Abstract

The concept of state digital-surveillance has been recognized as a significant factor impacting individual privacy and social dynamics, drawing greater attention in sociological literature. However, existing studies often examine digital surveillance, social control, and privacy in isolation, and there is limited empirical research establishing clear causal links between state digital-surveillance and its broader societal impacts. As a result, there is a need for a confirmatory study that addresses this gap. The literature on the relationship between state digital-surveillance and its effects on privacy and autonomy remains fragmented, with few comprehensive studies exploring how surveillance practices shape societal structures. This scoping review utilizes the PCC model of PRISMA guidelines to investigate these connections. It focuses on the causal relationship between state digital-surveillance, individual freedoms, and societal control, providing an overview of existing literature and identifying areas for further research. Specifically, this review highlights the intersection of digital surveillance and social behavior, offering insights that map the complex linkages between state digital-surveillance and its effects on modern society.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve the professional competence of Muhammadiyah teachers through mentoring lesson study with the stages of plan, do, and see. This competency improvement is needed because the quality of teachers in Palembang, especially Muhammadiyah teachers, still needs to be considered higher due to the lack of training to improve teacher competence. The newly formed Muhammadiyah Teacher Forum can be a place to make this happen. This community service activity is carried out offline and online, namely offline during the debriefing of lesson study materials and online during monitoring and discussion of the implementation of activities. The results of community service activities based on monitoring results found problems at each stage of lesson study (plan, do, see) that have been given solutions. Based on the results of the evaluation, the problems experienced by teachers are becoming less and less and Muhammadiyah teachers in the city of Palembang routinely conduct lesson study discussions through the Muhammadiyah teacher forum.

Abstract

Technological advancements have rapidly impacted society, transforming the way gadgets are utilized for social interaction. Among students, the use of gadgets for socializing has been on the rise. However, differences in interaction patterns between gadget-mediated and face-to-face interactions have yet to be fully understood. Therefore, this study aims to investigate student social interaction activities through gadgets and in real-life settings. Additionally, the research explores social interaction patterns and experiences among students at SMA IT Plus Bina Bangsa Sejahtera Bogor, a high school that initially prohibited smartphone use during learning but later modified their policy prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, utilizing observation, documentation, and interviews with 30 randomly selected respondents. The study was conducted over a two-month period, from January to February 2023, at SMA IT Plus Bina Bangsa Sejahtera Bogor. The analysis reveals that gadget-mediated interaction patterns involve cooperation, accommodation, assimilation, acculturation, competition, and opposition. Prolonged gadget usage for extended hours was observed, emphasizing their significance in students' lives. Interpretation of gadget-mediated text messages sometimes leads to misunderstandings. However, communication differences between virtual and face-to-face interactions were minimal, as both modes effectively addressed problems. This research deepens our understanding of student social interaction dynamics and highlights the impact of gadget usage on interpersonal communication. It provides insights for schools, families, and policymakers to enhance positive gadget usage and improve the quality of student interactions.

Abstract

Abstract

Warjabakti Village is a village where the majority of the population works as vegetable farmers. However, these agricultural products have not been able to help them achieve a prosperous standard of living. For this reason, a community development program was formed through commodity transformation in the form of orange planting. The theory used in this study is the structural theory of Anthony Giddens. Through this theory, the researcher aims to determine the duality between agents and structures in agricultural commodity transformation. In addition, this study also aims to find out the challenges faced by agents in creating change. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The data collection techniques in this study were carried out using non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation.  The results obtained from this study are that the duality between agents and structures can create changes that have the potential to increase farmers' income through the planting of new commodities. This shows that farmers, as agents, play an important role not only as objects but also as subjects of development. Through their consciousness, agents seek to create change through the reproduction of empowering structures. However, this change has not been fully felt because there are various challenges for farmers to create sustainability from the planned program.

Abstract

The phenomenon of working mothers balancing dual roles as professionals and homemakers is a significant concern within the media industry context, including those working in online media, Kompas.com. This study aims to understand how working mothers in Kompas.com manage these two roles. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The data was collected through in-depth interviews with three informants from Megapolitan's editorial division. The results show that informants play a professional role at the “front stage” as self-disciplined, target-oriented, and communicative workers, while doubling as homemakers “backstage” who take care of children and the household. An analysis using Erving Goffman's dramaturgy theory shows that they balance these roles and identities by utilizing impression management. This study shows that working mothers in the media industry are active actors who develop social strategies to play their dual roles, highlighting the importance of support for women in both the workplace and the household.

Abstract

Community development programs cannot be separated from dynamics that can threaten the sustainability of the program. Therefore, evaluation activities are important to ensure the effectiveness of the program. Different from previous studies that focused evaluation on program structure, this study aims to focus on the actors involved and the accompanying social capital in order to build a program with a strong foundation. Robert D. Putnam's Social Capital Theory is used to analyze the network, trust, and social norms of actors in program implementation. Meanwhile, James Copestake and Richard Walker's Theory of Change is used as the basis for analyzing changes and impacts caused by the program based on input, output, outcome, and impact. This study was conducted on a community development program in Warjabakti Village which used qualitative methods to describe problems with interviews and observations as primary data. Meanwhile, literature and documentation studies were used as secondary data. Then, data validity was tested through source triangulation. The results of the study showed that the formation of a development program in Warjabakti Village with a weak social capital foundation was an input that ultimately affected the sustainability of the program which could not be sustained and even had an impact at every stage of change. This has an impact that can hinder the achievement of Village SDGs in the form of the community being closed to cooperation, especially in achieving point 8 "Equitable Village Economic Growth."
