Abstract

Sugar is one of the potential plantation commodities from the agricultural sector in Indonesia. The huge population of Indonesia is causing high sugar consumption quantity every year. This condition is not supported by the national sugar high productivity, resulting in import of refined sugar. The purpose of this study is to measure the sugar industries’ sustainability indexes to increase the improvement strategies priority. This study uses a Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method with eight dimensions that consist of thirty-four attributes. The analysis is performed for two years, from 2012-2014 in the sugar industry as a case study in this study. Successive performance is considered in “good” condition, however the material dimension should be the priority concern in future improvement.

Abstract

Talas Beneng (Xanthosoma undipes K.Koch) merupakan sumber pangan lokal khas Banten yang banyak tumbuh di Kabupaten Pandeglang. Sebagian besar Talas Beneng diolah menjadi tepung dan dijual untuk digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan produk bakery. Akan tetapi masih terdapat masalah dengan produk tepung ini, yaitu karakteristiknya tidak stabil dan mempunyai kandungan asam oksalat yang cukup tinggi yang dapat menimbulkan rasa gatal saat dikonsumsi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperbaiki kualitas produk tepung talas beneng melalui introduksi perlakuan proses yang baru, yaitu penghilangan tahapan perendaman. Parameter yang diamati adalah karakteristik fisik dan kimia tepung Talas Beneng yang dihasilkan dari produksi komersial (dengan perendaman) yang diproduksi oleh kelompok tani dan introduksi perlakuan proses baru (tanpa perendaman). Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa introduksi proses perlakuan tanpa perendaman menghasilkan tepung dengan karakteristik kimia yang lebih baik, yaitu kadar abu, kadar karbohidrat dan serta pangan yang lebih tinggi, dan kadar air dan kadar oksalat yang lebih rendah. Warna tepung talas beneng yang dihasilkan mempunyai nilai a* dan b* yang lebih rendah, sedangkan nilai L* nya lebih tinggi dibanding produk tepung Talas Beneng komersial. Granula pati tepung Talas Beneng yang dihasilkan dari kedua proses tersebut berbentuk poligonal.

Abstract

Financing risk is a condition of uncertainty that affects the success of a business to gain profit. Meanwhile, profitability is the ability to generate profits based on the capital owned. This study aims to analyze the risk and profitability of financing in the tapioca agro- industry using an interest-free calculation basis. The data used are primary data from field observations at the center of tapioca agro-industry in Ciluar, Bogor Regency, and secondary data from literature studies. The analysis is carried out by calculating the risk of loss and profitability of financing using the assumption of an acceptance rate of 10% of the total capital and when the level of acceptance falls -10% of the total capital owned. Furthermore, a comparison is made between tapioca agro-industries that use an interest-bearing financing scheme and an interest-free financing scheme which includes variables of risk of loss, income level, and profitability level. The research results prove that the bigger the loan used, the greater the risk to be borne. Another finding, interest-free financing in the tapioca agro- industry has a higher rate of return and income than interest-bearing financing

Abstract

Coffee is one of the leading commodities in Bengkulu Province. The Agricultural Technology Research Center (BPTP 2014) said Bengkulu Province was one of the top three producers of Indonesian coffee, therefore Bengkulu Province was suitable for agro-tourism development, but in its development agro-tourism would be left behind if it could not innovate according to market trends. Research objectives: to find a strategic location for the development of agro-tourism as well as the right strategy in developing agro-tourism based on the coffee agro-industry. The method used: the method of observation / descriptive analysis, the selected districts will be analyzed the development strategy with the SWOT analysis method Result: the calculation of the LQ method shows that Kepahiang Regency was chosen to be the location for agro-tourism development because the LQ value is 1.049, if the LQ value 1 the area is considered capable of exporting products exit the area. The position of developing agro-tourism in Kepahiang district is currently in quadrant II. This position shows that agro-tourism is already strong, but still faces big challenges. Agro-tourism must continue to diversify its strategies in order to face future threats. The results of the SWOT analysis produce 8 alternatives: Maintain the quality of the coffee produced so that consumer confidence is guaranteed, and tourists will come to visit again. 2) Maintaining the beauty around the tea plantations, by cooperating with the tea plantation managers. 3) Looking for investors who want to invest in agro-tourism as partners. 4) Review agro-tourism institutional management, increase promotional activities to increase market demand. 5) Maintaining characteristics and quality to avoid disappointment of coffee consumers. 6) Increasing the number of coffee processing industries due to abundant resources. 7) Increase the number of training sessions in collaboration with the Government and related agencies to improve the skills of both coffee processing workers and coffee farmers. 8) Improve facilities and infrastructure in order to defend agro-tourism from losing visitors.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the plantation products with significant importance in the economy of Kerinci Regency, and several obstacles have been reported in agroindustry development. This study is focused on designing a strategy to develop the industry in the region. The study was conducted in Kerinci Regency from January 2017 until October 2017. The data was collected by observation, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). In addition, research analysis used internal and external factor methods, internal and external matrices (IE Matrix), and SWOT matrices. The result show the value of the internal and external factors obtained to be 2,759 and 2,888, respectively. When mapped, the IE matrix value is in cell V (five). However, the suitable strategies are the growth and stability strategy, essential for market penetration and product development. Based on AHP analysis, the three main strategic priorities to be applied  are land expansion (0,230), guidance and facilitation of the market information (0,178), and infrastructure improvement (0,124)

