Abstract

Background: The most common nutritional problem in Indonesia is malnutrition. Children under five years are the age group that most often suffers from malnutrition. Underweight is a condition when a child's weight is below the normal range, indicated by a weight for age index of <-2 SD. Data from the health report for children under five years in North Hulu Sungai Regency, the percentage of underweight in Sungai Malang Community-Health Centers was 15.38% and in 2023 increase to 15.87%. Objectives: The aims of this research to determine the determinants of underweight among children under five years in Sungai Malang Community-Health Center, North Hulu Sungai Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 106 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-square), and multivariate (binary logistic regression) methods. Results: The prevalence of underweight was 33.96%. Significant determinants included low family income (OR=12.74; p=0.006), medium household size (OR=7.98; p=0.023), history of infectious diseases (OR=13.84; p=0.001), and low meal frequency (OR=47.19; p<0.001). Maternal education, child’s age, and sex were not significantly associated. Conclusions: Meal frequency emerged as the strongest determinant of underweight among children under five, followed by low family income, medium household size, and history of infectious diseases. The study recommends prioritizing efforts to improve meal frequency through community-based education, while encouraging health centers to actively promote early detection and prevention of underweight

Abstract

Various maternal factors potentially influence breast milk sufficiency. This study aims to analyze maternal factors associated with breast milk sufficiency in Banjar Regency. This analytical study used a cross-sectional design and was conducted from April to July 2025 in the Banjar Regency Community Health Center. A total of 70 postpartum mothers were selected using a probability sampling method. The dependent variable was breast milk adequacy, while the independent variables included maternal age, gestational age, parity, psychological condition, sociocultural factors, breast and nipple condition, delivery method, contraceptive use, and early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD). Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Bivariate analysis showed that nipple condition (p = 0.01; OR = 5.25), maternal age (p = 0.011; OR = 4.92), vaginal delivery (p = 0.03; OR = 2.89), and early initiation of breastfeeding (p = 0.039; OR = 2.89) were significantly associated with breast milk adequacy. Multivariate logistic regression confirmed that nipple condition was the most dominant factor (p = 0.04; AOR = 0.15; 95% CI: 0.02–0.99). The regression model showed good predictive power (R² = 0.61; classification accuracy = 82.90%). In conclusion, nipple condition is the most influential maternal factor in determining breast milk adequacy. These findings underscore the importance of early assessment of nipple anatomy and appropriate supportive interventions during pregnancy.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for six months is a critical public health intervention to reduce infant mortality in Indonesia. However, its implementation continues to face significant barriers, including low maternal health literacy, limited psychosocial support, and challenges in lactation management. Although digital health technologies have expanded rapidly, existing lactation applications in Indonesia remain fragmented and predominantly focus on one-way educational functions, without integrating maternal health data or clinical infant monitoring. This study aims to systematically analyze the characteristics and development trends of lactation mobile applications in Indonesia and to identify feature gaps, which will serve as the foundation for designing an integrated digital model. The main contribution of this study is the development of a conceptual framework for an integrated lactation technology model that combines breastfeeding education, family involvement, maternal factor documentation, and breast milk adequacy monitoring using infant physiological indicators, all within a single digital ecosystem. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were performed using Publish or Perish software on the Google Scholar database for studies published between 2017 and February 2026 using structured keywords. Five eligible studies were analyzed thematically and appraised using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Checklist. The review found that all identified applications were Android-based (100%, n=5). Four applications (80%) focused on maternal education and demonstrated improvements in knowledge and reduced anxiety; one (20%) emphasized family support through co-parenting; and one (20%) addressed lactation management via milk stock calculation features. No application integrates maternal history, early detection of lactation problems, and infant-based physiological monitoring within a unified platform. In conclusion, lactation application development in Indonesia remains fragmented and lacks a system-integrated approach. The proposed SiCubit conceptual model provides a decision-support framework for integrated breastfeeding monitoring and digital lactation support.

Abstract

Background: Pediatric eczema (atopic dermatitis; AD) and food allergies (FA) are rising globally and share immune pathways that extend harm beyond the skin to growth, cognition, and social development—yet no synthesis has examined all three developmental domains exclusively using primary empirical evidence. This systematic review aimed to determine whether children with AD and/or FA exhibit: (1) impaired physical growth; (2) adverse cognitive and neurodevelopmental outcomes; and (3) elevated rates of behavioral and social difficulties compared to unaffected peers. Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and grey literature repositories identified 210 records after deduplication. Following title/abstract screening and full-text review of 98 articles, 35 primary empirical studies—spanning diverse designs—met inclusion criteria. Systematic and narrative reviews were excluded. Results: Twenty-two of 35 studies reported impaired physical growth, including lower height, weight, BMI, and head circumference z-scores, with 18 reaching statistical significance. Deficits were most pronounced in children with severe or persistent disease and multiple allergen restrictions. Cognitive and neurodevelopmental impacts were identified in 13 studies, with effects varying by developmental domain and disease severity. Behavioral and social difficulties appeared in 10 studies, predominantly linked to severe disease and sleep disruption. Conclusion: Eczema and food allergies impair child development through interconnected immune, nutritional, and psychosocial pathways. Multidisciplinary care and early intervention are essential; clinicians should routinely refer affected children to pediatric dietitians. Future research should prioritize large longitudinal studies incorporating standardized neurodevelopmental assessments and biomarkers.
