Abstract

Men who have sex with sex men (MSM) recognized as key population, which is currently raising significant concern because of an increase number of HIV infection. The iceberg situation is a worrying situation that must be sought for an appropriate approach in order to protect this group from HIV infection. Improvement in HIV testing should be intensified, it is important to generate an effective strategy in order to increase HIV status notification among the group. HIV self-testing (HIVST) will essentially accommodate privacy, confidentiality and personal space for stigmatized key populations. This occasion was carried out by conducting focus group discussions with MSM HIV peer councelors of Akbar Foundation a non-governmental organization in Padang Indonesia by introducing HIV self-testing kit tools and tele counselling in HIVST program implementation. In November, a focus group discussion was held to discuss the possible strategies to be possibly implemented in the program. Participants said that the use of HIVST was not generally available as prevention options for key populations, especially MSM. Most participants agreed that having more free options for HIV testing would increase the rate at which will increase motivation to get to know their HIV status. However, concerns were also expressed about the accuracy of the test and the reliability of the results due to the lack of technical knowledge on how to conduct self-testing by the population. It is important to provide a HIVST program for MSM to increase the number of serostatus check among the group.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are dangerous diseases and result in death. The problems found by partners are the low coverage of NCD screening targets, access to health services and the absence of an integrated services centre for the elderly in the targetted area, which impacts NCD monitoring not being carried out. Community service activities aimed to prevent and suppress NCD cases, especially for older people in vulnerable groups. The solution was to detect NCD and provide education and counselling for older people with NCD problems. The community service partner was the Public Health Center. The method of implementing activities was health screening (measuring height and weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and uric acid), providing health education about hypertension and diabetes mellitus and health counselling for those indicated by NCDs in Pauh sub-District, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The screening results found 15 healthy older people, 13 people with hypertension, ten people with diabetes, nine people with rheumatism, and seven people with high cholesterol. The results of education and counselling found an increase in knowledge by 16.69 points—follow-up plans by partners to form elderly health centres.

Abstract

The rising number of elderly individuals presents challenges, especially concerning their health and well-being. Without proper intervention, these issues can escalate into more complex problems, including cognitive impairment. To minimize the risk of cognitive impairment that can lead to dementia, it's crucial to reduce risk factors like quitting smoking and engaging in regular physical activity. This study aimed to explore the relationship between smoking, physical activity, and cognitive impairment in the elderly. A retrospective research method was employed, utilizing simple random sampling. The study included 142 elderly participants who met the inclusion criteria. To assess cognitive levels, the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used. This instrument demonstrated strong validity and reliability, with a Cronbach's Alpha of α=0.827. For measuring physical activity, the Physical Activities Scale For the Elderly (PASE) instrument was utilized, also showing good validity and reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha of α=0.768. Data analysis was conducted using the chi-square statistical test, which revealed a significant relationship between smoking, physical activity, and cognitive impairment in the elderly (p < 0.05). The research findings indicated that the majority of respondents (57.04%) experienced mild cognitive impairment. Additionally, 54.23% of respondents had a history of smoking, and 65.49% exhibited poor physical activity.

Abstract

The world's population, including Indonesia, is currently undergoing an aging process, characterized by an increase in the number and proportion of elderly individuals. The aging process leads to changes in physical health, sleep patterns, psychosocial well-being, and cognitive function in the elderly. Cognitive impairment poses a serious problem for older adults due to its physical, psychological, social, and economic impacts. Effective interventions can provide holistic support to elderly individuals with cognitive impairment, helping them to live better and more meaningful lives. This research aims to analyze the influence of aerobic exercise and cognitive stimulation on the improvement of cognitive function in the elderly. The research method used was an experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The study sample consisted of 34 elderly individuals who met the inclusion criteria. The research instrument used the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) to measure the cognitive level of the elderly participant. Data were processed using SPSS and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed that the average score of cognitive function experienced a significant increase between before and after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000. Based on the findings of this study, aerobic exercise and cognitive stimulation have a positive influence on the improvement of cognitive function in the elderly.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage marked by physical, psychological, emotional, and social transitions that increase vulnerability to mental health challenges. Internal and external stressors such as academic pressure, peer relationships, and the school environment can heighten the risk of psychological distress. This community service program was conducted on 28 May 2025 at SMKN 1 Lembah Gumanti, Solok, West Sumatra, through collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Andalas, and the school community. The program aimed to increase awareness of adolescent mental health and promote preventive strategies through school-based education. The intervention was delivered in three phases: (1) screening and problem assessment using the SRQ-29, (2) educational sessions, and (3) stress management workshops. A total of 196 Grade XI students participated. Pre-test and post-test results demonstrated measurable improvements in knowledge of adolescent mental health (Mean pre-test = 7.69, SD = 1.89; Mean post-test = 8.49, SD = 1.91). Students also reported increased awareness of internal (resilience, emotional regulation, mindfulness) and external (peer support, school environment) factors influencing mental health, as well as confidence in applying stress management techniques. These findings underscore the importance of school-based interventions in raising awareness, strengthening coping skills, and preventing mental health problems among adolescents. Future programs may expand by incorporating peer-support models such as student mental health ambassadors to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

Abstract

Stunting among children under five years old (toddler) is a fundamental challenge that must be addressed. This is due to the nutritional status of children in the first five years of life is related to cognitive development and the prevention of chronic diseases later in life. Given the high prevalence of stunting across various regions, it is necessary to conduct research to identify factors associated with stunting. Food security is one of the factors contributing to stunting based on the WHO framework. This study aimed to examine the relationship between household food security and the incidence of stunting. This study used a cohort design with retrospective approach. The retrospective method used in this approach involves first measuring stunting in children under five years old, then tracing back their household food security history to determine whether there are factors influencing the incidence of stunting. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, and the sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in a total of 123 mothers with stunted toddlers. Chi-square analysis was used for data analysis. The chi-square test showed a p-value of 0.010. This study found a significant relationship between household food security and the incidence of stunting.
