Abstract

In English, the forms of singular nouns commonly different from those of the plural ones. Many students are confused with how to construct the irregular plural noun forms. The formation of irregular plural nouns has complex and unique patterns. This current study aims to get information about the types of errors commonly made by EFL learners in constructing irregular plural nouns and to know how the errors occurred. This study is descriptive qualitative applying error analysis theory. The data were collected by giving the respondents a test consisting of 28 questions on irregular plural construction. The result of analysis shows that the errors made by the respondents can be classified into three types: misformation, addition, and omission. Misformation was the kind of error most respondents made. The error specifically occurred with the nouns that had quite dissimilar plural forms from the singular ones (e.g., foot – feet, goose – geese).

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the critical role of location proximity in the decision-making process of prospective students when selecting higher education institutions. Drawing upon Aristotle's persuasive theories, the research aims to craft effective promotional content that leverages the significance of location proximity in attracting students to colleges and universities. Through a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, the study investigates the extent to which location proximity influences students' decisions and develops persuasive messages based on ethos, pathos, and logos theories. Findings indicate that proximity to home significantly influences students' choices, driven by factors such as convenience, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness. By recognizing and addressing the importance of location proximity, educational institutions can enhance their recruitment strategies, bolster competitiveness, and contribute to student success. This research underscores the need for institutions to tailor offerings and promotional strategies to resonate with prospective students effectively, emphasizing the benefits of attending a nearby institution.

Abstract

This current research reveals how President Trump grammatically constructed his clauses to trivialize the coronavirus (COVID-19). This research uses a discourse analysis approach with a qualitative design. The research data are President Trump’s trivializing clauses (192 main clauses) taken from his speeches, press interviews, remarks, and tweets from January 2020 to June 2020. Hallidayan SFL and Straker’s technique of trivialization are used as the basis of analysis. The result shows that most of the trivializing clauses are declarative while the others are interrogative and imperative. It is also identified that the declarative mood (statements of opinion and fact) reflects the techniques of sneaking through, trivializing the target, and discounting the target. The interrogative mood (rhetorical questions) demonstrates the technique of discounting the target. In addition, the imperative mood (directives) reflects the technique of sneaking through. Finally, the result also shows that oversimplification, severity decrease, and exaggeration characterize President Trump’s trivializing clauses.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the "Digital Forest Predator Game" (DFPG), a digital escape room game designed to teach food web concepts to elementary students in Indonesia. Despite increasing integration of technology in education, elementary students continue to struggle with abstract ecological concepts, particularly in developing countries where both infrastructural and pedagogical barriers exist. Using a quantitative descriptive approach with a one-shot case study design, this research evaluated the implementation of DFPG among 27 fifth-grade students in Surabaya. Data collection employed student response questionnaires that measured three dimensions (interest/motivation, active involvement, and learning effectiveness), as well as concept comprehension tests. Results revealed positive student responses across all dimensions (Interest/Motivation: 3.2/4, Learning Effectiveness: 3.1/4, Active Involvement: 3.0/4) and strong learning outcomes with 70.4% of students achieving high scores (80-100 range) and a mean score of 84.36. The findings demonstrate that interactive digital games effectively bridge the gap between abstract ecological concepts and elementary students' understanding while simultaneously fostering digital literacy and problem-solving skills. This research contributes to educational science by providing empirical evidence of gamification's effectiveness in elementary ecology education and establishing a practical framework for integrating technology in resource-constrained educational settings.

Abstract

This study reviews the development of pragmatic competence within digital communication platforms, aiming to synthesize evidence from recent literature and assess both opportunities and challenges. The review employs a systematic methodology, drawing from databases including JSTOR, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Wiley Online Library, and applying inclusion criteria covering studies published between 2015 and 2024. The findings highlight five central themes: authenticity and context, intercultural diversity, personalization and adaptivity, technological barriers and access gaps, and the potential of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, gaming, and virtual reality. Evidence shows that authentic digital contexts and intercultural exchanges foster pragmatic awareness, while adaptive learning technologies enhance individualized instruction. However, significant barriers persist, including infrastructural inequalities, socio-economic disparities, and digital literacy gaps that constrain equitable access to pragmatic learning. Comparative studies suggest that learners in technologically advanced regions benefit more readily from these innovations than those in developing contexts. The discussion links these findings to pragmatic theory, emphasizing the role of systemic factors such as policy and infrastructure, and identifies the need for inclusive strategies to ensure equal opportunities. Recommendations include the development of longitudinal and cross-cultural research, as well as practical integration of advanced technologies into mainstream education. Overall, the study underscores the urgent need for combined strategies that integrate authenticity, intercultural awareness, personalization, and technological innovation to enhance pragmatic competence in digital communication.
