Abstract

Despite the growing recognition of positive effects on children's physical, cognitive, social and emotional development through outdoor learning within early childhood education (ECE), these practices are inconsistently integrated into ECE curricula. Current study analyses bibliometric research to explore the trend in fitness training and highlights pertinent authors who conducted valuable research on this issue. Through DimensionAI system, 43 publications were found using “outdoor learning” AND "early childhood" in Titles and Abstracts fields; Among them: After the application of inclusion criteria for OA (open access) articles by English language indexed also ownership as an open repository through Dimensions we selected a total number n =18 articles which had been published between years from 2015 to date. Based on Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer was employed to construct the co-authorship networks of authors and characterize patterns in terms of citation or between subfields. Analysis indicates a marked increase in research activity over the last few years, which is reflective of an increased interest in outdoor learning. At the same time, it identifies limitations such a focus on as minority of scholars influencing outdoor learning research and limited incorporation into larger educational frameworks. More research is needed on practical challenges and for this generation, in resource-constrained settings. These results also underscore the need to broaden both representation within research and practical approaches of outdoor early education. Findings from the study of research provide a snapshot on what we know and do not know, as well promising directions for researchers to continue with their work in order to help reduce inequity.

Abstract

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022, a preliminary investigation revealed an increase in untreated anxiety symptoms among young people living in rural Bali. The isolation, economic uncertainty, and other stressors exacerbated mental health issues, particularly anxiety, making it imperative to develop accessible interventions. Brief-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (B-CBT) is widely recognized as an effective treatment for anxiety disorders, yet its accessibility remains limited in rural areas, where mental health resources are scarce. Purpose: This study aimed to develop and evaluate the feasibility of a mobile-based intervention, Mobile Brief-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MB-CBT), designed to help young adults in rural Bali manage and reduce anxiety symptoms. The objective was to assess the usability, effectiveness, and community acceptance of the MB-CBT prototype. Method: A mixed-methods approach was employed to test the feasibility and usability of the MB-CBT prototype. Quantitative assessments included the System Usability Scale (SUS) and pre- and post-intervention measures of anxiety and stress using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Content validation was performed through semi-structured interviews with participants to assess the relevance and clarity of the app’s content. Findings: The MB-CBT intervention significantly reduced anxiety (p≤0.002) and perceived stress (p≤0.000) among participants. The System Usability Scale (SUS) score was 74.5, indicating good usability and high community acceptance. Content validation through interviews indicated that participants found the app’s content highly relevant and user-friendly, with a very good level of content validity. Implication: The findings suggest that MB-CBT is an effective and feasible tool for addressing anxiety and stress in young adults in rural Bali. The high usability score and positive content validation support the potential for expanding such digital mental health interventions to other underserved rural areas. Healthcare providers should consider integrating mobile-based CBT into mental health programs for young adults in rural settings to address the increasing need for accessible mental health resources.

Abstract

The transformation of language learning in early childhood education has become an important issue in the discourse of education in the Society 5.0 era, which emphasizes the integration of technology and human values. This article discusses the implementation of the One Teacher One Language (OTOL) system as a strategic approach in creating a multilingual learning environment at TK Nasional 3 Bahasa Budi Luhur. The purpose of this research is to analyze the implementation of the One Teacher One Language (OTOL) system, its supporting systems, and the role of facilities in creating a consistent learning ecosystem for three languages: Indonesian, English, and Mandarin. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analyzed using NVivo 14 software through the stages of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings show that OTOL is implemented systematically through the division of teacher roles, cultural integration, facility enhancement, and parental involvement, despite facing challenges in coordination and continuity between sessions. The main contribution of this article lies in the empirical mapping of how OTOL can become a transformative learning model in multilingual education based on the values of Society 5.0. These results are important for strengthening early childhood education practices amid the demands of globalization, as well as serving as a strategic reference for the development of contextual and sustainable multilingual education curricula and policies.

Abstract

As role models, teachers hold great potential to influence their student's literacy. The present study explored Indonesian teachers' reading habits and literacy practices. In this qualitative descriptive study, 75 EFL teachers from different provinces in Indonesia enrolled in the Kelas Kreatif Indonesia English Club and became respondents to the survey. The study employed questionnaires and interviews to collect data. The study revealed that regarding the frequency of reading, 36 teachers did not allocate exact time for reading, while 39 and 9 teachers allocated one and two hours a week, respectively. The teachers read a combination of material: online or printed textbooks/modules/articles, online/printed newspapers and magazines, and literary texts such as online/printed novels, short stories, and poems. They mostly read for professional and pleasure purposes, and a small number of teachers reads for test preparation. The teachers affect their students' literacy by promoting their students' reading habits by integrating various tasks that require reading and writing with opportunities for students to retell and share their reading results and writing products in open discussions. The teachers fostered the students' awareness of reading by giving reading tasks, sharing and discussing the reading experience, establishing literacy groups, forming reading corners, using the text or result of reading as learning resources, and posting the reading activities on social media. This study shows that teachers are potential influencers on the environment. Thus, further research should be conducted on the influence of reading habits on teachers' literacy performance on a larger scale.

Abstract

The novel as a work of literature may contain beneficial insights, including pedagogical philosophies. The present study aimed to discover constructivist teacher strategies used by Miss Honey, the teacher character in Roald Dahl's Matilda. Through qualitative method enriched with the constructivist perspective, the study revealed that Miss Honey employed eight constructivist strategies as an elementary school teacher in her class. The first strategy was encouraging students' autonomy and initiative by letting them try reading a long sentence on the blackboard before giving examples of how to read them. The second strategy was the use of primary and physical materials as the source of manipulative and interactive materials, such as exercise books, poetry books, and posters. The third strategy involved inviting the students' responses during the learning activities and making them active. The fourth strategy was allowing the students to construct their conceptual knowledge before concluding it. The fifth strategy was encouraging teacher-students and peer dialogues. Miss Honey also trained students' cognition by using open-ended questions. Besides, Miss Honey also sought elaboration of students' initial responses to cultivate their reasoning. The last constructivist strategy implemented by Miss Hone was allowing the students to think after posing questions to construct their opinions. These findings imply that the novel can be a good reading material for elementary school teachers to illustrate how to implement constructivist strategies in a beginner class.
