Abstract

East Java is in second place after West Java as the province with the highest cases of gender-based violence against women in Indonesia. Society in general is more focused on severe forms of sexual violence, such as rape and sex trafficking, but less focused on their attitudes towards sexual harassment. Attitudes towards sexual harassment have an impact on victims, such as causing shame, disrupting individual well-being, and even leading to depression, both for those who experience it and those who witness it. One factor that is related to attitudes towards sexual harassment is ambivalent sexism. Ambivalent sexism is a form of hostility towards women while simultaneously feeling positive towards them but still in line with sexist antipathy. This research aims to empirically test the role of ambivalent sexism in attitudes towards sexual harassment among students in East Java. This research was conducted on 112 respondents with the criteria of students studying in East Java. Data were collected using the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory (ASI) and Sexual Harassment Attitude Scale (SHAS) questionnaires. Data collection was carried out by distributing online questionnaires. The data analysis technique used was a multiple linear regression test. The research results show that the two dimensions of ambivalent sexism, namely benevolent sexism and hostile sexism, have a significant role in attitudes towards sexual harassment. Benevolent sexism and hostile sexism each significantly predict attitudes towards sexual harassment. These results indicate that the higher the attitude towards traditional roles and stereotypes of women (benevolent sexism) accompanied by the need for sexual dominance, control, and viewing women as inferior (hostile sexism), the more tolerant attitudes towards sexual harassment will increase.

Abstract

This research aims to optimise the mental health of parents and early childhood in Gili Iyang, Sumenep, through psychoeducation for the ‘Child Friendly Home’ movement. The programme uses psychoeducation and joyful learning methods to increase parents' motivation and positive attitudes in creating a nurturing environment that supports children's development. The participants were 50 parents, children, and early childhood educators from Bancamara and Banraas villages. Participants were selected by purposive sampling, based on the purpose of the activity, which is to optimise the mental health of parents and early childhood. The results of the pretest and posttest evaluations showed a significant increase in knowledge with a note that there was a need for re-evaluation in the preparation of the questions. However, through observation, discussion, and question and answer, positive attitudinal changes related to child-friendly parenting were observed. These findings indicate the importance of community-based interventions to improve family mental health in rural areas. This study recommends that further development is needed so that similar programmes can be implemented in other communities.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the self-acceptance profile of women who wahe experienced Child Sexual Abuse by their father. The most severe form of Child Sexual Abuse is considered to be intrafamilial abuse, involving a father, uncle, or older brother. Such abuse leads to numerous negative impacts on the victims, one of which is low self-acceptance. The researcher seeks to explore further how vistims of Child Sexual Abuse by their father eventually achieve self-acceptance. This study employs a qualitative method with an intrinsic case study approach. There are two subjects involved in this research who are adult women over the age of 18 and have experienced Child Sexual Abuse committed by their father. Data collection for this study was conducted through interviews using the credibility member checking technique. Data analysis utilized a theory-driven thematic analysis technique. The results of the research indicate that initially, victims of Child Sexual Abuse by their father have low self-acceptance. However, they eventually manage to accept themselves by going through five stages: aversion, curiosity, tolerance, allowing, and friendship. Self-acceptance does not occur spontaneously but is facilitated by several factors, namely, a stable self-concept, favorable social attitudes, good childhood training, a preponderance of successes, and self-perspective.

Abstract

International migration concerns the mobilization of individuals from one country to another. The intention of a certain group to participate in an international migration can be understood through various efforts, depending on the methods employed, frameworks used, populations observed, and variables considered. This study tried to identify various factors that influence the decision of prospective migrant workers to migrate out of Indonesia. This quantitative study used a survey method, with the approval of the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of East Java. This study involved 110 prospective migrant workers who filled out open-ended questionnaires. Descriptive analysis of the survey results was reported in the form of tabulations and percentages. The results show that demographic characteristics, such as sex, age, marital status, and destination, contribute to the decision to migrate abroad. Additionally, friends and family who were already working in the destination country were a significant influence. Conclusively, the push and pull factors have three themes, which are personal, social, and economic factors. Various combinations of these factors motivate prospective migrant workers to seek a better fate abroad. This research might help the government and non-governmental organizations to aid prospective migrant workers in managing their expectations and working to achieve their dreams through quality education and skills training for increased productivity.
