Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of storybook-based Shared Reading leaming approach on reading interest and Indonesian language learning outcomes in fifth grade elementary school students, Makassar District. This research was a quantitative research using quasi-experimental method. This study deployed a non-equivalent control group design. Data collechon techniques in this study were through observation, questionnaires and tests. The population in this study were all fifth grade elementary school students in the Makassar district. The samples in this study were MIM 11 Bara-Baraya as many as 33 students as the experimental class and MIM B Maccini 30 students as the control class The data analysis technique used was the independent sample t-test and the multivariate analysis of variance, which had previously been tested for prerequisites, namely normality and homogeneity. The results of this study indicated that reading interest and Indonesian language learning outcomes which being given treatment in the form of the application of a shared reading approach compared to students who did not The storybook-based shared reading learning approach was said to bo influential because it increased reading interest and Indonesian language learning outcomes Based on the results of the independent sample t-test on hypothesis 1, the sig value was obtained of 0.003 0.05, it can be stated that H0 is rejected and Ht is accepted, in hypothesis II the sig value is obtained of 0.00 -0.05, it can be stated that HO is rejected and H1 is accepted And the results of the Manova test, obtained the value of sig 0.00<0.05, it can be stated that HO is rejected and H1 is accepted. because the significance value is less than 0.05. Based on this, it can be stated that the storybook-based shared reading learning approach impacted on reading interest and Indonesian language learning outcomes at the fifth graders elementary school students in Makassar.

Abstract

Speech acts of sellers and buyers in traditional markets in Soppeng Regency. This study aims to describe and determine how speech acts are performed by sellers and buyers in traditional markets in Soppeng Regency. This study is descriptive qualitative in nature. Data collection techniques were carried out in three ways, namely recording, observing and noting. This study was conducted using qualitative research methods with triangulation as the data collection technique. The data relevant to this study included data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The findings of this study were that there were three forms of directive illocutionary acts and one form of commissive illocutionary act. Based on the analysed data, a description was obtained covering directive acts of questioning, directive acts of commanding, and directive acts of granting permission. Meanwhile, the commissive illocutionary acts in the traditional market of Soppeng Regency include the commissive act of offering and the commissive act of promising.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan Kemampuan Menyimpulkan Isi Cerita melalui Media Buku Cerita Bergambar Siswa Kelas IV SD Inpres Macciniayo. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas IV SD Inpres Macciniayo sebanyak 8 peserta didik. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimanakah hasil Analisis Kemampuan Menyimpulkan Isi Cerita melalui Media Buku Cerita Bergambar Kelas IV SD Inpres Macciniayo. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif jenis pendekatan deskriptif yang digunakan untuk menggali data secaara mendalam. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi yang kemudian dianalisis secara komprehensif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil dari penggunaan media buku cerita bergambar sangat efisien dalam menyimpulkan isi cerita pada kelas IV, media buku cerita bergambar membantu siswa mengaitkan teks dengan visual, dan membantu siswa memahami alur cerita, mengidentifikasi tokoh dan menangkap pesan moral dengan baik.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the application of Canva and Powtoon interactive media on the ability to write short stories for grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 7 Bulukumba. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi experiment design in the form of a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class that was treated using the interactive media Canva and Powtoon and the control class that used conventional learning methods. The data collection technique was carried out through a short story writing test in the form of a pretest and posttest. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical tests with t-tests. The results showed that the significance value of the posttest t-test was 0.000 < 0.05, which means that there was a significant difference between the ability to write short stories for students in the experimental class and the control class. The average posttest score of the experimental class was 85.40 higher than the control class of 74.10. These findings show that the application of Canva and Powtoon interactive media is effective in improving students' short story writing skills. Therefore, Canva and Powtoon interactive media are recommended as alternative learning media in learning to write short stories at the junior high school level.

