Abstract

This community service program (PKM) aimed to strengthen the capacity of two partners—the Mbuah Page Farmers’ Group and the Youth Organization of Lau Solu Village—through outreach, training, hands-on implementation, and intensive mentoring on three appropriate technologies: floating rice rafts, backyard hydroponics, and the production of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) based on local microorganisms. The methods included open outreach sessions, stepwise practical training, technology implementation on partners’ fields/yards, and weekly monitoring over three months using pre- and post-tests. Results show increased knowledge and skills among participants; a floating-raft prototype operated on flood-prone plots, an NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) backyard hydroponics system functioned as a demonstration unit, and household-scale LOF production became routine. Early impacts were observed in more efficient input use, greater availability of quick-harvest vegetables, and strengthened organizational governance within the Youth Organization. The program concluded with a sustainability plan comprising basic production kits for three cropping cycles, farm-business management training, and assistance in drafting proposals for support from the village government/BUMDes.

Abstract

Endophytic bacteria have the potential as environmentally friendly biocontrol agents in controlling bacterial leaf blight (BLB) in rice caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo). This study aims to isolate, characterize morphology and biochemical tests, and test the antagonistic activity of endophytic bacteria from rice against Xoo. Isolation was carried out from healthy rice root tissue using a surface sterilization method. Morphological characterization included colony shape, color, edge, elevation, and Gram properties, while biochemical characterization included catalase, oxidase, motility, starch hydrolysis, and sugar fermentation tests. The antagonistic test used a dual culture assay method on NA (nutrient agar) media. The isolation results obtained six endophytic bacterial isolates (BETP 01–06) identified as the genus Pseudomonas and Bacillus with varying colony morphological characters. Antimicrobial activity test showed two potential isolates, BETP 03 (Pseudomonas) and BETP 05 (Bacillus), with an average inhibitory diameter of 16.3 mm and 16.5 mm against Xoo, respectively. Biochemical characterization showed that BETP 03 was bacillus, Gram-negative, citrate-negative, motile, gelatin hydrolysis positive, starch hydrolysis positive, and catalase positive; while BETP 05 was bacillus, Gram-positive, citrate-positive, motile, gelatin hydrolysis negative, starch hydrolysis positive, and catalase positive. These results indicate that both isolates have high potential as biological biocontrol agents in controlling bacterial leaf blight disease in rice.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan Berdasarkan permasalahan  mitra yang dirumuskan, pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk: memberdayakan masyarakat di lokasi pengabdian dengan kearifan lokal tentang inventarisasi produk dan penamaan (naming) tanaman sayuran di lokasi pengabdian, memberdayakan masyarakat di lokasi pengabdian dengan informasi tanaman organik yang lebih sehat untuk konsumsi masyarakat, dan memberdayakan masyarakat di lokasi pengabdian dengan informasi tentang cara membuat pupuk organik dan penanaman tanaman organik. Tujuan pengabdian ini akan menghasilkan terbentuknya kelompok masyarakat yang memiliki pengetahuan lokal dari segi wacana rakyat dan penamaan produk yang berkenaan dengan tanaman organik dan akan menghasilkan bibit dan pupuk organik di lokasi peengabdian yang dikerjakan masyarakat setempat sehingga dapat ditanam di ladang masyarakat setempat. Perlu diketahui bahwa di desa Sambi Rejo Kecamatan Binjai tidak memanfaatkan tanaman organik yang daat digunakan menjadi pupuk organik untuk tanaman sayuran di daerah tersebut sehingga hasil pengabdian ini akan bermanfaat pada lingkungan desa Sambi Rejo Kecamatan Binjai di lokasi pengabdian. Hasil pengabdian Media Tanam Organik ini akan memberikan urgensi praktis dan urgensi teoretis sebagai urgensi pengabdian. Urgensi praktis berguna pada masyarakat dan pemerintah di lokasi pengabdian serta untuk memperkaya pengetahuan lokal dan kearifan lokal tentang pembuatan pupuk organik di lokasi pengabdian sedangkan urgensi teoretis terutama berguna pada bidang keilmuan

