Abstract

Tumbuhan sungkai (Paronema canescens Jack)  merupakan salah satu tumbuhan obat tradisional yang telah digunakan  untuk pengobatan berbagai penyakit.  Penggunaan suatu tumbuhan obat harus teruji keamanannya, terutama untuk penggunaan jangka panjang.  Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan uji  toksisitas subkronis ekstrak etanol  daun P. canescens menggunakan  30 ekor tikus  putih jantan Rattus noverticus (Wistar strain), Penelitian ini menggunakan 5 kelompok hewan terdiri dari kelompok kontrol, kelompok perlakuan dosis 100, 200, 400, dan 800 mg/kg berat badan (bb) . Percobaan  dilakukan selama 28 hari. Parameter yang diamati meliputi hematologi darah, biokimia darah, makroskopik organ, berat organ relatif dan histopatologi organ hati dan ginjal. Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan  tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p>0.05) antara kelompok kontrol dengan kelompok perlakuan untuk semua parameter hematologi maupun biokimia darah.  Analisa histopatologi juga menunjukkan tidak terdapat gejala kerusakan pada organ hati dan ginjal.  Hal ini mengindikasikan ekstrak daun sungkai tidak memberikan efek toksik pada hewan uji.

Abstract

Pelatihan pemanfaatan limbah organik dari sisa rumah tangga, pekarangan dan perkebunan menjadi bokashi sebagai media tanam berbagai jenis sayuran, buah-buahan dan tanaman telah dilaksanakan di Desa Tanjung Pering, Ogan Ilir. Kegiatan ini bertujuan memberikan wawasan dan keterampilan bagi peserta dalam memanfaatkan limbah menjadi pupuk yang bernilai ekonomi dalam menunjang sektor pertanian yang berkelanjutan. Kegiatan ini merupakan kerjasama Universitas Sriwijaya dengan Dinas Kehutanan Provinsi Sumatera Selatan (Seksi Penyuluhan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat dan Seksi Pengendalian Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan). Kegiatan ini merupakan bagian dari Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PPM) oleh Unsri kepada desa binaan. Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan masyarakat mulai memanfaatkan limbah di lingkungan masyarakat menjadi produk yang bernilai ekonomi.

Abstract

The green synthesis method is an economical and eco-friendly approach to synthesizing materials. This study effectively synthesized magnetic NiFe2O4 by Artocarpus altilis extract leave for the photocatalytic degradation of Methylene blue dye and exhibited antibacterial properties. The phytochemical compounds found in plants act as agents for reducing and stabilizing NiFe2O4. The synthesized NiFe2O4 was examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The variables in degradation include solution pH, dye concentration, catalyst dose, and irradiation time. The synthesized NiFe2O4 has a 12.4 nm crystallite size, a saturation magnetization (Ms) of 44.56 emu/g, and a band gap of 1.68 eV. The degradation efficiency of methylene blue dye was 98.2% under the following conditions: a solution pH of 10, a concentration of 10 mg/L, a dose of 0.1 g/L, and an irradiation time of 90 min. The degradation mechanism of Methylene blue dye may be accurately described by pseudo-first-order kinetics, with a kapp value of 0.0443 min-1. NiFe2O4 has high stability; after five degradation cycles, the degradation efficiency decreased by 4.45%. Additionally, NiFe2O4 demonstrates significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.

Abstract

Qur’an-Memorizing Boarding School Kaffah Al-Mundzirin Palembang is facing two problems: threat of scabies outbreak and poorly managed waste of used cooking oils. Production of soap from used cooking oil can be a two-pronged solution for these problems. Public Service Team from Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sriwijaya have carried out health counseling and training of soapmaking to 36 students, school administrators, and guests. Health counseling explains about the symptoms, spread, mitigation, and prevention of scabies, while soapmaking training explains about the cold process saponification method by demonstration. This activity has successfully implanted knowledge about scabies and method of soapmaking from used cooking oil within students and school administrators. Moving forward, we suggest that this activity to be accompanied with training of marketing methods and strategies so that the soap that were made can be turned into a sellable product to help with the school’s economy.

