sampling. One group becomes experimental group which will be taught by using puppet media meanwhile another one as control group which will be taught by using conventional media. This research was carried out by using posttest only control group. The data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The result were significant, it can be seen from both group’s mean score where experimental group score was 80.83 while control group score was 71.50; the value of to (t observed) was 4.193 and it was higher than tcv (t critical value) that was 1.96 (a=0.5). Abstract

Ini adalah penelitian eksperimen, dimana bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada berbicara siswa yang diajar dengan tehnik Role Play dan tehnik konvensional di siswa kelas 10. Cluster Random Sampling adalah tehnik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam studi ini, dimana dua kelas dipilih secara acak sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Hasil dari descriptive statistics menunjukan hasil rerata nilai kelompok eksperimen 73.96 dan kelompok control 64.58. Lebih lanjut, analisis secara statistik inferensial menunjukan nilai t observed (to) adalah 3.198. Nilai tersebut lebih besar dari nilai t critical value (tcv) yaitu 1.67 (α = .05). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, bisa di simpulkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada hasil berbicara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan tehnik Role Play dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan tehnik konvensional. The result of descriptive statistics shows that the mean score of experimental group was 73.96 while the control group was 64.58. Furthermore, from the analysis by using inferential statistic, it was found that the value of t observed (to) was 3.198. It was higher than t critical value (tcv) which was 1.67 (α = .05). Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jumlah prefiks dan suffiks di Dialek Tianyar dan jenisnya dari Infleksi dan Derivasi. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif Qualitatif. Dua sampel informan dari Dialek Tianyar dipilih berdasarkan seperangkat kriteria. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan 3 tehnik, yakni: tehnik observasi, merekam, dan wawancara (mencatat dan mendengarkan). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada lima jenis prefiks dan lima jenis suffiks di Dialek Tianyar. Prefiks tersebut yakni prefiks {N-}, {ma-}, {sa-}, {pa-}, dan {ka-}. Suffiks tersebut yakni suffiks {-in}, {-ne}, {-an}, {-ang}, dan {-e}. Jenis prefiks dan suffiks yang tergolong derivasi adalah prefiks{N-}, {ma-}, {sa-}, {pa}, and {ka-} dan suffiks {-ang}, {an}, {-ne}, dan {-in}.
