Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of the guided inquiry learning model through experiments on the improvement of students’ conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills, as well as its correlation with dynamic electricity material. This research is an experimental quantitative study with a pretest-posttest control design. The research sample consists of students from class 9D and 9E at SMP Negeri 1 Winong Pati. The Cronbach Alpha reliability test yielded a value range of 0.60 ≤rxy≤ 0.80, which falls into the high category. The feasibility test of the instrument material has been validated by expert validators with an average score of 4.60, falling into the very good category. The analysis results show that the N-gain test results are in the range of 0.3-0.7 with a moderate category. The results of the paired samples t-test with a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The results of the product moment correlation test obtained a significance value of 0.017 < 0.05. Based on all the criteria of the analysis results, it can be concluded that the guided inquiry learning model through experiments is quite effective and has an impact on improving students’ conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills, and there is a significant correlation between the improvement in conceptual understanding and students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Critical Thinking and Environmental Awareness Among Elementary School Student through mini research learning on Ecosystem material, utilizing Semarang’s local potential. The research method employed is qualitative with descriptive qualitative analysis. The subjects of the study were Phase C students from Grade 6 at elementary school (SD) Nongkosawit 01 and SD Islam Bintang Juara, located in Gunungpati, Semarang City. Mini research learning is a teaching method that guides students in conducting scientific processes. This approach leverages Semarang’s local potential, specifically the Tapak Mangrove Forest in Tugurejo, Semarang City, allowing students to learn about the Ecosystem material more contextually and concretely. Ecosystem material is one of the essential topics in the curriculum. The study assessed two main student character traits: critical reasoning and environmental awareness. The analysis of critical reasoning, based on the LKPD assessment and N-gain scores, showed good results. Similarly, environmental awareness, as measured by a questionnaire, indicated that 79.64% of students demonstrated strong character in this area. Based on the findings, mini research learning that incorporates Semarang’s local potential is effective in fostering critical reasoning and environmental awareness among elementary school students.

Abstract

Digital literacy is critical in supporting Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) by providing access to information, raising awareness, and encouraging engagement with environmental, social, and economic issues through technology. As part of 21st-century skills, digital literacy empowers educators and learners to utilize digital platforms for interactive and practical learning while fostering critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity to address sustainability challenges. Digital literacy also supports innovation in sustainable practices such as renewable energy, precision agriculture, and responsible resource management. This study aims to analyze the digital literacy needs of prospective science teacher students in order to strengthen their capacity to integrate technology into ESD-oriented learning. The study employed a quantitative descriptive survey design, utilizing the Rasch Rating Scale Model, to systematically analyze students' digital literacy competence. A total of 140 second-semester students from two universities completed a 20-item closed-ended questionnaire on a 4-point scale. The results indicated deficiencies in several areas, including information retrieval, scientific writing, participation in digital platforms, collaboration, and digital ethics, often due to the lack of supportive learning models and limited opportunities for real-life application. The findings contribute to science education by providing empirical evidence on specific digital literacy gaps, informing the design of instructional models, training programs, and curriculum innovations to enhance digital literacy for ESD in science education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics of project-based science learning materials developed using the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach and to analyze their feasibility and effectiveness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) design with the ADDIE model, consisting of five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The developed product comprised a set of science learning materials for Grade VII on the topic of Motion and Force, integrating local cultural contexts into every stage of the project-based learning process. The resulting materials included a teaching module, student worksheets, and supplementary resources designed to be contextual, communicative, and aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum. Expert validation indicated that the materials were highly feasible in terms of content, language, visual presentation, and integration of local cultural values. Practicality testing revealed that both teachers and students considered the materials easy to use, engaging, and relevant to their real-life experiences. Effectiveness testing through a post-test design demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ conceptual understanding of science, as well as enhanced motivation and collaborative skills. In conclusion, the project-based science learning materials developed with the CRT approach are considered feasible, practical, and effective, particularly in fostering contextual and inclusive learning for Grade VII students.

Abstract

The change in curriculum to the Merdeka Curriculum provides a lot of changes in learning strategies, approaches, methods and models. Students need learning methods that can bring them to have the ability to be responsive to local, national and global issues and play an active role in providing problem-solving solutions. The purpose of this study was to test PjBL and JAS-based learning using student worksheets as learning tools. Students are asked to actively discuss, observe, explore and create a product. The N-Gain test results show that student worksheets are effective for improving students' problem solving skills and creativity. Problem solving ability and creativity of experimental class students are better when compared to control class students. The Mann-Whitney Test results show that there is a significant difference in value between the control class and the experimental class. Classical learning completeness of experimental class students was better than control class students.

Abstract

Sustainable environmental literacy is an important competency in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially for prospective science teacher students. This study aims to identify the need for sustainable environmental literacy as a basis for developing measurement instruments that are relevant to the context of education and global environmental challenges. This study uses a descriptive approach by compiling indicators based on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor dimensions, and considering aspects of social awareness and real action. The results of the analysis show a gap between students' pro-environmental knowledge and attitudes and their actual behavior in everyday life. This finding emphasizes the importance of instruments that are able to describe environmental literacy conditions holistically to support transformative education and form agents of change who care about environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Most education systems have not fully supported the development of students’ critical thinking skills, partly due to the limitations of teaching materials that only refer to textbooks. Complex material such as Earth Structure requires a more contextual and meaningful approach. One strategy that can be used is the development of ethnoscience-laden e-supplementary teaching materials that link the material with local wisdom. This study aims to analyze the validity, practicality, effectiveness, and characteristics of Ethnoscience-Laden E-Supplement Teaching Materials to improve students’ critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes. The research used the ADDIE development model with instruments in the form of questionnaires, validation sheets, pretests, and posttests. The results showed that the E-Supplement was feasible to use in learning, with material validity of 94% and media of 95% (very valid category). The E-Supplement was also effective in improving critical thinking skills (average 69%, high category) and cognitive learning outcomes (N-Gain 61%, moderately effective category). Practicality was rated very well by teachers (97.67%) and students (85%). The characteristics of the E-Supplement are contextual, practical, and easy to use, and they raise the ethnoscience of the Sikidang Crater legend to increase student involvement and understanding in learning.
