Abstract

This study was aimed to assess nutritional knowledge, health complaints, psychological conditions, and their association with breastfeeding pattern on postpartum mother. A cross sectional study with interview method was conducted in five villages in Dramaga Subdistrict, Bogor District, during the period of April to May 2013. Subjects included in this study were 30 postpartum mothers who met inclusion criteria. Subjects were mothers of 10—40 days old newborn baby and it was not the first childbirth, willing to be subject through informed consent agreement, and was able to communicate. The majority of postpartum mothers had fair nutritional knowledge (60.0%), low health complaints (66.7%), and depression (56.7%). The nutritional knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding tended to correlate with exclusive breastfeeding practice (r=0.126; p=0.508). Meanwhile, lower health complaints tended to correlate with better breastfeeding practices (r=0.063; p=0.74).

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aim of the study was to analyze the effects of torbangun flour-based functional supplementary food for breastfeeding mothers who received breastfeeding counseling on infant’s growth and exclusive breastfeeding practice The subjects were 20 pregnant women in their third trimester and were monitored until delivery and were given supplementary food for 30 days. Single blind randomized controlled trial was used to group subjects into intervention group (n=10) that was given supplementary food containing torbangun flour, and control group (n=10) with no torbangun flour. All subjects were given breastfeeding counseling two times before delivery and three times during supplementary food was given. The study showed that breastfeeding counseling significantly increased the knowledge and attitude of respondents on exclusive breastfeeding. In the intervention group, the average score of knowledge increased from 59.1±22.4 to 94.1±6.9 (p<0.05), while the attitude increased from 65.8±11.4 to 94.1±8.8 (p<0.05). In control group, the average score of knowledge increased from 75.0±11.8 to 94.4±7.2 (p<0.05), while the attitude increased from 75.0±14.4 to 94.4±11.0 (p<0.05). Supplementary food containing torbangun flour significantly caused shorter time in regaining infant’s birth weight. The average time was 5.1±1.4 days for intervention group, while the control group was 7.0±2.4 days (p<0.05). The success rate of exclusive breastfeeding practice in the intervention group was 90%, while in the control group was 80%.Keywords: exclusive breastfeeding, supplementary food, torbangunABSTRAKTujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis pengaruh pemberian makanan tambahan fungsional berbasis tepung torbangun pada ibu yang mendapat konseling menyusui terhadap pertumbuhan bayi dan pemberian ASI eksklusif. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 orang ibu hamil pada trimester ketiga yang diikuti hingga melahirkan dan diberikan makanan tambahan selama 30 hari. Desain single blind randomized controlled trial digunakan untuk menentukan produk makanan tambahan yang diberikan kepada ibu yaitu kelompok intervensi (n=10) mendapat produk yang mengandung tepung torbangun dan kelompok kontrol (n=10) mendapat produk tanpa tepung torbangun. Seluruh subjek diberikan konseling menyusui dengan frekuensi dua kali sebelum ibu melahirkan dan tiga kali selama pemberian makanan tambahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konseling menyusui signifikan meningkatkan skor pengetahuan dan sikap responden tentang ASI eksklusif. Kelompok intervensi, rata-rata skor pengetahuan dari 59,1±22,4 menjadi 94,1±6,9, skor sikap dari 65,8±11,4 menjadi 94,1±8,8 (p<0,05). Kelompok kontrol, rata-rata skor pengetahuan dari 75,0±11,8 menjadi 94,4±7,2, skor sikap dari 75,0±14,4 menjadi 94,4±11,0 (p<0,05). Pemberian makanan tambahan yang mengandung tepung torbangun berpengaruh signifikan terhadap waktu yang lebih singkat untuk mencapai kembali berat badan lahir bayi yaitu 5,1±1,4 hari untuk kelompok intervensi sedangkan kelompok kontrol 7,0±2,4 hari (p<0,05). Selama waktu pemberian makanan tambahan, keberhasilan praktek pemberian ASI eksklusif pada kelompok intervensi adalah 90% sedangkan kelompok kontrol adalah 80%.Kata kunci: ASI eksklusif, makanan tambahan, torbangun

