Abstract

This study design was cross-sectional study. Examples in this study were teenagers and mothers of three selected junior in Ciampea Sub-district. The number of samples in this study were 100 adolescents and mothers who were selected through cluster random sampling. The results showed the tendency of personality type mostwidely owned mom is conscientiousness that a personality type that thorough, orderly, industrious, diligent, efficient, planners, and think before acting. Positive parenting style dimensions (warmth, regularity, and support independence) has a higher achievement than the dimensions negati f (denial, irregularity, and coercion).Results of the study found no association and the influence of mothers on the independence of adolescent personality. However, the regression test found the influence of mother's personality on mother's nurturing style and only the large family to the independence of rural adolescents.

Abstract

The research was a part of umbrella research which was conducted to evaluate a preschool model established by Indonesia Heritage Foundation and Exxon Mobil Oil at District Aceh Utara, NAD Province, known as Taman Bermain Anak-Semai Benih Bangsa (TBA-SBB). Study design was a cross sectional survey which was done on April to June 2007. The subdistricts selected in the study was purposively chosen in order to compare performance of those attending TBA-SBB, kindergarten (TK) and non preschooler (no preschool education) as control group of the study. From 7 locations there was 7 TBA-SBB, 7 kindergartens and 7 control group which include 10 children per location, for a total of 210 children and their families as sample of the study. Results showed that psycho-social stimulation of those children attending school (TBA-SBB and TK) was significantly higher than control group, while there was no significance difference found between TBASBB dan TK. Character of children attending TBA-SBB was significantly the highest compare to the two groups, while children from TK was higher than control group. This finding showed that in term of child’s character children from TBA-SBB was better although family social economic status is relatively lower than those children from TK. Statistical analysis found that psycho-social stimulation at home had no significant influence while school background (TBA-SBB>TK) was significantly influenced to child’s character and the influence of TBA-SBB is higher than TK. Beside child’s gender (girls>boys)and increasing age of children also significantly influence to child’s character.

Abstract

Optimal growth and development during early childhood will be able to describe a better future, especially for children between 2-5 years old. The aim of the study was to analyze value of child, psychosocial stimulation, and cognitivedevelopment of 2-5 years old children in food insecurity areas at district of Banjarnegara, Jawa Tengah Province. Two subdistrict which were Pejawaran and Punggelan were selected purposively. From each subdistrict, 3 villages were chosen for a total of 6 villages served as site of the study. From each villages, 50 families with its children aged 2-5 years were randomly selected, for a total of 300 families as respondents of this study. Result showed that average score of value of children was 81,2%. It means that parents had high of perception and expectation to their children. Meanwhile, average score of psychosocial stimulation for 2-3 years old children was 49,8% and for 3-5 years old children was 57,4%. The average score of cognitive development for 2-5 years old children was 50,6%, which indicated that children still had low cognitive development. There was significant and possitive correlation between value of children and psychosocial stimulation. In line with this, increasing of psychosocial stimulation score was followed by increasing of child cognitivedevelopment score. Result showed that cognitive development was significantly and positively influenced by length of maternal education, length of child’s participation on preschool education, family economic status, and psychosocial stimulation. On the other hand, increasing of age of children will be followed by decreasing score of cognitive development.

Abstract

The importance of social capital in poor family empowerment to increase their level of life is realized by most stakeholders. Some researchers stated that social capital has significant role in increasing family welfare. The aim of this research was to analyze the correlation between social capital and poor family empowerment through “UEK-SP KUBE Gakin” Program was conducted at Kedung Jaya village, Tanah Sareal sub district of Bogor, West Java. This research used cross sectional study as a study design. Sampling frame of this research were poor families which were intervened by “UEK-SP KUBE Gakin” Program. There were 106 poor families getting loan in 1st period and 2nd period during fiscal year 2005 were drawn for this study. This research was conducted for 5 months (Juni until November 2006). Social capital was measured by 3 variables that are trust, networks, and norms. The improvement of family welfare of the “UEK-SP KUBE Gakin” was assessed by measuring of the changing of economic family condition after participated in that program. This research used Spearman Correlation Test to measure correlation between variables. The results showed that social capital had significant correlation with the increasing of poor family economic welfare of “UEK-SP KUBE Gakin” participants. Social capital variables that had significant correlation with the improvement of family welfare of participants were trust (α = 0.01), “UEK-SP KUBE Gakin” rules (α = 0.0), and networks (α = 0.05).

Abstract

The increasing of internet using among children and adolescents increases the risk of cyberbullying phenomenon. Therefore, it is needed to conduct a study to further analyze the phenomenon of cyberbullying in Indonesia; especially in order to examine the causal factors so could be useful for develop preventing program. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between teenager’s and parent’s characteristics, parent-child communication, and self-control; and cyberbullying among teenager who become junior high school students. This research used cross-sectional study design and was conducted in one of junior high school in Bogor city. The 81 students were chosen by convenience sampling for becoming participants. Data were collected by self-administered in measuring teenager’s perceive on parent-child communication and also measuring self-control and cyberbullying. The results showed that the mean ± SD of index (0-100) for parents-child communication was 67,29± 12,32; teenager’s self-control was 58,96±9,93; and teenager’s cyberbullying 22,32±9,72. Correlation test results showed there was a significant negative relationship between parents-child communication, teenager’s self-control and cyberbullying among teenagers. The results of this study indicates the importance of family and individual factors in reducing cyberbullying in junior high school students.

