Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) oleh Kelompok Bidang Keahlian (KBK) Telekomunikasi, Departemen Teknik Elektro, Fakultas Teknik Universitas Andalas dilaksanakan dengan tujuan mendukung peningkatan kualitas syiar Islam melalui pemanfaatan teknologi multimedia di Mushalla Al-Mahira, Kelurahan Aie Pacah. Program yang dilaksanakan pada 22 November 2025 ini berfokus pada penyediaan dan pengenalan perangkat teknologi, terutama sistem audio dan multimedia, sebagai sarana pendukung dakwah yang lebih efektif dan menarik. Kegiatan dipimpin oleh Baharuddin, MT, dengan dukungan Ketua Program Studi Teknik Elektro, Dr. Eng. Primas Emiraldi, serta partisipasi dosen KBK Telekomunikasi lainnya. Tim PkM memberikan perangkat sound system serta satu unit vacuum cleaner sebagai upaya peningkatan fasilitas mushalla, sekaligus memberikan pelatihan penggunaan perangkat agar dapat dimanfaatkan secara optimal. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknologi multimedia mampu meningkatkan kualitas penyampaian materi dakwah, memperbaiki kenyamanan jamaah, dan memperkuat kapasitas pengurus mushalla dalam pengelolaan sarana ibadah. Program ini menegaskan peran penting perguruan tinggi dalam transfer teknologi kepada masyarakat sebagai bagian dari pelaksanaan tridarma akademik.

Abstract

This study details the design and experimental evaluation of an off-grid photovoltaic (PV) system equipped with an automatic solar panel cleaning mechanism to address performance degradation due to dust accumulation. The system integrates a mechanical wiper-based cleaning unit, solar charge controller (SCC), inverter, and low-voltage disconnect (LVD) to maintain reliable and stable operation in stand-alone settings. Experimental tests were performed on a 50 Wp PV module under actual outdoor conditions in Padang, Indonesia. System performance was assessed before and after panel cleaning using key electrical parameters, such as output voltage, current, output power, and relative efficiency improvement. Results show that the automatic cleaning mechanism increased the average PV output power from 0.88 W to 1.71 W, representing an efficiency improvement of approximately 11.89% compared to the uncleaned state. In contrast to previous studies that focus on grid-connected systems or manual cleaning methods, this research introduces a low-cost, self-operating cleaning solution tailored for small-scale off-grid PV applications in tropical environments. The proposed system offers practical benefits for enhancing energy yield, system reliability, and maintenance efficiency in remote solar installations.

Abstract

Microstrip antennas are widely used in sensing applications according to compact, low-cost, and easy to fabricate. This study presents the design and evaluation of a 2.4 GHz circular patch microstrip antenna integrated with a split-ring resonator (SRR) for sensing sugar-solution concentration through dielectric property induced perturbations. The antenna employs an inset feed configuration and is implemented on an FR4 substrate. The design and parametric analysis are carried out in simulation by placing sugar solutions with mole fractions from 0 to 0.04 in the sensing region. In result, we observe changes in resonant frequency, minimum return loss, and quality factor (Q). The simulations indicate monotonic trends with concentration, with the minimum return loss becoming less negative as concentration increases, accompanied by reductions in resonant frequency and Q. Experimental measurements of the fabricated prototype, however, show weaker and less consistent correlations across the same parameters, highlighting the sensitivity of the response to practical factors such as sample positioning, fabrication tolerances, and measurement repeatability

Abstract

Real-time environmental monitoring is an important requirement for managing facilities, laboratories, server rooms, and work environments that require temperature and humidity control. This study aims to develop and evaluate the performance of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based environmental monitoring system using ESP32 microcontrollers, DHT11 sensors, the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, Node-RED, and a MySQL database. The system is designed to acquire temperature and humidity data, transmit data via Wi-Fi using MQTT, display real-time measurement results on the Node-RED dashboard, and store historical data into a MySQL database. Testing was carried out with a data transmission interval of every 5 seconds using MQTT QoS 0. The test results showed that the system was capable of continuous monitoring, with a measured temperature range of 27.1–28.5 °C and a relative humidity range of 44–51% RH. Sensor data was successfully transmitted, visualized, and stored in real-time without any loss of observed data during the test period. The Node-RED dashboard can display information as gauges, trend graphs, and historical tables, facilitating the monitoring and analysis of environmental data. The integration of ESP32, MQTT, Node-RED, and MySQL produces a stable, low-cost, easy-to-develop monitoring system with potential for implementation in various IoT-based environmental monitoring applications. The results of the study indicate that the proposed architecture can provide a reliable environmental monitoring solution and support real-time, data-driven decision-making.