Abstract

Akar Millettia sericea merupakan salah satu tanaman khas Indonesia yang belum banyak diketahui manfaatnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui sifat fisik, kimia, toksisitas dan kandungan fitokimia dalam akar Millettia sericea , dan (2) mengetahui sifat kelarutan senyawa antioksidan dalam beberapa jenis pelarut dan menduga jenis senyawa aktifnya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimental-deskrkiptif yang diulang 3 kali. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan akar Millettia sericea  mengandung senyawa fitokimia berupa fenolik, flavonoid dan tannin yang tinggi. Hal itu menjadi indikasi adanya potensi senyawa antioksidan dalam akar Millettia sericea . Ekstraksi akar ini menggunakan beberapa jenis pelarut yang berbeda kepolarannya menunjukkan bahwa senyawa antioksidan dalam akar Millettia sericea  bersifat semi polar. Hal itu disebabkan antifitas antioksidan tertinggi dihasilkan dari pelarut metanol dan etanol. Hasil identifikasi berdasarkan berat molekulnya, terdapa 5 jenis senyawa aktif potensial yang bersifat antioksidan. Akar Millettia sericea  ini telah menunjukkan potensinya sebagai alternatif sumber senyawa antioksidan alami, yang dapat dikembangkan untuk produk pangan dan kosmetik.

Abstract

THE EFFECT OF PRETREATMENT OF MICROWAVE HEATING ON EFFICIENCY OF HYDROLYSIS TIME AND α-CELLULOSIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PALM OIL WASTE BIOMASS. This research is underlied by the needs of various industries for alpha cellulose, especially for the needs of raw material for cellulose nanocristalline, from fiber derived from the most potential waste biomass in Indonesia, namely oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) and mesocarp fibers. This study aims to find out the effect of pretreatment by microwave heating on the efficiency of hydrolysis time and alpha cellulose characteristics from palm oil waste biomass. To produce alpha cellulose, acid hydrolysis is commonly used with the multistage pulping process method, where the fiber is dissolved into HNO3 mixed acid, 3.5% and NaNO2, heated at a temperature of 90 oC for 2 hours, hydrolyzed and delignified to remove lignin and bleached, then separated from betha and gamma cellulose by dissolving it with NaOH 17.5%. In this study, a preliminary treatment (pretreatment) with microwave heating was carried out before the fiber was hydrolyzed so that the hydrolysis process was more efficient without reducing the characteristics of the alpha cellulose produced. The research results showed that pretreatment with microwave heating can streamline the hydrolysis time from 2 hours to 1 hour, without reducing its characteristics, where the degree of fiber crystallinity (XRD) and the yield of alpha cellulose remain high. Microwave heating with 450 watts for 5 minutes (treatment A) is better than 300 watts of heating for 10 minutes (treatment B). From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the pretreatment with microwave heating can streamline the hydrolysis time of the fiber to obtain alpha cellulose and increase the yield of the produced alpha cellulose.

