Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of hydrocarbon chemicals in the Merdeka curriculum and curriculum 13, as well as explore variations of hydrocarbon materials taught by teachers in various schools under the Merdeka Curriculum. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative through survey methods. Respondents in this study involved 24 chemistry teachers who worked in DKI Jakarta and Yogyakarta. The selection of respondents was random. The results of this study show that there are differences in the characteristics of hydrocarbon materials taught in the 2013 curriculum and the Merdeka curriculum. In the Merdeka curriculum, most chemistry teachers still do not differ much from each other even though they have been given freedom in teaching, with only slight variations in the selection of the material. Teachers consider materials in hydrocarbon topics very important and must be taught thoroughly because they will be useful in learning the next topic. In making decisions to teach hydrocarbon material, teachers should increase their understanding of learning objectives, student heterogeneity, limited reference sources, school facilities, and students' initial knowledge.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze the use of teaching methods and learning media used by chemistry teachers in teaching organic chemistry materials, especially the topic of Hydrocarbons in High School. The research method used is quantitative descriptive research, where to collect data using research instruments in the form of questionnaires distributed using google form to respondents. The respondents were high school chemistry teachers in the Jakarta area who were randomly selected as many as 22 teachers. The results of the analysis show that the teaching method most widely used by teachers on the topic of Hydrocarbons is group discussion which is 20.20% While the learning media most widely used by teachers is molymod media by 23.29% and IT-based learning media by 20.55%. For the utilization of IT / digital media on hydrocarbon material, more use of Ms.Power Point / Prezi / Canva by 34.48% and animated videos by 29.31%. By using learning methods and media used by teachers on the topic of hydrocarbons, it can help students' level of understanding in the range of 60-80 by 64% and more than 80 by 32%.

Abstract

Chemistry is often regarded as an unpopular subject among students, primarily because its learning process often disregards its relevance to students' everyday lives. Integrating socio-scientific issues (SSI) into chemistry education can bridge this gap by connecting chemistry concepts to students' real-life social experiences. Socio-scientific issues are socially relevant problems grounded in science that are inherently complex due to their intersection with multiple social factors, societal impacts, and the ethical dilemmas they often present. This study aims to explore the relationship between SSI-based chemistry learning, the relevance of chemistry education, students' social lives, and its benefits for students' learning. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review approach by analyzing 15 relevant articles retrieved from the ERIC and Scopus databases, selected based on established criteria and published within the last eight years. The findings from the reviewed literature indicate that incorporating SSI into chemistry education can enhance students' interest and motivation, improve their critical thinking and argumentation skills, and support their decision-making abilities.        Keywords: socioscientific issues, chemistry learning, and relevance model.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i4.pp1880-1892

Abstract

This study aims to develop a student worksheet (LKPD) based on the learning cycle 5E models. The research utilizes the 4D development model by Thiagarajan, which consists of four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Dissemination. The sample in this study was chemistry teachers and students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngawi. The results of the validation by media and material experts indicate that the LKPD learning cycle 5E is suitable for use in learning. Readability tests conducted by students and teachers show that the LKPD learning cycle 5E falls into the "very good" category. The results of the effectiveness test, using a Mann-Whitney U test, indicate that the LKPD learning cycle 5E has a very small effect on student chemistry literacy in solubility product constant materials.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability and learning motivation are essential in chemistry learning, yet often overlooked in conventional instruction. This study investigates the effects of problem-based learning (PBL) versus discovery learning on students’ problem-solving ability and motivation, while also examining the influence of learning styles. Using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, XI MIPA students at SMA Negeri 9 Bengkulu City were assigned to either a PBL or discovery learning group. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and learning style inventories, and analyzed using MANOVA. Results indicated no significant difference between the two models in improving problem-solving ability or motivation. However, learning styles significantly affected both outcomes, with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners performing differently. PBL contributed modestly to both variables (2.4% for problem-solving, 0.4% for motivation), and no interaction effect with learning styles was found. These findings highlight the need to align teaching strategies with students' learning styles to support more effective learning. The study offers practical implications for fostering adaptive instruction in chemistry classrooms and enhancing scientific literacy.
