Abstract

The teaching and learning process in the mathematics undergraduate program emphasizes on the use of an axiomatic system and formal deduction. In this process, the students learn continuously about mathematical evidence, which can be referred to as the ability to build arguments based on their mathematical understanding. This article aims at describing the characteristics of students comprehension in constructing a mathematical evidence. A qualitative approach is applied in this study, which involves third-year students of Mathematics Education Department at the state university in Banten. Interviews are conducted to find out and clarify how the students construct and build mathematical evidence. The result shows that the students mathematical proof of comprehension can be classified into three types: holistic-global, partial-global, and partial-local. It is expected that the result of the study can be used as a source of consideration in determining appropriate learning strategies that can overcome students difficulties in constructing a mathematical evidence.

Abstract

Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah mengetahui capaian pemahaman konsep calon guru matematika yang menggunakan pembelajaran Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA). Penelitian ini merupakan studi kuasi-eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol non ekivalen. Sampel penelitian adalah calon guru matematika di Jurusan Pendidikan Matematika, dengan sampel penelitian sebanyak dua kelompok yaitu semester I.B sebagai kelompok eksperimen sebanyak 37 mahasiswa dan semester I.C sebagai kelompok kontrol sebanyak 40 mahasiswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa tes uraian kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis, dan lembar observasi. Dengan menggunakan uji perbedaan dua rerata diperoleh hasil bahwa pencapaian pemahaman konsep calon guru matematika yang memperoleh pembelajaran Concrete Representation Abstract (CRA) lebih baik daripada calon guru matematika yang memperoleh pembelajaran biasa.The purpose of this study was to determine the achievement of conceptual understanding of prospective mathematics teachers using Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA) learning. This research is a quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The subject of the study consists of 77 pre-service teachers in the Department of Mathematics Education. The students were divided into two classrooms, experimental (37) and control (40). The research instrument used in the form of a test description of the ability to understand mathematical concepts, and observation sheets. The results show that the achievement of the conceptual understanding of pre-service mathematics teachers who get Concrete Representation Abstract (CRA) learning model is better than pre-service mathematics teachers who get instruction without CRA model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effects of scientific-based learning strategy (images media and lecture method) and students’ learning motivation towards the students’ achievement of learning science. This research applied 2 x 2 factorial design, a type ofquasi-experimental design. Results are as follows: (1) there are differences in the students’ achievement of learning science between students who are taught using thescientific-basedlearning strategy withimages media and students who are taught usingscientific-basedlearning strategywith lecture method, (2) there are differences in the students’ achievement of learning science between students who have a strong learning motivation and students who have a weak learning motivation, (3) For students who have a strong learning motivation, whether the students’ achievement of learning science are higher when taught withscientific-based learning strategywith images media than with the lecture method, (4) For students who have a weak learning motivation, are the results of learning science higher when taught with the scientific-based learning strategy with lecture method compared to thescientific-basedlearning strategy withimages media, (5) there is an interaction between scientific-based learning strategyand students’ learning motivation towards students’ achievement of learning science.Keywords: Scientific Based Learning, students’ learning motivation, students’ achievement of learning science

Abstract

This research aimed to examine student’s mathematical connection ability based on previous ability and gender. The instruments of the study were the researcher as the main instrument, the test of prior knowledge, the test of connection ability, interview and documentation. The triangulation technique was used for the data (test, observation, interview, and documentation). The subject of this research were six students representing each category of the previous ability. Three indicators of mathematical connection ability used in this research, namely: connections between mathematical topics, connections with the science other than mathematics, and connection with life. The results showed that 1) high-ability male subject had high levels of mathematical connection ability on indicators of connection with life, 2) high-ability female subject had high level of mathematical connection ability on indicators of connection with the science other than mathematics, 3) medium-ability male subject had high levels of mathematical connection ability on indicators between topics mathematics, 4) medium-ability female subject had high levels of mathematical connection ability on indicators between topics mathematics, 5) low-ability male subject had high levels of mathematical connection ability on indicators between topics mathematics, 6) low-ability female subject had high levels of mathematical connection ability on indicators between topics mathematics.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the influence of Numbered Heads Together learning model with worked-example strategy for the students's mathematical reasoning skills. This method of research was quasi-exsperiment with Nonequivalent design Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. The subject in this study was the X class of MIA 2 as the experimental class and X MIA 4 as the control class.  The instrument used is a test instrument of mathematical reasoning ability of students. Analysis of hypotheses data using t test, which is through the prerequisite test of normality and homogeneity. The results of this study, Numbered Heads Together learning model with worked-example strategy, have a better influence on reasoning ability than conventional learning models.

Abstract

This research is conducted by the low mathematics critical thinking ability of students in junior high schools, especially in  VII grade .Students of VII grade commonly are transitioning from elementary school to junior high school could be a reason how low students of VII grade on mathematic critical thingking ability. The low ability mathematics critical thingking one of caused by mathematics anxiety. This study aims to find a relationship between math anxiety and mathematics critical thinking ability of VII grade at SMPN 5 Serang City. The method of this research is quantitative descriptive by making 110 students from VII grade as a sample. The data were collected using questionnaire and test. The result of this study indicate that 1) the ammount of correlation between math anxiety with critical thingking ability is -0,5991> rs table 0,1695, which means there is a significant and negative relationship between anxiety and critical thingking ability 2) the average of students’s mathematics critical thingking ability is different where score between students with low anxiety have a better score than student with mid anxiety and low anxiety,and students with mid anxiety have a better score than students with high anxiety, and students with mid anxiety have a better score than students with high anxiety.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pencapaian kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan minat belajar siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan model PBL menggunakan NHT lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran ekspositori. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian the matching only pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 9 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2018/2019 semester genap. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling untuk memilih dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan non-tes skala minat belajar siswa. Pengujian hipotesis dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji-t dengan taraf signifikansi 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pencapaian kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis dan minat belajar siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran model PBL menggunakan NHT lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran ekspositori.

Abstract

Pemecahan masalah matematis dapat dimaknai sebagai kegiatan untuk melakukan penyelesaian masalah non-rutin yang sifatnya matematis dengan membutuhkan pengetahuan sebelumnya untuk menyelesaikannya. Pembelajaran penemuan terbimbing dapat menjadi alternatif yang dapat diterapkan yang menempatkan pembelajaran di antara siswa dan guru. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk melihat pengaruh pembelajaran penemuan terbimbing dan kemampuan awal matematis terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode kuasi eksperimen. Sampel penelitan ini adalah siswa kelas XI IPA disalah satu SMA di Kabupaten Lebak provinsi Banten. Instrumen pemecahan masalah matematis merujuk dari Sumarmo (2006) dengan empat indikator pemecahan masalah matemtis. Pengujian statistik menggunakan anova dua jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukan adanya pengaruh model pembelajaran penemuan terbimbing terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis. Siswa dengan KAM di atas rata-rata lebih baik dari siswa KAM di bawah rata-rata dalam capaian pemecahan masalah matematis. Pengaruh pembelajaran penemuan terbimbing lebih baik dari pembelajaran konvensional dalam capaian kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis signifikan pada siswa dengan KAM atas, sedangkan siswa dengan KAM bawah belum menunjukan pengaruh yang berbeda. Kata Kunci : kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis, pembelajaran penemuan terbimbing, kemampuan awal matematis.