Abstract

Unit Pengolahan Ikan (UPI) di Provinsi Banten dituntut untuk menjadi mapan dan berdaya saing, dan hal tersebut dapat dicapai melalui sistem inovasi. Kekuatan dan kultur lokal yang unik dan berbeda-beda perlu dipertimbangkan dalam membangun sistem inovasi. Untuk itu dibutuhkan strategi inovasi, yaitu suatu kebijakan strategis dalam rangka peningkatan daya saing, yang berfokus pada potensi terbaik setempat dan terbuka pada ide-ide kreatif yang bermanfaat. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh model strategi penguatan sistem inovasi pada unit pengolahan ikan di Provinsi Banten, dan metode yang digunakan adalah metode Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner pada 10 (sepuluh) orang pakar yang mewakili unsur akademisi, pemerintah, industri, dan masyarakat. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh hasil bahwa strategi prioritas penguatan sistem inovasi unit pengolahan ikan di Provinsi Banten adalah memperkuat kerjasama antar aktor inovasi (0.407), diikuti oleh strategi meningkatkan pemanfaatan teknologi inovasi (0.311), dan strategi meningkatkan kapabilitas inovasi sumber daya manusia pada sistem inovasi UPI (0.282).

Abstract

Dalam menghadapi persaingan global, dibutuhkan perencanaan yang baik agar Indonesia yang memiliki ukuran pasar yang paling tinggi serta didukung dengan pasar tenaga kerja yang cukup tinggi tidak hanya menjadi target pasar, tapi juga dapat berperan sebagai pelaku. Meskipun dalam pencapaian jumlah produk olahan perikanan Unit Pengolahan Ikan (UPI) mengalami peningkatan setiap tahunnya, tetapi dalam pelaksanaannya ditemui berbagai permasalahan, antara lain ketersediaan bahan baku yang tidak dapat diperkirakan (bahan baku tersebut dipengaruhi oleh cuaca, musim, sumber daya ikan dan impor bahan baku ikan), penerapan jaminan mutu yang masih belum optimal, serta sarana dan prasarana pengolahan masih terbatas, khususnya di UPI skala UKM. Review ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui berbagai strategi pengembangan UKM agar menghasilkan UKM UPI yang mempunyai keunggulan kompetitif. Dari hasil review bebrapa penelitian, diketahui berapa strategi, riset dan analisis yang memungkinkan untuk di kaji, yaitu pengembangan dengan mengintegrasikan teori RBV dan MBV, pengembangan berdasarkan pendekatan sistem, pengembangan strategi teknologi dan inovasi, serta pengembangan berdasarkan prospektif bidang usaha tersebut di masa depan.

Abstract

Fish oil is one of important fatty acid sources that contains Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid such as eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA).Omega-3 fatty acid in acylglycerol form (monoester) is considered better as food chemical form because it is digested easily by human digestive system. In this research, monoester was produced using Aspergillus niger lipase which cut the acylglycerol chain in the sn (1) and (3). Organic solvent especially hydrophobic solvent was used in the hydrolysis to increase the catalytic activity of the enzyme. The hydrophobic solvent used in this research had hydrophobicities between 2 until 4, such as toluene, hexane, and heptane. The objective of this research was to determine temperature, pH, and percentage of water added which produce the highest degree of hydrolysis in the presence of organic solvent. The correlation between the yield and the amount of omega-3 was also investigated. The variables used were temperature (25-65oC), pH (5-9) and water addition (1-5%V/V). In the toluene media, the highest degree of enzymatic hydrolysis reached 15.69% at 45oC, pH 5, and water addition of 1%V/V. In the hexane media, it reached 75.12% at 45oC, pH 5, and water addition of 5%V/V, and in the presence of heptane, it reached 23.94% at 25oC, pH5, and water addition of 1%V/V. Meanwhile, in the presence of toluene, it showed 3, 01% of total omega-3 that all of them was EPA. In the hexane media, total omega-3 was 21.93% with EPA amount of 17.75% and DHA of 1.21% and in the heptane media, total omega-3 was 12.1% with amount of EPA of 10.23%, and DHA of 1.87%. According to degree of hydrolysis, it can be concluded that hexane gave the best result for the enzymatic hydrolysis of fish oil by the lipase with addition of organic solvent.Keywords: fish oil, lipase, organic solvent, Omega-3,EPA, DHA