Abstract

This study modified current bentonite with zinc oxide (ZnO) and investigated the performance of phenol adsorption. The material bentonite-ZnO was successfully synthesized and characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The adsorption performance was determined by adsorption equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamic parameters. The adsorption, kinetic, and thermodynamic parameters were compared alternatively. The phenol adsorption capacity was obtained from Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models, which for bentonite-ZnO was fit with both isotherm models (Langmuir R2 = 0,997 and Freundlich R2 = 0,9515) and was favorable than activated bentonite (n value bentonite-ZnO = 2.389; activated bentonite = 0,898). A kinetic model was tested with pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, and intraparticle diffusion models which bentonite-ZnO and activated bentonite fit in the pseudo-second-order with an excellent agreement (R2 = 0,999). Several thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and bentonite-ZnO have an entropy more than zero (ΔS = 0.008 J/molK), which demonstrated the feasibility and spontaneity (ΔG < 0) and endothermic nature (ΔH = 3,056 kJ/mol) of the phenol adsorption process. Several thermodynamic parameters such as enthalpy, Gibbs free energy, and bentonite-ZnO have an entropy more than zero (ΔS = 0.008 J/molK), which demonstrated the feasibility and spontaneity (ΔG < 0) and endothermic nature (ΔH = 3,056 kJ/mol) of the phenol adsorption process. Abstract

Efforts to increase fish farming productivity, motivating farmers to enhance the fish farming population in Pulau Semambu Village. Inderalaya Utara Village, Ogan Ilir, can be implemented through village lecture provision, training, and demonstration of artificial feed production based on maggots with the addition of water spinach leaf extract. The objective of this activity is to enhance the growth and immune system of fish livestock.Based on that reasoning, the framework of thought that will be pursued through the model approach (1) The approach is carried out through direct observation of the community while simultaneously mapping the latest fish farms in Pulau Semambu Village, Inderalaya Utara, Ogan Ilir.(2) Assistance, this activity is carried out through village lectures that can be realized in the form of outreach to fish farmers about improving fish farming management and providing support in motivating fish farmers to start implementing the concept of an intensive maintenance system in fish farming in maintenance ponds that meet health standards. (3) Direct demonstration (practice) of making artificial feed based on BSF maggots, which includes how to make water spinach leaf extract, how to maintain maggots, and how to make flour and pellets for artificial feed. The village lecture activity was attended by 40 women in the fish farming group in Pulau Semambu Village and students taking the Entomology and Entrepreneurship courses.The result of the activity is to increase the productivity and population of fish livestock in Pulau Semambu. The provision of fish feed based on a mixture of maggot flour and water spinach extract can enhance the growth and immune system of fish livestock, resulting in heavier fish that are less prone to disease. Increasing the production and population of fish livestock will result in higher incomes for the fish farmers in Pulau Semambu village, Inderalaya Utara, Ogan Ilir.

Abstract

Rhodamin B merupakan zat warna sintetik yang digunakan sebagai pewarna tekstil, cat dan kertas, namun pewarna ini juga ditemukan pada bahan makanan. Meskipun rhodamin B telah dilarang pemerintah, namun masih banyak produsen makanan yang menambahkan pewarna tersebut ke dalam bahan makanan.  Konsumsi rhodamin B dalam jangka panjang dapat terakumulasi di dalam tubuh dan dapat menyebabkan gejala pembesaran hati dan ginjal, gangguan fungsi hati, bahkan bisa menyebabkan timbulnya kanker hat. Rhodamin B juga ditemukan dalam produk minuman, alat kosmetika   dan lain-lain.  Mengingat bahaya yang ditimbulkan akibat mengkonsumsi rhodamin B, maka  telah dilakukan edukasi  kepada masyarakat   RW 05 Indralaya Mulya Ogan Ilir melalui ceramah, peragaan, diskusi  dan evaluasi tentang bahaya zat warna sintetik  rhodamin B  bagi kesehatan. Disamping itu juga diperkenalkan pada masyarakat  ciri-ciri produk yang menggunakan pewarna rhodamin B.  Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan masyarakat banyak yang tidak menyadari telah mengkonsumsi makanan yang mengandung rhodamin B. Masyarakat tidak menyadari begitu besar dampak mengkonsumsi makanan yang mengandung rhodamin B.  Kegiatan pengabdian ini telah membuka wawasan dan meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang  dampak yang ditimbulkan bila dikonsumsi secara terus menerus.

