Abstract

This research aimed to examine the use of Joox application as a media in teaching listening skill at the eleventh grade of SMK La-Tahzan Munjul in academic year 2022/2023. This research used quantitative approach with quasi experimental method. Achievement test is used in collecting the data, included pre-test and pot-test. Joox application is used as a teaching learning media. The population of this research is the eleventh grade of SMK La-Tahzan Munjul Pandeglang in academic year 2022/2023. The sample of this research is class XI Software Engineering and XI Computer and Network Technique, each class consists of 26 students. The researcher conducted the data by giving the test to both classes. The form of the test is multiple choice and error recognition with 25 total numbers of question given. The result of the research showed any improvement in learning outcomes through the use of Joox application as a media in English subject. It can be seen from the result of T-test by obtaining an average result 37.8 for pre-test and 77.4 for post-test in experimental class, by comparing T-count with T-table, because T-table is bigger than T-count or 1,706 > -26,955, then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. As a result, there is a significant improvement of using Joox Application on the students’ listening skill at the eleventh grade of SMK La-Tahzan Munjul Pandeglang in academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

This research deals with An Analysis of Slang Words in Fast and Furious 9 Movie. The purpose of this study was to determine the type and meaning of the slang used in Fast and Furious 9 movie. The data source is taken from the script Fast and Furious 9 movie. The Fast and Furious 9 movie classified as American action movie released in April 2017 and directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Chris Morgan. The research design used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research is described one by one slang words are found from the film Fast and Furious 9 movie by using dictionaries and theories related to slang. From the analysis, there are two types of slang, namely society slang and public house slang. There are 24 word of society slang and 6 word of public house slang. Then the slang word in the form of words and phrases are classified and analyzed. These findings suggest that there are several slang words and phrases in Fast and Furious 9 movie that have been classified into a type of slang. Examples as well as slang words that often appear are Shit, Damn it, Guys.Buddy and Bro. This study is expected to contribute to the reader to found out about slang clearly. This can help readers speak English fluently. And it can too is expected to enrich new English vocabulary used in everyday conversation.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate a significant Effect of Riddle Game Toward Student's Vocabulary Mastery at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 1 Cihara Lebak Banten in Academic Year 2023/2024. The research used the quantitative approach and quasi-experimental design. This research used two classes, they are control class and experimental class. The technique in choosing the sample is cluster random sampling, the researcher used VIII A (34 students) as experimental class and VIII B (33 students) as control class. The experimental group was taught by Riddle Game, while the control group was taught by Crassword Puzzle Game. In the technique Collecting of the data, the researcher gives pre-test and post-test. The score pre-test of control group are 2274, the score pre-test of experimental class are 2324. Then, the score post-test of control group are 2552, the score post-test of experimental group are 2842. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS 25 statistical computation and used the result of the post-test both control class and experimental class to analyze the hypotheses test. The finding showed that the result of Significant two-tailed = 0.000 Therefore, the researcher concluded that the usage of Riddle Game has a significant impact on students vocabulary mastery in SMPN 1 Cihara Lebak Banten.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the significant effect of using TikTok application towards students’ speaking skill at the tenth grade students of SMKN 5 Pandeglang in academic year 2022/2023. The research used the quantitative approach and quasi-experimental design. This research was conducted from May to June. The researcher has chosen two classes as sample. They are control class and experimental class. The technique in choosing the sample is cluster random sampling, the researcher used X RPL 1 (35 students) as control class and X RPL 2 (35 students) as experimental class. The experimental class was taught by using TikTok application, whereas the control class was taught by using YouTube application. In technique of Collecting the data, the researcher gives pre-test and post-test. The total score of pre-test at control class is 1965. Meanwhile, the total score of the post-test at control class is 2320. The total score of the pre-test at experimental class is 2115. Meanwhile, the total score of the post-test at experimental class is 2335. The mean of the pre-test at control class is 56,14. Meanwhile, the mean of the post-test at control class is 66,29. Then, the mean of the pre-test at experimental class is 60,43. Meanwhile, the mean of the post-test at experimental class is 66,71. In managing the data, the researcher used SPSS 29 statistical computation and used the result of the post-test both class control and experimental to analyze the hypotheses test. The researcher has found the result of Significant two-tailed = 0.000 < α 0.05. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the usage of TikTok application has a significant impact on students’ speaking skill in SMKN 5 Pandeglang.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to obtain empirical evidence about the effect of SQ3R technique in the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. The method used in this research was quantitative method and the research design was quasi-experimental. The samples of this study were 70 students of the tenth grade of SMAN 1 Cihara in the Academic year 2022. There are two classes of this research, namely X3 as the experimental class and XI as the control class. Each class consisted of 35 students. The experimental class was taught by using SQ3R strategies, while the control class was taught by using skimming strategies. The result of this research showed that there was effect of SQ3R strategies towards students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. The finding was supported by the result of the hypothesis testing by using paired sample t-test in SPSS 22 for windows showed the value of t calculation > t-table 11.756 in experimental class. The significance value is less than 0.05 (p=0.00< 0.05 in experimental class). It was concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concludes that there is a significant effect of SQ3R strategies on reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the significant effect of Berlitz Method towards Students' Vocabulary Mastery at the eighth Grade of Junior High School Berdikari Cijaku Lebak Banten in academic year 2023/2024. This research used a quantitative approach and quasi-experimental design. This research used two classes, namely the control class and the experimental class. The sample collecting technique is cluster random sampling. The researcher used class VII A (20 students) as the experimental class and class VII B (20 students) as the control class. The experimental class was taught using the Berlitz Method, while the control group was taught using Talking sticks. In the data collection technique, the researcher gave a pre-test and post-test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS 25 statistical calculations and post-test results of control and experimental classes to analyze hypothesis testing. Researchers found two-sided significant results = 0.000 < α 0.05. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the use of the Berlitz method had a significant impact on student's vocabulary mastery at SMP Berdikari Cijaku Lebak-Banten.