Abstract

In order to succeed in the development of agricultural sector in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture Number 67/Permentan/SM.050/12/2016 concerning Farmer Institutional Development, it is necessary to provide community service in the agricultural sector and plant cultivation as efforts to strengthen food self-sufficiency, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic. For this reason, we need to carry out community service activities for the production of liquid organic fertilizer using microorganism Bacillus cereus in Pantai Cermin Village, Tanjung Pura District. As we know Pantai Cermin Village, Tanjung Pura District, Langkat which about is 63.6 Km from Medan. In general, the majority of farmers own rice and corn areas and are members of the Gemah Ripah farmer group consisting of 30 farmers. From the results of dedication program, there are around 3000 hectares of rice and corn fields that have become a rice barn for the last 15 years, especially in Langkat Regency. Based on the results of the survey and partner interviews, several priority problems were obtained, including: a. There was a decrease in the selling price of corn in Langkat by Rp. 1,900,-/Kg from the selling price of corn in 2019 of Rp. 4,900,-/Kg to Rp. 3,000,-/Kg currently in Langkat; b. Rice farmers experienced a decrease in purchasing power of chemical compost during the Pandemic, because the price of solid organic compost from the Probiodek brand that functions as a decomposer of organic matter rose to Rp. 40,000,-/Kg; c. Farmers experienced a decline in purchasing power of chemical insecticides on the market; d. Farmers in Langkat currently do not have a knapsacksprayer and they only use 2 units of knapsacksprayer from government assistance to spray plant pests & diseases and this tool is used interchangeably for all farmer groups; e. Farming management is carried out in a simple and conventional way, namely using local F1 seeds (yield) from the previous corn harvest); f. Rice harvesting as well as shelling corn use a simple method of rice mill machine. In order to develop the potential of rice and corn barns, it is necessary to strengthen the independence of farmers through community dedication program (PKM) training in the production of liquid organic fertilizer using microorganism Bacillus cereus from Ristekdikti. The focus is to develop production of liquid organic fertilizer as an alternative to chemical fertilizers and chemical insecticides. The use of microorganisms Bacillus cereus is especially useful for facilitating the decomposition of organic matter in liquid fertilizer solutions so that it is more easily absorbed by plants as fertilizer and insecticide, as well as assisting and motivating partners to continuously continue producing liquid organic fertilizers because it saves costs in purchasing chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the future so as to create economic independence for partners. This will certainly improve the economy of farmer group partners so that life can be more prosperous. All of these activities aim to foster independence in partners when the program ends. It is hoped that food self-sufficiency can be realized that is free from residues of chemical fertilizers and insecticides so that environmentally sustainable agriculture can be realized.

Abstract

This service activity aims to increase the basicity of youth and increase creativity in protecting the environment. The method of implementing youth service activities to form characters who care about the surrounding environment and support the field of creativity in Tebing Tanjung Selamat Village, Kec. Tualang Field. The program requires physical and mental readiness, as well as knowledge and skill readiness. With this service activity, the relationship between higher education institutions as a source of knowledge and the community is getting better so that handling in various fields of development will be integrated.

Abstract

In Hatinggian Village, precisely in Lumban Julu District, Toba District, there is an action to care for the environment that is worthy of respect. The local communities in the village have made extraordinary efforts to preserve and sustain the surrounding environment. Through the implementation of the community self-serving activities of the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra in the village of Hatinggian, Lumban Julu district, Toba District, North Sumatera Province, which was carried out from August 25 to September 3, 2022, through interviews and field observations, it can be concluded that the activities are running well and smoothly. Through this community service activity, students participating in community service have the opportunity to implement the knowledge acquired during the lecture, then gain valuable insights and experiences from the community, such as training themselves to be responsible, having a sense of sympathy and empathy, and learning independently to find innovations and solutions to solving an existing problem.

