Abstract

Abstract. One of the factors that caused students less comprehension to subject material is students were not guided to find the concepts of taught material. During this time, most of the teachers more used Classical Learning by using Tutorial Method and Cooperative Learning Model that only applied Discussion and Question Answer Method without guided the students to find the concepts of the taught material. Experiential Learning model is one of the learning model that can be used to overcome the problem. This learning model consists of four steps. The steps are Concrete Experience (CE), Reflection Observation (RO), Abstract Conceptualization (AC), and Active Experimentation (AE). This research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) used two cycles. Every cycle consists of twice learning and once test in the last. The research that had been done in SMP Salafiyah Miftahul Huda Jenggawah Jember showed that the students learning achievement on Circle Elements theme used the implementation of Experiential Learning Model got increased. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop collaborative learning-based learning resources and their impact on students' capacity for critical thought. This study used a combination of methods, namely development research (R&D) with Thiagarajan 4D model and experimental research. Data was collected through observations, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The validity coefficients for the Teaching Module, worksheet, and test were 3.80, 3.80, and 3.70, respectively. Observations showed that 96% of the learning tools met practical criteria. The tools were effective, with 93% of student activities rated very good, 96% of students giving positive responses, and 85% achieving learning completion. A t-test (sig = 0.007) confirmed the collaborative learning tool based on LSLC significantly enhanced students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is an ability that students must have, using the jumping task method can develop students' critical thinking abilities. In the decision-making process, behavioral control is needed so that students remain confident and motivated to solve a problem optimally. One behavioral control over what a person feels is emotional intelligence. This research aims to describe students' critical thinking abilities in solving jumping task questions on SPLDV material in terms of the students' level of emotional intelligence. This type of research is descriptive qualitative using questionnaires, tests and interviews to collect research data. Three students from class VIII-B at SMPN 7 Jember were chosen as research subjects. The research results show that in solving jumping task questions, students with high emotional intelligence have high critical thinking abilities, students with moderate emotional intelligence have moderate critical thinking abilities, and students with low emotional intelligence have low critical thinking abilities. For students with low emotional intelligence, when faced with difficult problems, they are expected to be able to practice controlling their emotions, convince themselves to always be optimistic, and more practice to communicating so that you can convey information and intentions more clearly and confidently

Abstract

Problem-solving and mathematical connections are two important things in learning mathematics, namely as the goal of learning mathematics. However, it is unfortunate that the ability of students 'mathematical connections is very low so that it impacts on students' failure in solving mathematical problems. The writing of this paper aims to discuss the understanding of mathematical problems, mathematical problem solving, mathematical connections, and how they play a role in solving mathematical problems. The method used in writing this paper is a method of studying literature, which is reinforced by the example of a qualitative research result. The research subjects consisted of two eighth grade students of junior high school in Jember East Java, Indonesia, in 2017/2018. The research data consisted of written test results solving the mathematical problem as well as interview results. Data analysis uses descriptive qualitative analysis. From the results of literature studies and research results provide a conclusion that mathematical connections play an important role, namely as a tool for students to use in solving mathematical problems where students who have good mathematical connection skills succeed in solving mathematical problems well, while poor mathematical connection skills cause students to fail in solving mathematical problems.

Abstract

Teaching approach applied by mathematics teacher can affect students' mathematical connection ability (MCA). The fact shows that there are still many teachers using conventional learning, causing passive students and low MCA among students. The purpose of this study was to describe the effectiveness of applying a collaborative realistic mathematics education (RME) approach using the classroom and the outdoor environment to improve students' MCA on the topic of similar triangles. This quasi-experimental research with a qualitative descriptive approach took the subject of ninth-grade students at a public junior high school in Jember, Indonesia. Data were collected using observation sheets, questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The data were analyzed using the effectiveness test (N-gain score). The results showed that the application of collaborative RME using the indoor and outdoor classrooms made students more active in physical, social, and mental activities. This learning is effective in improving students' MCA. The average score of 57.47 in the pre-test increased to 93.88 in the post- test, and the N-gain score was 0.86. Mathematics teachers are advised to apply this learning approach, not only on the topic of similarity triangles, but also on other suitable topics.DOI: https://doi.org/10.22342/jpm.16.3.17883.303-324

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between lateral thinking ability and creativity among high school students. A total of 158 students were assessed using lateral thinking and creative thinking tests to evaluate their skills. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between these two abilities, indicating that students with higher lateral thinking scores tend to have better creative thinking scores. Linear regression analysis showed that lateral thinking skills could be a significant predictor of student creativity. However, despite the regression model indicating a strong relationship, some data variation suggests that other factors, such as motivation or learning environment, may also influence creativity. This study highlights the importance of lateral thinking skills in fostering creativity and provides recommendations for further research to consider additional variables and employ more complex modeling approaches

Abstract

This study aims to develop Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning tools integrated with agricultural activities, fulfilling the criteria of valid, practical, and effective to improve numeracy skills, particularly in the topics of direct and inverse proportionality. This study used the research and development with the Plomp model, comprising three phases. The first phase, preliminary research, involved 26 teachers and prospective teachers. The second phase, development or prototyping, engaged three experts and three students. The third phase, assessment, was conducted through trial testing with 31 participants in the experimental class and 31 participants in the control class. Data collection techniques included questionnaires, surveys, observations, tests, and interviews. Data processing was conducted using descriptive statistics. The results of the study indicate that the developed RME learning tools integrated with agricultural activities fulfills the criteria of valid, practical, and effective. The validity criteria were achieved with scores of 3.77 for the teaching module, 3.81 for the LKPD, 3.84 for the learning achievement test, and 3.87 for the instruction manual. The practicality criteria were met with a learning implementation rate of 95% (very good), and student activity reaching 84.9% (active). Additionally, student and teacher response questionnaires showed positive feedback, with scores of 95.48% and 100%, respectively. The effectiveness criteria were achieved with an average N-Gain score of 0.65 (moderate) and the experimental class achieved higher average scores than the control class. This study implies that RME integrated with agricultural activities can be recommended for mathematics teachers to support numeracy teaching.