Abstract

Dillenia ochreata is a traditional medicine used to treat wounds and scabies. In wound healing, one of the treatments is to reduce pain (analgesic). Some compounds of triterpenoid groups have been known to be active as analgesic compounds. The leaf of D. ochrea was reported to contain secondary metabolites triterpenoid centulic acid and 3β-glucopyranosyl-lup-20(29)-en-28 oat. This study aimed to evaluate the analgesic activity and standardization of the ethanol extract of D. ochreata leaf and determine the mechanism of action. Analgesic activity was determined by a hot plate method and formalin test, and the mechanism of action was through muscarinic, dopamine, and opiate receptors, standardization of extract using the method issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health.  The ethanol extract of D. ochreata leaf at a 400 mg/kg bw dose has higher analgesic activity (24.85%) than the positive control (18.32%).  Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in analgesic activity percentage between the positive group and those with a 400 mg/kg bw group dose. The 400 mg/kg bw dose also showed a significant difference (p<0.05) between neurogenic pain (46.92%) and inflammation (61.19%) in the formalin test caused by opioid receptors. The evaluation of the analgesic mechanism showed the ethanol extract of D. ochreata leaf works through opioid receptors. The extract meets the requirements of the standard parameters.  The leaf extract of D. ochreata can be developed as an anti-analgesic from natural medicine.

Abstract

Luka terdiri dari luka bakar dan luka sayat. Luka bakar memerlukan perawatan yang khusus mulai fase awal hingga fase lanjut.  Dalam penyembuhan luka perlu penanganan  yang baik agar tidak terjadi infeksi dan mempercepat  proliferase  sel epitel  sehingga mempercepat terjadinya penutupan luka. Luka sayat memiliki resiko  infeksi yang tinggi bila dibandingkan dengan luka bakar sehingga dalam proses preoperatif  diperlukan bahan antiseptik  seperti Iodine, alkohol dan klorheksidin. Luka sering terjadi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Berbagai obat luka bakar dan luka sayat telah beredar dipasaran, namun dalam upaya pemberdayaan masyarakat untuk penanganan kondisi luka bakar dan luka sayat, maka  kami  tim pengabdian pada masyarakat perlu  memperkenalkan kepada masyarakat  khususnya di RW 05 Indralaya Mulya Ogan Ilir tentang  Penggunaan dan pembuatan  sediaan salep daun pacar kuku (Lawsonia inermis L.)  untuk pengobatan luka bakar dan luka sayat. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metode ceramah terkait khasiat dan kegunaan daun pacar kuku serta informasi ilmiah terkait aktivitas farmakologis dari daun pacar kuku. Selanjutnya diperkenalkan formulasi pembuatan salep daun pacar kuku untuk obat luka.  Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan  masyarakat merasa mendapatkan pengetahuan dan pengalaman tentang pembuatan salep dari tumbuhan obat. Masyarakat umumnya belum tau kalau daun pacar kuku juga berkhasiat sebagai obat luka.  Kegiatan ini  telah menambah wawasan  masyarakat Indralaya mulya  tentang penggunaan dan pembuatan salep dari tumbuhan obat untuk pengobatan luka.