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aimed to analyze preference and consumption frequency of street foods among elementary school children at Cijeruk sub-district, Bogor District. The design used as survey method at three elementary schools at the area, namely SDN 01 Palasari, SDN 02 Palasari, dan SDN 01 Cipicung. The data was collected in April until June 2012. The subjects of study were 80 students at 4th and 5th grade of elementary school, consisted of 40 boys and 40 girls. Data collection was done by observation and interview to students. The data collected were: family characteristics, individual characteristics, nutrition knowledge, preference and the reasons, and consumption frequency of the street foods. The results showed that family size of subjects mostly (65.5%) categorized as moderate (consisted of 4—6 persons). Both father’s and mother’s education level were categorized as low, namely graduated from elementary shools (42.5% each) and even ungraduated of elementary schools (31.3% and 23.8%). In general, family income per capita was categorized as poor (51.3%) and almost poor (40.0%), with average of Rp 183 063 which was lower than poverty line of West Java Province at sub-urban areas (Rp 210 000). The average of pocket money of subjects was Rp 2 293.7. Nutrition knowledge of subjects was generally categorized as moderate (47.5%). All of subjects stated that they like street foods. The order of street foods from high to low prefered by subjects was fruit, beverages, fried food, cakes, dried snack, and dish foods. The primary preference reason of subjects on street foods was taste (minimal 60% for each food group). The order of street foods which highly to rarely consumed per week was fried food (7.0 times), beverages (6.7 times), cakes (6.3 times), dish foods (6.2 times), salted-dried snacks (5.3 times), and fruits (5.0 times).Key words: consumption frequency, preference, reasons of preference, street foodABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis preferensi dan frekuensi makanan jajanan pada anak SD di Kecamatan Cijeruk, Kabupaten Bogor. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode survey, di tiga Sekolah Dasar di Kecamatan Cijeruk, Kabupaten Bogor, yaitu SDN 01 Palasari, SDN 02 Palasari, dan SDN 01 Cipicung. Pengambilan data dilakukan pada bulan April hingga Juni 2012. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas 4 dan kelas 5 SD, berjumlah 80 siswa, terdiri dari 40 siswa laki-laki dan 40 siswa perempuan. Penarikan subjek dilakukan secara purposive proposional dari populasi siswa di ketiga SD terpilih. Data dikumpulkan dengan cara pengamatan dan wawancara kepada siswa, terdiri dari karakteristik keluarga, karakteristik individu, pengetahuan gizi, preferensi dan alasannya, serta frekuensi konsumsi makanan jajanan. Besar keluarga subjek sebagian besar (65.5%) tergolong sedang (4—6 orang). Pendidikan ayah dan ibu subjek sebagian besar tamatan SD (42.5%) dan tidak tamat SD (31.3% dan 23.8%). Pendapatan keluarga per kapita subjek umumnya tergolong miskin (51.3%) dan 40.0% termasuk kategori hampir miskin. Rata-rata pendapatan keluarga per kapita adalah Rp 183 063, lebih rendah dari garis kemiskinan Jawa Barat pedesaan (Rp 210 000). Rata-rata uang jajan subjek adalah Rp 2 293.7. Pengetahuan gizi subjek umumnya (47.5%) berada pada kategori sedang. Urutan makanan jajanan yang paling disukai hingga agak disukai adalah buah, minuman, makanan gorengan, kue, keringan asin, dan jajanan sepinggan. Alasan utama subjek dalam menyukai semua kelompok makanan jajanan adalah rasa (minimal 60%). Urutan kelompok jajanan dengan frekuensi konsumsi dalam seminggu dari tertinggi hingga terendah adalah makanan digoreng (7.0 kali), minuman (6.7 kali), kue (6.3 kali), jajanan sepinggan (6.2 kali), keringan asin (5.3 kali), dan buah (5.0 kali).Kata kunci: alasan suka, frekuensi konsumsi, makanan jajanan, preferensi

