Abstract

Thesis writing is a complex process that often presents various challenges for final-year students. One of the main obstacles encountered is low motivation, which leads to delays in completing final assignments and graduation. Academic motivation plays a crucial role in encouraging students to complete their studies on time. One external factor believed to enhance academic motivation is peer social support. This study aims to examine the relationship between peer social support and academic motivation among final-year students completing their thesis at Universitas Negeri Padang. The research employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 100 respondents selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The research instruments included a peer social support scale and an academic motivation scale, with data analyzed using Pearson correlation. The results show a significant positive relationship between peer social support and academic motivation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.316 and a significance level of 0.001 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the higher the peer social support, the higher the academic motivation of students in completing their thesis.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between career adaptability and work readiness among final-year diploma (D3) students at Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative method with a correlational design was employed. The study population consisted of final-year D3 students from the 2021–2022 cohorts, with a sample of 311 participants selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The instruments used included the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) and a work readiness scale. Data were analyzed using the Pearson product-moment correlation test. The analysis yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.603 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000, indicating a positive and significant relationship between career adaptability and work readiness. This means that the higher a student’s level of career adaptability, the higher their level of work readiness, and vice versa. These findings underscore the crucial role of career adaptability in preparing students for the workforce and provide a foundation for strengthening career guidance interventions in vocational higher education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability among final-year university students. Low career adaptability can hinder the ability to adjust during the transition from college to the workforce, potentially increasing the open unemployment rate among university graduates. Proactive personality, as a trait that encourages individuals to take initiative and make changes in their lives, is presumed to play a role in shaping career adaptability. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The study population consisted of active undergraduate students from the 2018–2021 cohorts, with a sample of 441 students selected through proportionate random sampling. Data were collected using the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale and the Proactive Personality Scale–Short Version, and analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation test. The results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.744 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant positive relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability. The higher the proactive personality of final-year students, the higher their career adaptability. Overall, the sample demonstrated high levels in both variables. These findings confirm that the strong link between proactive personality and career adaptability reflects a high level of readiness for the transition from college to the workforce and can serve as a reference for designing career development programs at universities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of employability skills on job readiness, with social support as a moderating variable among students at Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative method was employed using a survey approach and purposive sampling technique, resulting in a sample of 409 students. Data were analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to assess both the direct effect of employability skills on job readiness and the moderating role of social support. The results show that employability skills have a positive impact on job readiness. Social support significantly moderates this relationship with a negative direction (buffering effect). Furthermore, employability skills contributed 59.4% to students’ job readiness, while the inclusion of social support as a moderating variable strengthened the interaction effect to 63.5%. These findings underscore the importance of mastering employability skills to enhance students' job readiness, with social support playing a significant role in shaping the dynamic between the two.

Abstract

Although nurses play an important role in providing professional healthcare services, work situations characterized by high pressure, heavy workloads, demands of responsibility, and emotional strain in nursing care have the potential to cause job stress. In this context, psychological capital is regarded as a positive psychological resource that can help nurses cope with work pressure. This study aimed to determine the effect of psychological capital on nurses’ job stress at Naili DBS Hospital, Padang City. This study employed a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design. The study population included all nurses at Naili DBS Hospital, Padang City, with a sample of 97 nurses selected through the total sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert scales based on the aspects of psychological capital and job stress, and were then analyzed statistically. The results showed that psychological capital had a significant effect on nurses’ job stress, with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.620, a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.385, and an F value of 59.41 with a significance of p < 0.001, indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. These findings indicate that psychological capital plays a role in influencing nurses’ level of job stress, although there are still other factors, such as social support, work–life balance, and leadership style, that also have the potential to affect job stress. Thus, this study emphasizes the importance of strengthening psychological capital as part of a human resource management strategy in hospitals, while also providing a theoretical contribution to the study of occupational psychology and practical implications for the development of a more supportive work environment for nurses.

Abstract

Low levels of work engagement in the government sector may reduce the quality of public services, making it important to identify factors that can strengthen employee engagement. Meaningful work is one factor assumed to influence work engagement. This study aims to determine the effect of meaningful work on work engagement among employees of the Regional Office of Ministry X in West Sumatra Province. A quantitative causal approach was employed using simple linear regression analysis. The sample consisted of 106 employees selected through probability sampling. Data were collected using the Work and Meaning Inventory (WAMI) and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). The findings indicate that meaningful work has a significant effect on work engagement (p < .05), with a regression coefficient of 0.817. The R value of 0.455 indicates a moderate relationship, while the R² value of 0.207 shows that meaningful work contributes 20.7% to work engagement. These findings suggest that higher levels of meaningful work are associated with higher levels of employee work engagement. This study contributes to the literature on organizational behavior in the public sector by providing empirical evidence of the role of meaningful work in strengthening work engagement. Practically, the findings imply that bureaucratic institutions should strengthen employees’ sense of meaning in their work to enhance engagement and support the improvement of public service quality.
