Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively evaluate the impact of using Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) on students’ Arabic language proficiency through a meta-analytic approach. Eleven studies (k = 11) that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using a random-effects model to account for variation across studies. The meta-analysis results indicate that CALL has a significant positive effect on students’ Arabic language skills, with an effect size (d) of 1.23 and a significance level of p < 0.01, classified as a large effect. However, the high level of heterogeneity (I² > 75%) suggests substantial variation among the studies. Therefore, future research is recommended to analyze potential moderator variables such as intervention duration, educational level, types of language skills, and types of technology used, in order to better understand the factors that influence the effectiveness of CALL.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of e-module use on students' critical thinking skills through a meta-analysis approach. Meta-analysis is used to integrate the results of various empirical studies published in the last five years, which specifically evaluate the effectiveness of e-modules in learning. A total of twelve studies with experimental or quasi-experimental designs were analyzed to calculate the combined effect size and test for heterogeneity between studies. The results of the analysis show that the use of e-modules has a significant impact on improving students' critical thinking skills with a combined effect size value of 0.80, which is included in the high category. This finding confirms that e-modules are an effective learning medium in fostering critical thinking skills through an interactive, independent, and contextual approach. The results of this study provide important contributions to the development of digital learning policies and the implementation of e-modules in the 21st century education system.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize empirical findings on the impact of self-confidence on students' communication skills through a meta-analytic approach. A total of twelve studies published within the last five years were analyzed using a random effects model. The results showed that self-confidence has a significant impact on students' communication skills, with a combined effect size of 0.72 and a standard error of 0.028. This finding falls into the high-effect category. However, the high heterogeneity across studies (I² = 89%) indicates substantial contextual variation. These results provide strong evidence that self-confidence is a critical internal factor that should be nurtured to enhance students’ communication skills effectively. The findings also offer a scientific foundation for developing learning strategies and educational interventions that focus more on strengthening students’ psychological readiness.

Abstract

Abstract

Flipped Learning in Foreign Language Learning in Higher Education: Analysis of Effectiveness and Moderator Variables. Many studies have reported that the flipped learning strategies has a significant effect on students' foreign language skills in college compared to traditional learning strategies. However, reports regarding the effectiveness of flipped learning strategies in foreign language learning are very heterogeneous. Objectives: Based on this empirical gap, this study aims to synthesize the application of flipped learning strategies in students' foreign language learning in higher education compared to traditional learning strategies. Method: This study uses the meta-analysis method to answer the objectives of this study. Findings: The results of the analysis of twelve research samples with a random-effect estimation model show that the use of the flipped learning strategies has a more significant effect on students' foreign language skills in college when compared to traditional strategies, with the combined effect size value being in the large effect category (g = 0.89; p < 0.05). In addition, the results of the moderator factor analysis show that the variables of flipped learning class capacity, ability type, and foreign language type significantly affect the effectiveness of the use of the flipped learning strategies to students' diverse foreign language skills. Conclusion: These reports provide strong evidence as recommendations for educators, researchers and educational policy makers regarding the application of flipped learning strategies in foreign language learning in higher education. Regardless of the validity of the results, this study only involved a few research samples. Further research is recommended to combine more samples, or focus on the type of abilities measured, so that it can provide more specific conclusions. Keywords: effect size, foreign language, flipped learning, meta-analysis, moderator variable.
