Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of applying Cognitive Behavior Modification (CBM) using the self-instruction technique in reducing academic procrastination behavior among students of Madrasah Aliyah Sehati Maros. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 20 students divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected using an academic procrastination scale developed based on Ferrari’s theory and were supported by observations and interviews conducted during the intervention process. Data analysis techniques included descriptive analysis, normality tests, homogeneity tests, t-tests, and effect size calculations. The results showed that the level of academic procrastination in the experimental group decreased significantly from the high category in the pretest to the low category in the posttest, while the control group remained in the high category. These findings indicate that the application of the Cognitive Behavior Modification approach with the self-instruction technique is effective and significant in reducing academic procrastination behavior among students. This study provides practical implications for guidance and counseling services in madrasahs in developing cognitive-behavioral–based interventions to enhance students’ learning discipline and academic responsibility.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low self-esteem experienced by some students at SMA Negeri 10 Jeneponto. This condition is characterized by a lack of self-confidence, fear of expressing opinions, and a tendency to perceive their own abilities negatively, which may hinder students’ academic and social development. This study aimed to examine the effect of Siri’ na Pacce culture-based group guidance with the reframing technique on improving students’ self-esteem. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 20 eleventh-grade students, comprising 10 students in the experimental group and 10 students in the control group. Data were collected through a self-esteem scale and observation and were analyzed using an independent samples t-test with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that Siri’ na Pacce culture-based group guidance with the reframing technique had a significant effect on improving students’ self-esteem, as indicated by a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and an average gain score increase of 25.5 points in the experimental group. Therefore, it can be concluded that Siri’ na Pacce culture-based group guidance with the reframing technique is effective in improving students’ self-esteem. Abstract

Truancy behavior is a form of school discipline violation that has negative impacts on students’ academic, social, and psychological development. This study aims to describe the patterns of truancy behavior, identify its contributing factors and impacts, and analyze efforts to address truancy through a behavioral counseling approach using the behavior contract technique. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study design involving two eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Belopa, Luwu Regency, who consistently exhibited truancy behavior. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students’ truancy behavior was characterized by a high frequency of unexcused absences and a tendency to skip specific subjects. The contributing factors included internal factors such as low learning motivation, difficulty understanding lessons, and perceived excessive academic workload, as well as external factors including a lack of family attention and peer influence. The impacts of truancy were evident in declining academic achievement, social problems, psychological stress, and unclear future planning. The implementation of individual counseling using the behavior contract technique showed positive changes, as indicated by a decrease in truancy frequency and an improvement in students’ school attendance. This study recommends the application of the behavior contract technique as an effective alternative intervention in guidance and counseling services to address students’ truancy behavior.