Abstract

Families whose parents are both working have limited time in nurturing their children. This circumstance makes parents, especially mothers, alternate parenting to the babysitter or caring institution called daycare. This study aimed to analyze the correlation of children's characteristics, caregiver-child interaction, and attachment with the cognitive development of preschool children in daycare. This study used a cross-sectional study design with the daycare (TPA) selection as the research location carried out purposively located in the buffer areas of the capital city of DKI Jakarta. Respondents in this study were 39 children aged 2.5-6.4 years with complete parents and 16 caregivers from four selected TPA who interacted with their children daily. Data was collected by means of in-depth observations to measure the interaction variables between caregivers and children. This study indicates a positive correlation between caregiver-child interaction and attachment with a child's cognitive development. This study also found a significant positive relationship between the caregivers-child interaction with caregivers-child attachments and a significant negative relationship between the child's age and the caregivers-child attachment. This shows that interaction, and attachment between caregivers and children are important factors that can improve cognitive development while in TPA.

Abstract

Parental involvement in education is essential, especially for children with special needs and the existence of inclusive schools supports children's education fairly so that inclusive education services need to prioritize services to achieve parental satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to analyze parental satisfaction with inclusive education services and their relationship to parental involvement. This research was conducted in one of the inclusive schools in East Jakarta. Samples in this study are mothers and fathers from intact families with children with special needs who attend inclusive schools with purposive sampling technique with as many as 30 married couples. The results show a significant positive relationship between the variables of mother's satisfaction with father's satisfaction and father's engagement with father's satisfaction. Moreover, mother’s engagement was significantly related to mother’s education, while mother’s satisfaction positively correlated with mother’s age. A significant negative relationship was found between mother's satisfaction and father's education; father's engagement with child's age and length of getting inclusive services. The effect test found that the father's satisfaction was significantly affected by father's involvement and mother's satisfaction, while mother’s satisfaction was significantly affected by mother’s age and father's satisfaction. Inclusive schools need to provide optimal services and involve parents in schools to feel satisfied.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara pengasuhan penerimaanpenolakan yang dilakukan orang tua dan lingkungan pengasuhan pada keluarga dengan anak remaja  di wilayah suburban (perbatasan desa dan kota). Penelitian melibatkan 50 keluarga yang dipilih secara acak dari kerangka contoh dan diwawancarai menggunakan kuesioner. Pengasuhan penerimaan-pe- nolakan diukur dengan menggunakan Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ) dan lingkungan  pengasuhan diukur dengan menggunakan Home Observation and Measurement of the Environment tipe Early Adolescent (HOME-EA). Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya hubungan nyata antara usia remaja dengan perilaku agresif orang tua. Pendidikan ibu yang semakin meningkat berhubungan nyata dengan lingkungan pengasuhan keluarga yang semakin baik. Hasil juga menunjukkan bahwa pengasuhan penerimaan-penolakan berhubungan nyata dengan kualitas pengasuhan pada keluarga dengan anak remaja di wilayah suburban.   Kata Kunci: HOME-EA, lingkungan pengasuhan, pengasuhan penerimaan-penolakan, PARQ, wilayah suburban PARENTAL ACCEPTANCE DETERMINES ENVIRONMENTAL PARENTING  OF FAMILIES WITH ADOLESCENCE IN THE SUBURBAN AREA Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between parental acceptance-rejection and parenting environment in families with adolescence in the suburban area. This study involved 50 families randomly selected. Data were collected by using questionnaire and structured interview. Parental  acceptance-rejection was measured by Parental Acceptance Rejection Questionnaire (PARQ) and parental environment was measured by Home Observation and Measurement of the Environment type Early Adolescent (HOME-EA). The result showed that there was a significant relationship  between age of adolescence and parents’ aggressive behavior. Meanwhile, longer mothers’ education  was significantly correlated with better parenting environment of the family. The results also revealed  that there was a significant  correlation between parental acceptance-rejection and parenting environment in families with adolescence in the suburban area.    Keywords: HOME-EA, parental acceptance-rejection, parenting environment, PARQ, suburban area

Abstract

PIK-R (Pusat Informasi Konseling Remaja) as one of the programs for adolescents is expected to be able to contribute positively in developing positive behavior and suppress the potential for negative adolescent behavior. This study aims to analyze the positive and negative behavior of high/vocational school students and their relation to knowledge, participation, and effectiveness of the PIK-R program at school. This study used a cross sectional study design involving 687 students in selected public and private high/vocational schools in Bekasi City, Indonesia. Structured questionnaire is used to measure the students’ characteristics, the students’ negative behavior, and the effectiveness of the PIK-R program. The study found that only 54.88% of students were aware of the PIK-R program and only 8.11% attended the program. Even so, the results of different tests show that students who take part in the PIK-R program show significantly lower negative behaviors, especially in pornography, online games, and smoking addiction. In addition, it was also found that male students tended to have higher negative behavior than female students. The results of multiple linear regression also show the real effect of the PIK-R program in suppressing the negative behaviors of adolescents.

Abstract

The persistent character formed is inseparable from the parents factor, such as mother's spiritual intelligence, moral socialization, and mother-child interaction. The objectives of this research are to: (1) identify and analyze the relationship between family and child characteristics, mother’s spiritual intelligence, moral socialization, and mother-child interaction with children's persistent character in urban slum area. This study used cross-sectional study design and purposive location selection. Respondents of this study included 44 mothers and 44 children aged 8-12 years who attend formal school, and live in slums in one area of North Jakarta. The average achievement of the mother's spiritual intelligence, moral socialization, and mother-child interaction, and the persistent character of the children based on the index are categorized as good enough. The results of the correlation test indicate that large of family, mother’s spiritual intelligence, moral socialization, and mother-child interaction had positively correlation with the persistent character of school age children. A significant positive relationship also occurs between spiritual intelligence and moral socialization. The mother-child interaction with moral socialization and mother’s spiritual intelligence also showed a very significant relationship.