Abstract

Aisyiyah ialah salah satu organisasi perempuan Muslim terbesar di Indonesia. Dengan mengambil hal yang sesuai, rata-rata ibu-ibu yang mengikuti Aisyiyah adalah ibu rumah tangga. Dengan menggunakan sistem semai dan juga menggunakan pupuk organik cair, mampu membuat seluruh warga yang ikut dapat memahaminya dengan mudah. Metode yang dilakukan ialah dengan langsung terjun ke lapangan untuk memberikan pengarahan secara lansgung kepada warga yang datang. Memberikan penjelasan detail bagaimana cara melakukan sistem semai kangkung darat dengan mudah. Hasil yang didapat ialah dengan memberikan eduikasi cara penyemaian yang sesuai dan kapan benih bisa ditanam di tanah secara langsung, sebelum itu direndam dahulu dengan menggunakan pupuk organik cair merek Basill Nigr. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penyuluhan secara langsung seperti ini dapat dilakukan dengan semaksimal mungkin untuk membuat para warga mampu memahami dan juga bertanya secara langsung apabila ada hal yang tidak dapat dipahami.

Abstract

Agrowisata, kombinasi dari pertanian dan pariwisata, berperan penting dalam meningkatkan pendapatan dan kesejahteraan masyarakat pedesaan melalui pemanfaatan sektor pertanian sebagai objek wisata. Di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, terdapat berbagai spot agrowisata menarik, seperti agrowisata Salak Pondoh di Sleman, yang menawarkan berbagai fasilitas dan kegiatan rekreasi. Desa Polengan dan Desa Kembangarum juga menunjukkan potensi besar dalam pengembangan desa wisata berbasis pertanian dan potensi alam. Namun, tantangan seperti daya tarik yang kurang dan kondisi yang kurang terawat menghambat pertumbuhan agrowisata. Oleh karena itu, strategi pengembangan yang melibatkan masyarakat dan optimalisasi sumber daya lingkungan sangat penting. Selain itu, penggunaan metode pemrograman linier dapat membantu mengoptimalkan produksi dan profitabilitas usaha pertanian. Pandemi COVID-19 telah menguji ketahanan ekonomi, namun modal sosial menjadi kunci untuk mengatasi tantangan ini dan mendorong pertumbuhan ekonomi. Contoh sukses adalah Desa Pujon Kidul di Malang yang telah meningkatkan PADes melalui pariwisata desa. Upaya konservasi lingkungan, pengelolaan sampah yang cerdas, dan teknologi pertanian modern juga menjadi faktor penting dalam pengembangan agrowisata yang berkelanjutan. Desa Kutambaru di Sumatera Utara menunjukkan bahwa pemberdayaan masyarakat dan kerjasama dengan berbagai pihak dapat menciptakan desa eco agro tourism yang menarik wisatawan dan memberikan manfaat jangka panjang bagi masyarakat.

Abstract

Konservasi sumber daya tanah adalah perlindungan sumber daya alam tanah. Hal ini dicapai dengan menghilangkan atau mengurangi dampak manusia terhadap lingkungan alam, pemanenan sumber daya lahan yang bertanggung jawab, serta upaya konservasi yang bertujuan untuk membalikkan kerusakan manusia terhadap sumber daya lahan. Konservasi dan pelestarian lingkungan menawarkan dua pendekatan tentang bagaimana mengelola lahan publik secara bertanggung jawab. Pengabdian Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melakukan penanaman akar wangi (Vetiveria zizanioides) di taman edukasi dan konservasi sumber daya lahan Lembah Juhar, Kabupaten Langkat, Sumatera Utara. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan berupa penanaman 200 bibit tanaman akar wangi yang dilakukan di taman edukasi dan konservasi sumber daya lahan Lembah Juhar, Kabupaten Langkat bersama dengan beberapa praktisi dan akademisi dari berbagai institusi di daerah Sumatera Utara dalam rangka Hari Air Sedunia, selain itu pengabdian masyarakat ini juga memberikan sosialisasi mengenai tanaman akar wangi kepada masyarakat sekitar lahan Lembah Juhar, Kabupaten Langkat mengenai pentingnya konservasi dan pelestarian lingkungan yang sekaligus dapat memberikan manfaat kepada masyarakat sebagai taman edukasi.
