Abstract

Abstract

Tilapia fillets are very susceptible to quality degradation. Therefore, efforts need to be made to maintain the quality of tilapia fillets with preservation methods using natural materials such as rice washing water waste. Rice washing water added with vinegar can grow lactic acid bacteria (LAB) through a fermentation process where LAB can fight spoilage bacteria in processed fishery products. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of optimal vinegar concentration in rice washing water fermentation solution to extend the shelf life of tilapia fillets based on the number of bacteria and pH during low temperature storage. The research method used in this study is a descriptive method. The treatment used was the addition of 0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% vinegar solution and stored at low temperatures (5°-10). The parameters measured included the number of bacterial colonies and the degree of acidity (pH). Concentration 0% observations were made on days 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 while for concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2% observations were made on days 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. The results showed that the fermentation solution of rice washing water with the addition of 1% vinegar concentration was the best for extending shelf life. The treatment of 1% vinegar concentration can maintain the quality of red tilapia fillets until the 11th day with a total of 5.6×107 bacteria and a pH value of 6.70.

Abstract

Red Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fillet is a highly nutritious aquaculture product but is prone to spoilage, thus requiring environmentally friendly preservation innovations. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fermented rice washing water with varying vinegar concentrations on the organoleptic characteristics of red tilapia fillets during cold storage. The research was conducted experimentally at the Laboratory of Fishery Product Technology, Universitas Padjadjaran, using five vinegar concentration treatments (0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2%), and organoleptic parameters observed included appearance, odor, mucus, and texture. Data were analyzed using the Friedman test and Bayesian analysis. The results showed that the treatments significantly affected fillet shelf life, particularly in maintaining appearance and mucus up to day 11 of storage. The 1% vinegar concentration was identified as the most effective treatment in preserving fillet freshness during refrigeration. In general, the combination of fermented rice washing water and vinegar can serve as a natural preservative alternative to extend the shelf life of fishery products.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the addition and optimal dose of probiotics on the growth performance and health of snakehead fish (channa striata) seeds in the budikdamber system. The budikdamber system is an innovation in fisheries cultivation in limited land that is easy to apply at home by the community at an affordable cost. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments of probiotic doses and a control without probiotics, with each treatment repeated three times. The treatments used were (A) without the addition of probiotics (control), (B) the addition of probiotics as much as 0.6 ml/L of water, (C) the addition of probiotics as much as 0.8 ml/L of water, (D) the addition of probiotics as much as 1.0 ml/L of water, and (E) the addition of probiotics as much as 1.2 ml/L of water which were maintained for 40 days. The test fish used were 5-6 cm in size and weighed 1-2 grams. The container used was a plastic bucket with a volume of 80 liters with a water volume of 70 liters where the snakehead fish were placed with a stocking density according to the treatment. The amount of feed given was 5% of the fish biomass. The results obtained during the study showed that treatment C with the addition of probiotics as much as 0.8 ml/L of water produced the highest absolute length growth of 2.71±0.05 cm, the highest absolute weight growth of 2.87±0.27 grams, a specific growth rate of 1.69±0.02%, survival of 89±0.03%, the number of erythrocytes 1,356,800±0.02 and the number of leukocytes 120,617±0.07.

Abstract

Tilapia salin (Oreochromis niloticus) is one type of fish for consumption that has economic value and quite high market demand in Indonesia because of its savory meat taste (Baihaqi et al. 2024). In fisheries cultivation, one important aspect in fish farming activities is feed management. This is because it can affect the growth rate of fish and the resulting feed conversion ratio (FCR) value (Budayati et al. 2023). The feed conversion ratio (FCR) value is one of the parameters used to assess the efficiency of feed utilization by fish. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literature review approach that examines and describes the results of previous studies regarding the effect of cultivation methods on the feed conversion ratio (FCR) value in tilapia salin (Oreochromis niloticus) in Indonesia. This study shows that the cultivation method has a significant effect on the feed conversion ratio (FCR) value in tilapia salin (Oreochromis niloticus). The biofloc system provides the best efficiency with the lowest FCR value (up to 1.07), followed by the recirculation system (RAS) and floating net cages (KJA) with relatively low and stable FCR values. In contrast, the pond system shows the most variable FCR values, even tending to be high, especially if water quality and feed management are not maintained.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an aquarium-based Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system compared to a monoculture system. The research was conducted from November to December 2024 at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications, involving combinations of guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata), Egeria densa aquatic plants, Ramshorn snails (Planorbella duryi), and Orange Rili shrimp (Neocaridina davidi). Parameters observed included water quality (pH, DO, nitrate, phosphate, turbidity, temperature), organism growth, benefit-cost ratio (BCR), and aesthetic value using a 1–5 scale. The results showed that Treatment E (combining fish, plants, snails, and shrimp) provided the best performance, with the most stable water quality, highest organism growth, highest BCR, and an average aesthetic score of 4.89. The IMTA system was shown to improve resource efficiency, reduce biological waste, and enhance the visual appeal of aquarium-based aquaculture. These findings support the application of aquarium-scale IMTA as a sustainable aquaculture model that is ecologically, economically, and aesthetically adaptive.