Abstract

The patriarchal view that has taken root in society is difficult to remove. Gender bias still occurs in various forms and situations, even though it is not realized. This study aims to determine the gender representation and bias in the thematic books of fourth graders of elementary school curriculum 2013 through quantitative descriptive content analysis. This study analyzes the frequency of representation and gender bias in fourth-grade thematic books. The sample in this study was the thematic book for fourth-grade students in the 2013 curriculum, theme 1 to theme 5. The data analysis technique in this study refers to the content analysis scheme according to Kripendorf with stages (1) unitizing (data collection); (2) sampling (sampling); (3) recording (recording/recording); (4) reducing (data reduction); (5) inferring (concluding); (6) narrating (narrative). The analysis results show that (1) gender representation in the fourth-grade thematic books is dominant to boys; (2) there is a gender bias in students' thematic books, which include gender bias on work roles, character values, social status, and hobbies.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the complexity of language use in digital interactions, particularly on social media, where variations of meaning, politeness strategies, and pragmatic failures frequently occur. The main problem addressed in this study concerns how speech act and politeness strategies are employed in social media conversations and how context influences meaning interpretation in digital interaction. This study aims to identify types of speech acts, describe politeness and impoliteness strategies, and explain the role of context in constructing meaning in social media discourse. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a pragmatic perspective. The data consist of 120 utterances collected from Instagram and Twitter/X through documentation and non-participant observation techniques conducted from January to March 2025. Data analysis was carried out through speech act identification, politeness strategy analysis, contextual interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that directive speech acts are the most dominant with 46 data (38.3%), followed by expressive speech acts with 34 data (28.3%) and representative speech acts with 25 data (20.8%). The politeness strategies identified include both positive and negative politeness, as well as the use of multimodal elements such as emojis to reinforce pragmatic meaning and reduce threats to the interlocutor’s face. In addition, impoliteness strategies were also found to function as expressions of emotion, criticism, and group solidarity. The study further indicates that limited contextual cues and the absence of nonverbal signals in digital communication may lead to pragmatic failure, including both pragmalinguistic failure and sociopragmatic failure. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of pragmatic competence in achieving effective, polite, and contextual communication in the digital era. Abstrak Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kompleksitas penggunaan bahasa dalam interaksi digital, khususnya pada media sosial yang memungkinkan terjadinya variasi makna, strategi kesantunan, dan kegagalan pragmatik. Permasalahan utama dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana strategi tindak tutur dan kesantunan digunakan dalam percakapan media sosial serta bagaimana konteks memengaruhi interpretasi makna dalam interaksi digital. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis tindak tutur, mendeskripsikan strategi kesantunan dan ketidaksantunan, serta menjelaskan peran konteks dalam membentuk makna ujaran di media sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan perspektif pragmatik. Data berupa 120 tuturan yang diperoleh dari Instagram dan Twitter/X melalui teknik dokumentasi dan observasi non-partisipatif selama Januari–Maret 2025. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahap identifikasi tindak tutur, analisis strategi kesantunan, interpretasi konteks, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tindak tutur yang dominan adalah direktif sebanyak 46 data (38,3%), ekspresif sebanyak 34 data (28,3%), dan representatif sebanyak 25 data (20,8%). Strategi kesantunan yang ditemukan meliputi kesantunan positif dan negatif, serta penggunaan unsur multimodal seperti emoji untuk memperkuat makna pragmatik dan mengurangi ancaman terhadap face mitra tutur. Selain itu, ditemukan pula strategi ketidaksantunan (impoliteness) yang berfungsi sebagai ekspresi emosi, kritik, dan solidaritas kelompok. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa keterbatasan konteks dan minimnya isyarat nonverbal dalam komunikasi digital dapat menyebabkan kegagalan pragmatik, baik dalam bentuk pragmalinguistic failure maupun sociopragmatic failure. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya kompetensi pragmatik dalam membangun komunikasi yang efektif, santun, dan kontekstual di era digital.
