Abstract

The success of diabetes prevention is influenced by several factors, including access to information, family support, diet, activity patterns, nutritional status, and self-efficacy. These factors play a significant role in the self-care practices of individuals with diabetes. Self-care refers to actions taken by patients to improve their ability to meet their daily needs independently, enabling them to prevent and manage their illness and adhere to treatment and recommendations provided by healthcare services. This study aims to identify the self-care practices of individuals with diabetes. The research involved 40 respondents diagnosed with diabetes. The average self-care score among diabetic patients in the working area of Banjar Baru Selatan Community Health Center was 68.53, with the lowest score being 39 and the highest score 92. Establishing self-care behaviors as part of a cultural norm requires consistent repetition and routine, to the extent that these behaviors may eventually become secondary needs. One approach to cultivating such habits in individuals with diabetes is to focus on addressing their weaknesses through methods that align with their routines and learning patterns. This strategy can help foster motivation and enthusiasm in managing their condition.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus has been proven to be associated with cognitive decline and an increased risk of dementia. Exercise, both physical activity and brain training, as a non-pharmacological intervention, has the potential to improve cognitive function. Objective to investigate the effect of physical activity on cognitive impairment in patients with diabetes mellitus. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method was used to select articles. The JBI critical appraisal checklist was used for quality assessment. Articles were searched through PubMed, Medline, and ScienceDirect databases from 2014 to 2024, using full-text articles. Out of 507 articles identified, 13 articles were included in the review, selected through a screening process based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, and all demonstrated that physical activity, cognitive training, combined training, and training with lifestyle modifications can improve cognitive function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Exercise programs such as aerobic exercise, combined training, or other more specific exercises have been proven to improve cognitive function and metabolic indicators in patients with diabetes mellitus, such as HbA1c levels and insulin resistance. However, the majority of study participants were older adults.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a serious long-term or chronic condition that occurs when there is an increase in blood glucose levels due to the body's inability to produce enough insulin or effectively use the insulin it produces. In patients with Diabetes Mellitus, sexual dysfunction is a frequently overlooked complication, despite significantly impacting quality of life. Female sexual dysfunction is defined as a persistent or recurrent decrease in sexual desire, persistent or recurrent decrease in sexual arousal, dyspareunia, and difficulty or inability to achieve orgasm. Several variables influence sexual dysfunction, including depression, anxiety, physical problems, marital issues, and medication side effects. Additionally, social and cultural norms related to diabetes and sexuality can lead to feelings of guilt, stigma, and low self-esteem. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze the effectiveness of counseling therapy on sexual dysfunction in women with diabetes mellitus. This article conducted a search of electronic database sources including Science Direct, Springer Link, Proquest, and Scopus, published from 2014 to 2024, using several keywords: (Female Sexual Dysfunction And Diabetes Mellitus And FSFI And Counseling). Results : Based on the analysis of four articles, there is a positive relationship between counseling therapy and sexual dysfunction in women with diabetes mellitus. Conclusion and Recommendations : Holistic counseling therapy that addresses various physical, psychological, cultural aspects, and individual temperament can improve sexual function, thereby enhancing patients' quality of life. Therefore, it is important for healthcare providers to consider counseling therapy as part of the care plan for women experiencing sexual dysfunction due to diabetes.

Abstract

Clinical judgment is a critical and multifaceted process essential for ICU nurses, integrating technical expertise and interpersonal skills to ensure safe, effective patient care. Clinical judgment, recognized as a core competency in intensive care nursing, requires further conceptual clarity. This study aimed to define and analyze the concept of clinical judgment in ICU nurses using Walker and Avant’s eight-step concept analysis method. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across databases including CINAHL, Medline, Scopus, ProQuest, SpringerLink, ClinicalKey Nursing, EMBASE, ScienceDirect, EBSCOhost, and Google Scholar, covering publications from 1994 to 2024. The analysis identified key attributes of clinical judgment: clinical knowledge, critical thinking, practical wisdom, data prioritization, intuition, scientific analysis, evidence use, and interaction. Antecedents included education, knowledge, experience, analytical ability, and the nursing process. Consequences of clinical judgment were accurate responses, reflective practice, safe nursing care, and improved patient safety. Decision-making was identified as the primary empirical referent. This concept analysis demonstrates that clinical judgment in ICU nurses is developed through a synthesis of critical thinking, clinical expertise, and situational experience, reinforcing its significance in the delivery of high-quality critical care.

Abstract

Background: Bone cancer patients undergoing hospitalization require support to manage physical challenges for optimal healing and recovery. The physical aspects experienced by the patients significantly affect their physical well-being. Addressing these aspects is essential for nurses in providing care. However, comprehensive assessments of bone cancer patients’ physical needs have not been thoroughly explored. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the physical well-being needs of patients with bone cancer undergoing hospitalization. Methods: This qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted among 14 bone cancer patients selected through purposive sampling. The criteria included patients with a primary cancer diagnosis, undergoing hospitalization at a cancer center, and having good orientation and verbal communication abilities. In-depth interviews were employed to delve into the patients’ well-being needs. To triangulate the data, 12 cancer nurses were involved. Data analysis utilized the Creswell method. Results: This study found chronic pain and bone lumps as fundamental physical challenges, leading to disruptions in physical movement, sleep disturbances, and dependency on others for self-care. Six themes emerged regarding the physical well-being needs of hospitalized bone cancer patients: goals and needs for physical well-being, need for pain management, need for physical mobility, need for sleep and rest, need for self-care, and the meaning of physical well-being for patients. Physical well-being provides a significant meaning in achieving nursing goals. Conclusion: This study shows the significance of addressing pain management, physical mobility, sleep and rest, and self-care for the physical well-being of bone cancer patients. Nurses should be able to identify various physical complaints and help improve the physical well-being of bone cancer patients.