Abstract

Kabupaten Pasaman merupakan daerah penghasil kakao (Theobroma cacao) terbesar di Sumatera Barat mulai dari tahun 2017. Produksi kakao di Sumatera Barat mencapai 66.917 ton dengan luas tanam 145.735 hektare. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, daerah Kabupaten Pasaman memimpin dengan jumlah produksi sebanyak 17.558 ton dari luas tanam 26.273 hektare. Hasil produksi kakao di Kabupaten Pasaman saat sekarang ini sedang mengalami ketidakstabilan dan kualitas uji kakao yang dihasilkan kurag baik. Penurunan kualitas biji kakao yang di produksi bisa disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor. Salah satunya adalah rangkaian proses produksi yang dilalui untuk proses pemecahan masih manual. Selain permasalahan kualitas biji kakao, pemasaran juga membutuhkan perhatian khusus. Berdasarkan permasalahan yang terjadi, dibutuhkan suatu usaha dan teknologi yang mampu meningkatkan hasil produksi kakao, sehingga kondisi ekonomi masyarakat khususnya petani kakao dapat meningkat. Kegiatan yang diusulkan berupa pemberian bantuan alat pertanian serta, penyuluhan tentang pentingnya pemasaran untuk meningkatkan jumlah penjualan biji kakao. Proses pembinaan dilakukan bersama kelompok tani kakao Kabupaten Pasaman dan akan dilakukan pendataan serta pengontrolan. Data yang didapatkan akan digunakan oleh pihak pemerintahan Kabupaten Pasaman serta peneliti di Universitas Andalas dalam mengambil tindakan. Manfaat dari kegiatan ini adalah membantu pelaku usaha, khususnya petani kakao dalam meningkatkan kualitas produksi kakao yang dihasilkan dan meningkatkan jumlah penjualan biji kakao di Kabupaten Pasaman.

Abstract

The development of flying robot technology or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) requires innovations in materials that are lightweight, strong, and environmentally friendly. This study aims to design and manufacture flying robot propellers using composite materials with an epoxy resin matrix reinforced with natural fibers from snake plants (Sansevieria trifasciata). Sansevieria trifasciata fibers were chosen for their potential as an alternative material with good specific strength, abundant availability, and light weight. The propeller was manufactured using the hand lay-up method, followed by mechanical testing to determine the characteristics of the composite material, including tensile and impact tests. In addition, functional testing was conducted to measure the performance of the propeller in generating thrust. The results of the study show that Sansevieria trifasciata fiber composites have sufficient mechanical properties to be used as propeller materials for small-scale UAVs. The thrust performance produced is comparable to that of similar commercial propellers, indicating that natural fibers can replace conventional synthetic fiber-based materials and support more sustainable technological advances.

Abstract

Community activities aim to design and implement an automatic etching machine using a microcontroller and servo motor. The microcontroller acts as the control unit, regulating the movement of the servo motor to ensure the etching process runs with maximum efficiency. The method used in this activity is divided into several structured stages. The first stage is design, where the device is designed using a microcontroller to control the servo motor responsible for moving the PCB undergoing the etching process. The second stage is implementation, where the components to be used include the microcontroller, servo motor, LCD, buttons, and etching container. The final stage is evaluation, where the created device is assessed based on the suitability of the motor movements produced according to the main objective, which is to produce tracks as desired by the operator. The results of implementing this automatic etching machine activity are expected to provide several key benefits. Firstly, the machine can reduce the time required to complete the PCB etching process, thereby increasing productivity in PCB printing services. Additionally, by reducing human involvement in the monotonous physical process, this machine helps avoid human errors and thus can improve the quality of the products produced. In conclusion, it is hoped that the PCB printing service industry can take a step forward in adopting automation technology that can enhance production efficiency and product quality.

Abstract

The purpose of this activity is to design and develop an automatic young coconut peeling tool to improve production efficiency and the selling value of young coconut water-based beverage products. Young coconut products contain high nutritional value, such as water, carbohydrates, vitamins B and C, as well as essential minerals, making them a natural health drink with a broad market potential. However, in Padang City, the quality of packaging and the appearance of young coconut products are still considered low, which impacts their selling price. The methods used in this activity include the design phase of a tool based on a mechanical system with an electric motor, development of an automatic cutting mechanism from three sides (top, side, and bottom), as well as the integration of hot stamp technology for direct brand printing on the coconut surface. The prototype was tested to measure cutting precision, work efficiency, and the visual appeal of the final product. The results show that the tool is capable of producing young coconuts shaped like uniform, visually appealing white diamonds. In addition to improving production efficiency, the hot stamp technology also successfully strengthens the product’s brand identity. In conclusion, this automatic young coconut peeling tool provides an innovative solution for MSME actors to enhance product quality, added value, and competitiveness. This innovation also opens new market opportunities and contributes to strengthening the local economy based on superior tropical commodities.

Abstract

Nagari Sikabu, located in Padang Pariaman Regency, is an agrarian area with strong potential in corn production as its leading agricultural commodity. However, the utilization of corn has largely been limited to sales in raw form, resulting in relatively low economic value for the local community. This condition indicates a gap between abundant natural resources and the community’s capacity to transform them into value added products. Therefore, this community service program was designed to empower local residents through a sustainable business incubation model for corn based products using a participatory approach. The methods applied included field observations, participatory interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and SWOT analysis to map the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in developing processed corn products. The results identified that derivative products such as corn chips, corn emping, and corn brownies have strong prospects to become local flagship products. Training sessions and workshops successfully improved community skills by 42%, particularly in food processing techniques, packaging, pricing, and digital marketing. Furthermore, the program facilitated the establishment of a Community Business Group (Kelompok Usaha Bersama/KUB) as an institutional platform for collective business development and local economic strengthening. In conclusion, the corn based business incubation program proved effective in enhancing community capacity, strengthening business institutions, and opening new entrepreneurial opportunities in Nagari Sikabu. For sustainability, continuous assistance is required in product legalization, innovative packaging technology, and integration with digital marketing channels so that processed corn products can penetrate wider markets and contribute to local economic independence.
