Abstract

SYAM, N., CHIKMAWATI, T. & RUSTIAMI, H. 2016. A phenetic study of the Calamus flabellatus complex (Palmae) in West Malesia. Reinwardtia 15(1): 27 - 41. — The number of species within the Calamus flabellatus  complex is still under controversy because the taxonomic status of the species is not yet clear. Morphological observations were conducted on 119 collections of Calamus in the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO) and specimen images from the  Singapore Herbarium (SING) and Kew Herbarium (K). The results showed that C. flabellatus complex (all species related to C. flabellatus)  in West Malesia  consisted of eight  species and two varieties, i.e. C. acuminatus, C. amplijugus, C. congestiflorus, C. corrugatus, C. flabellatus, C. hypertrichosus, C. javensis, and C. ruvidus. They can be distinguished using several characters, i.e. leaf sheath, knee, ocrea, leaves, inflorescence, shape of fruit, number scale of fruit and seed. Calamus flabellatus var. laevibus and C. flabellatus var. congestispinosus are two new proposed varieties. Phenetic analysis of C. flabellatus complex in West Malesia divided all species into two major clusters with similarity coefficient of 46%.

Abstract

Two new varieties of Begonia hooveriana Wiriad. from Sulawesi are described here, namely Begonia hooveriana var. rubescens Alvitasari and Begonia hooveriana var. sepangensis Alvitasari. They are distinguished based on several morphological characters: base, shape, and size of male flower tepals; peduncle length of female inflorescence; peduncle length, shape, and apex of fruits. A description of two new varieties, identification keys and its distributions are provided here.

PRATAMI, M. P., CHIKMAWATI, T. & RUGAYAH. 2022. A new species of Mukia (Cucurbitaceae) from Sumba Island, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 21(1): 35‒40. — Mukia sumbensis Pratami is described and illustrated as well as compared with its closely related species M. maderaspatana (L.) M.Roem. and M. leiosperma (Wight & Arn.) Wight. It differs in its tendril size, stem diameter, petiole hairiness, midrib indumentum on upper leaf surface, as well as in shape, margin, and surface of seed. Anatomically the leaf of the new species has two palisade layers, unlike the other two species which have only one layer.

Abstract

New cytotypes of Pteris ensiformis var. victoriae and one cytotype of var. ensiformis are recorded from Indonesia: var. victoriae with 2n=58 (sexual diploid) from Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, and 2n=87 (triploid) from Lombok Island and Bogor, West Java; and var. ensiformis with 2n=116 (sexual tetraploid). The diploid is smaller than the triploid in plant size. Results indicate a cytological variation in var. victoriae, like in var. ensiformis.

Abstract

The name of Gigantochloa taluh Widjaja & Astuti (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) was invalid because of failure to meet the requirements of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants, that there was no herbarium location of type specimens was mentioned. A typification was provided here to address this issue.

Abstract

Since a large number of characters are now known for Freycinetia Gaudich. and Pandanus Parkinson species, it appears useful to consider their use in identifying plants from Java. Fieldwork carried out for this study has provided stronger foundation for understanding morphological variation within the species. This study was undertaken to have a better understanding on the morphology of the family in order to make a better species delimitation. Characters of habit, stem, leaves, auricles, bracts, peduncle and pedicel, inflorescence, staminate flowers (male), pistillate flowers (female), cephalia and berries were found useful in delimitation and identification of Javanese Freycinetia, while characters of habit, stem, prop root, marginal spine, leaves, bracts, inflorescentia, peduncle, staminate flowers (male), pistillate flowers (female), cephalia, drupes were found to be useful for distinguishing among species of Javanese Pandanus.
