Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which toddlers have a shorter length or height compared to their age. This condition is measured by length or height being below minus two standard deviations of the median according to the WHO Child Growth Standards. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence the incidence of stunting in toddlers at working area of UPT Belawan Health Center, Medan City in 2025. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all mothers with toddlers aged 24–59 months, totaling 2,560 individuals. A random sampling technique was used to obtain 97 respondents, plus an additional 10% reserve, resulting in 107 participants. Data collection was done through questionnaires, with primary, secondary, and tertiary data sources. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses. The statistical tests applied included chi-square and multiple logistic regression. The findings revealed that exclusive breastfeeding duration (p = 0.013), the timing of complementary feeding (p = 0.002), birth weight (p = 0.001), sanitation (p = 0.004), and history of infectious diseases (p = 0.001) significantly influenced the incidence of stunting. The most dominant factor affecting stunting was the history of infectious diseases, with an Exp(B) value of 7.378. The study concluded that exclusive breastfeeding duration, timing of complementary feeding, birth weight, sanitation, and history of infectious diseases were significantly associated with stunting incidence in toddlers. It is suggested that the government, particularly health workers at public health centers, evaluate programs and enhance health promotion regarding stunting to reduce its prevalence in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Indonesian Adolescent Reproductive Health Survey reported that 33.2% of male adolescents and 9.1% of female adolescents had engaged in intimate touching, 53.8% of males and 36.7% of females had kissed, and 6.1% of males and 1.5% of females aged 15–19 years had experienced premarital sexual intercourse. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing risky sexual behavior among adolescents in Langsa. This study employed a mixed-methods design using an explanatory sequential approach. The quantitative phase involved 143 adolescents selected through total sampling. The qualitative phase included nine informants: four adolescents, one vice principal for student affairs, one guidance and counseling teacher, and three parents. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression, while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the chi-square test showed that attitude (p = 0.001), peer influence (p = 0.000), family role (p = 0.006), social media use (p = 0.000), and self-control (p = 0.003) were significantly associated with risky sexual behavior (p < 0.05). The most influential factor was social media use, with an odds ratio (OR) of 14.356. Qualitative findings supported these results, indicating that exposure to social media strongly influenced adolescents’ experiences and contributed to risky sexual behavior. In conclusion, attitude, peer influence, family role, social media use, and self-control significantly affect risky sexual behavior among adolescents in Langsa City. It is recommended that adolescents be more selective in their use of social media and strengthen their understanding of personal boundaries. Parents should improve communication and supervision, while schools should enhance reproductive health education through regular programs and counseling involving health professionals.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has made social media an essential part of adolescents’ lives, not only as a means of communication but also as a platform for self-exploration and access to information, including sexual content. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media use on adolescents’ sexual behavior. This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 320 adolescents, with a sample of 178 respondents selected using stratified random sampling based on the Slovin formula. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods. The results showed that there was a significant influence of social media usage intensity (p = 0.039), the role of teachers and parents (p = 0.014), and specific social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp (p = 0.001) on adolescents’ sexual behavior. Meanwhile, knowledge (p = 0.258) and attitudes (p = 0.835) did not show a significant influence. The most dominant variable affecting adolescents’ sexual behavior was the role of social media, with TikTok being the most influential platform. In conclusion, social media use and the social environment play an important role in shaping adolescents’ sexual behavior. Therefore, increased supervision and education from teachers and parents are necessary, along with strengthening digital literacy and reproductive health programs in schools as efforts to prevent risky sexual behavior among adolescents.