Abstract

Bangun-bangun leaves (Coleus amboinicus Lour) is one of plants that has a function as laktagogue which can increase secretion and production of breast milk. Therefore, the bangun-bangun leaves are potential to be used as an ingredient in the product development of supplement and functional foods for lactating mothers. The objective of this research is to develop supplement and functional foods for lactating mothers from the bangun-bangun leaves.Two types of products were made with same type and amount of basic material, but different in the amount of bangun-bangun leaves, i.e.120 or 150 g. Results of organoleptic test using 40 lactating mothers as panelists show that the average panelist favorite for both products were not significantly different and altogether all panelists can accept the two products.

Abstract

Torbangun soup is made by traditionally recipe as Batak cuisine. A packaging technique has applied by canned the soup to produce Torbangun soup for commercially market. An antioxidant is added to prevent rancidity and to prolong shelf life of canned soup. Regarding to quality analysis, the shelf life of canned Torbangun soup is 14 days in room temperature. The effort has been done by storage the product in cool temperature (5 - 8°C and 10 - 12°C) and resulted in longer shelf life until 22 days. In spite of antioxidant adding, pasteurization at temperature of 75°C for 15 minutes prior canned can result on longer shelf life of the soup. However, can is metal and it might some hazard substance migrate into product. The study showed that the amount of the total residue migrate from can into soup is lower than 10 mg/dm2 allowing by the Directive 90/128/EEC for aqueous food simulant. A total migration test using 95% alcohol gave a value of 37.4435 mg/dm2, means higher than that EU standard as 10 mg/dm2. Keyword: Torbangun leaf soup, total migration, canning method

Abstract

ABSTRACTMutation breeding such as gamma ray irradiation is one of strategy to increase genetic variability. The aim of this research was to indentify genetic variability, performance changes and to obtain putative mutant of Coleus blumei purple/green through gamma ray irradiation. The experiment design used was Randomized Complete Block with single factor and three replications. The gamma ray irradiation was given to shoot cuttings of C. blumei by fractionated irradiation dose: 0 Gy (control), 20+20 Gy, 22.5+22.5 Gy, 25+25 Gy and 27.5+27.5 Gy. The irradiated shoot cuttings were planted in field until MV3 generation. The result of this research showed that gamma ray irradiation on C.blumei purple/green produced the high genetic variability on number of leaves and number of branches i.e. 58.48% and 74.02% by 25+25 Gy dose and number of branches by 20+20 Gy and 22.5+22.5 Gy dose i.e. 53.47% and 68.97% respectively. Physically induced mutation by gamma ray irradiation produced 5 putative mutants respectively on colour and pattern of leaf changes in the following plants: 20+20.5, 20+20.7, 22.5+22.5.8, 25+25.5 and 25+25.8.Keywords: fractionated irradiation, mutagen, ornamental plant, putative mutan, shoot cuttingABSTRAKPemuliaan mutasi dengan iradiasi sinar gamma merupakan salah satu cara dalam meningkatkan keragaman genetik tanaman. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi keragaman genetik, perubahan penampilan dan mendapatkan mutan putatif pada tanaman Coleus blumei ungu/hijau melalui iradiasi sinar gamma. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan kelompok lengkap teracak (RKLT) faktor tunggal dengan 3 ulangan. Iradiasi sinar gamma diberikan terhadap stek pucuk C. blumei ungu/hijau dengan dosis terbagi yaitu: 0 Gy (kontrol), 20+20 Gy, 22.5+22.5 Gy, 25+25 Gy dan 27.5+27.5 Gy. Semua tanaman hasil iradiasi ditanam di lapangan sampai generasi MV3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian iradiasi sinar gamma pada C. blumei ungu/hijau menghasilkan keragaman genetik yang cukup tinggi pada karakter jumlah daun dan jumlah cabang dengan nilai KKG masing-masing 58.48% dan 74.02% pada dosis 25+25 Gy serta karakter jumlah cabang dengan nilai KKG 53.47% dan 68.97% masing-masing pada dosis 20+20 gy dan 22.5+22.5 Gy. Mutasi induksi fisik dengan iradiasi sinar gamma pada C. blumei ungu/hijaumenghasilkan 5 mutan putatif berdasarkan perubahan warna dan corak daun yaitu pada tanaman: 20+20.5, 20+20.7, 22.5+22.5.8, 25+25.5 dan 25+25.8.Kata kunci: iradiasi terbagi, mutagen, mutan putatif, stek pucuk, tanaman hias

