Abstract

Abstract

Mathematical anxiety remains a major obstacle for junior high school students in learning mathematics. The present study applied a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) framework guided by the PRISMA approach to investigate the integration of cooperative learning and deep learning as a means of addressing mathematical anxiety. Searches were carried out across the Garuda and Google Scholar databases covering publications from 2020–2026, producing an initial pool of 129 articles, subsequently narrowed down to 6 studies that satisfied the inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed qualitatively using a narrative analysis technique by categorizing findings based on learning characteristics, the effects on mathematical anxiety, as well as the strengths and limitations of each approach. The results demonstrate that combining these two approaches fosters deeper learning by facilitating social interaction and consolidating conceptual understanding, which in turn contributes to alleviating students' mathematical anxiety. However, the practical implementation of this integration continues to encounter obstacles, most notably concerning instructional time allocation and the preparedness of both teachers and students. In light of these findings, the integration of cooperative learning and deep learning emerges as a viable and effective strategy for enhancing the quality of mathematics instruction while simultaneously mitigating students' mathematical anxiety.

Abstract

This study was conducted due to students’ low mathematical concept comprehension skills and social attitudes. The contributing factors include teacher-centered instruction and a lack of active student engagement in the learning process. Therefore, a learning approach is needed that can optimize brain function while actively involving students in the learning process. One approach that can be used is Brain-Based Learning (BBL), which is designed based on how the brain receives, processes, and stores information, thereby making learning more meaningful. The objectives of this study are to determine the effect of the Brain-Based Learning approach on students’ mathematical concept comprehension and social attitudes, as well as to determine its simultaneous effect on both variables. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 5 Cilegon using a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design of the pretest-posttest control group type. The sample consisted of 68 seventh-grade students selected using cluster random sampling. Research data were obtained from pretest and posttest assessments of mathematical concept comprehension, as well as initial and final scales of students’ social attitudes. The results of the study indicate that: (1) Learning using the Brain-Based Learning approach has a positive effect on students’ mathematical concept comprehension, (2) Learning using the Brain-Based Learning approach has a positive effect on students’ social attitudes, and (3) Learning using the Brain-Based Learning approach has a positive effect on both students’ mathematical concept comprehension and social attitudes simultaneously.

Abstract

Low mathematical conceptual understanding at the secondary education level demands innovative learning strategies. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Game-Based Learning (GBL) on students' mathematical conceptual understanding through a systematic literature review. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA 2020 protocol. Data were collected from Google Scholar databases using the Publish or Perish application within the 2021 – early 2026 period. Out of 123 identified articles, 11 experimental articles met the inclusion criteria for in-depth analysis. The results indicate that the application of GBL, particularly through platforms such as Quizizz and Wordwall, exerts a significant positive influence (p < 0.05) on students' conceptual understanding. This improvement is evidenced by various measurement indicators in the reviewed literature, including N-Gain scores in the medium to high categories, as well as significant mean differences. Features like instant feedback and visualization capabilities in game-based media are proven to help students grasp abstract concepts more interactively. In conclusion, GBL has the potential to be an effective alternative learning strategy for strengthening students' mathematical conceptual mastery in secondary schools and is recommended as an alternative learning media in the classroom.

Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking is an essential skill that supports students in generating diverse ideas and solutions in mathematics learning. However, this skill remains relatively low among students. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in improving students’ mathematical creative thinking skills through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, including the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion. Relevant studies were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria focusing on the implementation of PBL in mathematics education and its impact on mathematical creative thinking. The findings indicate that PBL effectively enhances students’ mathematical creative thinking skills by encouraging active engagement in problem-solving, idea exploration, and the development of multiple solution strategies. Furthermore, PBL promotes key indicators of creative thinking, including fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Therefore, PBL can be considered an effective learning model for fostering students’ mathematical creative thinking skills.