Abstract

Writing as a complex process that students must go through in order to communicate what is on their minds and then represent it in the form of text when studying English. The purpose of this research article was to analyze students' errors in writing analytical exposition texts for Indonesian senior high school students. The article employed a qualitative research design with descriptive research characteristics. Methods of data collection included observation, interviews, and documentation. Observation, interviews, and documentation were used as instruments. The information was gathered during three meetings. The interview with the teacher took place before the observation, and the interview with the students took place after the analysis of the student's worksheets. From the findings of the article, it can be informed that the errors made by students fall into the categories of omission error, addition error, misformation error, and misordering error. There were 67 total errors, including 54 omission errors with an omission error percentage of 80.59 percent, seven addition errors with a percentage of 10,44 percent, six misordering errors with an omission error percentage of 8,95 percent, and no error in misformation. The most common error made by students was omission error, followed by addition, misordering, and misformation errors. This was due to students' lack of vocabulary mastery, as well as their incorrect use of grammar and structure. This article suggests that teachers should be more innovative in their use of various teaching strategies, as well as should be more interactive and communicative with their students. The students, should be serious and pay attention to the teacher's explanation during the teaching and learning process, they should explore more vocabulary, do many exercises, and reduce their chances of making errors.

Abstract

The aim of this research is the significant effect of the Wattpad application significantly improves the reading comprehension abilities of class X students at SMAN 2 Malingping. Using a pre-test and post-test group design, the methodology used is quasi-experimental, and the research methodology is quantitative. The population of this research was 94 students, and the sample was 60 students. In analyzing the data, researcher used achievement tests with SPSS 25 statistical computing to analyze hypothesis tests. Researcher obtained tcount results (0.285) and two-sided significance = 0.465 < α 0.05. From this data it can be interpreted that there is a significant difference between the two groups in obtaining scores, because the result is a significant value grether than 0.05, which means Ha is accepted. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the application of Wattpad had a good role in students' reading comprehension skills of report texts. Apart from that, the Wattpad application, apart from being effective in learning to read, can also be used as a medium for reading online books because the Wattpad application has free space for communication between teachers and students as well as between students and other teachers use the comments column provided.

Abstract

This research is about analysis of phrase functions in "Dream" by Babymonster song lyrics using Nelson & Greenbaum theory. The goal of this research is to analyze the phrases functions found in Dream by Babymonster song lyrics. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. The primary data were the song lyrics, categorized into noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, adverb phrases, and prepositional phrases based on Nelson & Greenbaum's theory. The data analysis involved transcribing the lyrics, segmenting them into phrases, and determining their functions. The finding showed that noun phrases act as subjects, objects, and complements; verb phrases function as predicates; adjective phrases serve as complements and pre-modifiers; adverb phrases act as adverbials; and prepositional phrases function as post-modifiers and adverbials. This research provides insights into the syntactical structures and stylistic choices in "Dream."

Abstract

This research is about a syntactical analysis of phrases in song lyrics of Dream by Babymonster wuth using Bottom-up tree diagram by Carnie. This research aims to analyze the type and the sum of phrases used in Dream by Babymonster song lyrics. This research used a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique in this research involved observation, documentation, and checklists. The finding showed that data had all types of phrases based on theory of Carnie, such as noun phrase, verb phrase, adjective phrase, adverb phrase, and prepositional phrase. All phrases found amounted to 150. Those are 65 noun phrases, 51 verb phrases, 16 adverb phrases, 11 prepositional phrases, and 7 adjective phrases. This research can be a contribution in teaching materials, particularly those related to phrases in Syntax subject.