Abstract

Daun torbangun (Coleus amboinicus Lour.) memiliki berbagai manfaat dalam meningkatkan kesehatan manusia, namun belum terdapat penelitian yang memberikan informasi mengenai keamanan penggunaan daun torbangun pada masa kehamilan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemberian ekstrak daun torbangun pada masa kebuntingan mencit terhadap perkembangan fetus yang digambarkan dengan kematian sebelum dan setelah implantasi, serta keterlambatan osifikasi rangka pada fetus mencit. Hewan coba yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 24 ekor mencit betina bunting yang diberikan ekstrak daun torbangun dari hari pertama hingga hari ke-18 kebuntingan. Dosis yang diberikan adalah sebanyak 0; 0.56; 1.68; dan 3.36 g/kg berat badan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian ekstrak dengan dosis 3.36 g/kg BB menunjukkan perbedaan dalam peningkatan jumlah kematian sebelum dan setelah implantasi (P<0.05) dibandingkan dengan kelompok perlakuan lainnya. Pemberian ekstrak dengan dosis minimum 0.56 g/kg BB dapat menyebabkan keterlambatan osifikasi pada fetus. Persentase fetus dengan keterlambatan osifikasi meningkat seiring dengan penambahan dosis. Konsumsi ekstrak daun torbangun pada masa kehamilan perlu dihindari karena berpotensi menyebabkan efek samping berupa kematian dan keterlambatan osifikasi pada fetus.

Abstract

Family planning (KB) is an effective effort to control the population and at the same time improve a better life for the community, especially for poor families. The availability of information and extension services is important to increase the participation of fertile aged couples (PUS) in poor families in accessing family planning services. For this reason, this study aims to (1) describe the level of knowledge of PUS poor families on family planning information and counseling, and (2) to analyze the effect of extension agents on the level of knowledge of PUS about family planning. Data were collected through a survey method using questionnaire on 120 respondents representing PUS in poor families in Bogor Regency and Bogor City. Each district / city was selected the sub-district that had the highest number of poor PUS. The results showed that the level of knowledge about family planning with the poor in PUS was classified as low. The results of statistical tests show that extension services have an effect on the level of knowledge of the PUS about family planning.

Abstract

The association of liver and muscle glycogen deposits with serum insulin levels, β-cells pancreas, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced hyperglycemic rats receiving Torbangun leaves extract (TE) investigated. The intervention performed on 25 8-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats divided into four groups. Seven rats separated as a normal group (N), and other rats injected with streptozotocin (STZ). Confirmation of hyperglycemic was characterized by fasting blood glucose >126 mg/dl. Treatment group which is NG (hyperglycemic rats); N (normal rats); H-IM (62.5 mg/kg BW metformin); and H-IT (620 mg/kg BW TE) for 14 days. This study revealed that TE significantly decreased FBG levels, increased insulin production, and the amount of liver glycogen deposits (a=0.01). However, the intervention did not significantly increase the amount of muscle glycogen deposits. TE administration improves β-cells, increases the liver and muscle glycogen deposits. TE was shown to have antihyperglycemic activity by improving the β-cell, increasing blood serum insulin levels, decreasing blood glucose levels, and increasing the liver glycogen deposits.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze and to compare the level substitute of red bean flour (Phaseolus vulgaris L) in producing porriddge for the baby foods. The level substitutes of flour are from 0%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%. The study showed that the 30% substitute has the highest contents in protein (16,37%) and energy (103,4 cal). It is recommended that the baby should eat 165-gram porridge per day to fulfill the nutrient requirement.
