Abstract

Pencak silat is a martial art that demands a combination of physical ability, technique, and strategy. The intermittent, high-intensity nature of the competition means that athletes' energy needs are simultaneously dominated by the anaerobic and aerobic systems. Therefore, a training model capable of accommodating these physiological demands is needed, one of which is High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This article aims to analyze the physical and energy needs of pencak silat athletes as a basis for developing an effective HIIT training model. The method used is a literature review of various studies related to sports physiology and martial arts athlete performance. The analysis results indicate that pencak silat athletes require anaerobic endurance, muscle strength, speed, agility, and good aerobic capacity. The HIIT model is considered relevant because it can increase VO₂max capacity, lactate tolerance, and energy efficiency. Thus, developing a HIIT program based on the specific needs of pencak silat can optimally improve athlete performance.

Abstract

Low forward roll proficiency among students is often caused by limited instructional approaches that rely on verbal explanations and demonstrations, making it difficult to understand movement sequences. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Augmented Reality-based SenAR learning model on students’ forward roll skills. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was used, involving 68 university students aged 18–20 years. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups. Forward roll performance was assessed using a structured performance rubric. The experimental group received SenAR-based training, while the control group used conventional methods. Data were analyzed using independent t-test after normality and homogeneity assumptions were met. Results showed a significant difference between groups (p < 0.001), with the experimental group achieving higher post-test scores (M = 38.24) than the control group (M = 35.03). These findings suggest that SenAR improves students’ movement understanding and execution. However, the short intervention duration and limited sample should be considered in interpreting the results.

Abstract

Study purpose. Crescent kick performance is essential in pencak silat, yet limited evidence exists on how speed, flexibility, and leg muscle explosive power interact to determine this skill among young athletes, particularly given the suboptimal achievement in Kabupaten Pelalawan at the POPDA competition. This research examines the direct and indirect influences of these three biomotor components on crescent kick proficiency among young athletes aged 14-17 years in Pangkalan Kerinci District. Materials and methods. A quantitative approach with path analysis design was employed. The study population comprised 44 young pencak silat athletes aged 14 - 17 years in Pangkalan Kerinci District using saturated sampling. Data collection utilized a 30 meter sprint test, front split test, standing long jump test, and 10 second repetitive kicking test. Data analysis used Jamovi version 2.6.44. Results. Speed directly influenced crescent kick ability (0.657; p<0.001). Flexibility also demonstrated a direct effect (0.281; p<0.001). Leg muscle explosive power showed a direct effect (0.332; p<0.001). Speed exhibited an indirect effect through leg muscle explosive power (31.1%; p<0.001), while flexibility demonstrated a stronger indirect effect (63.4%; p<0.001). All three variables simultaneously influenced crescent kick ability (F=320; p<0.001; R²=0.960). The main strength is the use of path analysis, while the limitation is the cross-sectional design and 4% unexplained variance. Conclusions. Speed, flexibility, and leg muscle explosive power significantly affect crescent kick ability. Leg muscle explosive power functions as a partial mediator, particularly dominant in the flexibility crescent kick relationship. The theoretical implication enriches sports science knowledge regarding mediation mechanisms. Practically, training programs should integrate these three components systematically. Future experimental research is recommended to test training program effectiveness and consider additional factors such as coordination, balance, and psychological aspects.

Abstract

The problem in this study is the inaccuracy of smash performance among volleyball athletes at Club Nusantara in Kurai, Suliki District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The inaccuracy of smash execution is influenced by several factors, including leg muscle explosive power and eye-hand coordination. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between leg muscle explosive power and eye-hand coordination on smash ability. This study employed a correlational research design. The population consisted of 25 athletes from Club Bolavoli Nusantara in Kurai, Suliki District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 15 athletes. The instruments used in this study included the Vertical Jump Test to measure leg muscle explosive power, the Hand-Eye Coordination Test to measure eye-hand coordination, and a volleyball smash test to assess smash ability. Data were analyzed using correlation coefficient analysis, followed by a significance test of the correlation coefficient. The results of the study are as follows: (1) There is a significant relationship between leg muscle explosive power and smash ability, with a calculated r-value (r-count) of 0.779, exceeding the r-table value of 0.514. (2) There is a significant relationship between eye-hand coordination and smash ability, with an r-count of 0.689, which also exceeds the r-table value of 0.514. (3) There is a significant simultaneous relationship between leg muscle explosive power and eye-hand coordination with smash ability, as indicated by an F-count value of 5.41, which is greater than the F-table value of 3.88.

Abstract

The problem in this study is the suboptimal learning outcomes of Physical Education (PJOK) of class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Batumandi, Agam Regency, which is thought to be related to student learning motivation. This study aims to determine the relationship between learning motivation and learning outcomes of PJOK of class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Batumandi, Agam Regency. This study uses a correlational method that aims to determine the relationship between the variables studied. The study population was all class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Batumandi, Agam Regency. The sample was determined using a simple random sampling technique, resulting in 30 students as research samples. The instruments used were a learning motivation questionnaire and PJOK report card scores. Data were analyzed using the Product Moment correlation technique. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between learning motivation and learning outcomes of PJOK of class XI students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Batumandi, Agam Regency. This is evidenced by the correlation coefficient value of r count of 0.165 which is smaller than r table of 0.361 at a significance level of 0.05. Thus, learning motivation did not show a significant relationship with physical education (PJOK) learning outcomes in this study. Based on these findings, the researcher provides suggestions for PJOK teachers to implement more engaging learning and provide more opportunities for practical training.
