Abstract

Abstract

Agricultural technology is one of the focus areas to be targeted in the next few years. The real way to achieve this goal is the transfer of aquaphonic technology. Karangduren is an area in Pakisaji District, Malang Regency which has limited land and is used as non-productive land. As non-productive land, it is then converted into aquaphonic agricultural land. Efforts to raise the spirit of the younger generation towards limited agricultural land, carried out community service in the form of implementing TTG on smart aquaphonic farming systems by utilizing IoT technology for regulating and monitoring nutrients, pH, and oxygen content. The method used is the direct implementation method with the community. Community service activities can increase public enthusiasm and awareness regarding the use of sub-optimal land into agricultural land in the form of aquaponics. The application of appropriate technology in the form of solar panels can be used as a source of power to turn on the water pump so as to save energy and costs.

Abstract

The entrepreneurship movement is one of the government's efforts to address the increasing unemployment problem. High innovation and creativity skills are essential in entrepreneurship. Moreover, Indonesia is abundant in local potential that can serve as material for entrepreneurship. However, not all people have an understanding of the local potential to be used as eco-souvenirs. This is also faced by the Pondok Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong. The Pondok Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong is able to produce used cooking oil waste reaching around 3,105 liters per day, but this waste is not utilized and is only dumped into the environment. In addition, in the Pesantren area, there are also quite a lot of moringa leaves available, but they are only used as fences. To overcome the existing problems, the community service team of the State University of Malang (UM) conducted training to utilize used cooking oil and moringa leaves as eco-souvenirs in the form of aromatherapy candles and liquid detergents. This activity was carried out using lecture and practice methods, which began with pre-training activities. Pre-training was carried out with the aim of providing insight into the basics of entrepreneurship. Furthermore, training was carried out on making liquid detergent and aromatherapy candles. In addition to providing insight into the making of the two products, the research team also provided participants with information on how to present and sell products directly to the general public. Evidently, participants succeeded in selling the aromatherapy candle products they made for 30 minutes. This series of training was followed with great enthusiasm, actively, and interactively. The evaluation results showed a good response from the participants as a whole. The material is in accordance with the practice and needs of the cottage. This shows that the eco-souvenir making training activity was successfully carried out well and had a significant impact on the participants.

Abstract

Students' conceptual understanding of magnetism has been extensively studied, but limited research focuses on gender-based differences. This study aims to analyze Indonesian senior high school students’ conceptual understanding of magnetism and evaluate the influence of gender. A quantitative approach was applied using a conceptual test adapted from the Magnetism Conceptual Survey (MCS), consisting of ten multiple-choice items covering key concepts. Data from 120 students (57 males and 63 females) were analyzed. The average score was 66.84, which falls into the “Good” category based on predefined scoring intervals. Statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney test revealed no significant gender difference (p = 0.836), and the effect size was negligible (Cohen’s d ≈ 0.078), indicating the difference was not practically significant. However, some concepts were particularly challenging, such as distinguishing between electric charge and magnetic poles (37.5% correct) and understanding magnetic force (45.8% correct). These findings suggest that while students generally demonstrate a good level of understanding, conceptual difficulties persist regardless of gender. Variations in learning outcomes appear to be influenced more by cognitive and contextual factors, such as item characteristics, spatial visualization skills, and mastery of basic physics concepts, rather than gender itself. Instructional emphasis should therefore prioritize conceptual clarity in these difficult areas over gender-specific strategies.

Abstract

Magnetism is a fundamental component of physics education that underpins both scientific literacy and technological innovation. Yet, research consistently shows that students struggle to achieve a deep conceptual understanding of this topic. Persistent misconceptions, particularly in visualizing three-dimensional vector relationships and applying the right-hand rule, hinder students’ ability to transfer knowledge to novel contexts. Addressing these difficulties requires not only innovative instructional media but also insights from teachers who directly observe and manage such challenges in classroom practice. This study aimed to explore high school physics teachers’ perspectives on the difficulties of teaching magnetism and their interpretations of students’ learning barriers. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three teachers from different regions of Indonesia, each with four to seven years of teaching experience. Thematic analysis of the interview transcripts revealed two major findings: teachers reported significant limitations in instructional resources, which restricted their ability to dynamically depict vector orientations and forces; and students were observed to rely on rote memorization, struggle with spatial visualization, and confuse the applications of the right-hand rule in different contexts. These results highlight the intersection of pedagogical and cognitive barriers, showing how inadequate media directly contributes to persistent student misconceptions. The novelty of this study lies in foregrounding teachers’ experiences, thereby filling a gap in the literature that has predominantly focused on student-centered analyses. The conclusions emphasize the need for interactive, spatially explicit media, supported by structured pedagogical guidance, to strengthen magnetism learning. This study contributes to physics education by integrating teachers’ perspectives into efforts to design feasible and effective instructional interventions.

Abstract

The study explores the importance of concept mastery in physics education for developing 21-st century skills, focusing on the role of metacognitive scaffolding in enhancing creative thinking. Data were collected from publications indexed by Google Scholar over the past 10 years from 2015 to 2025, using the Publish or Perish tool. Through a systematic literature review using PRISMA guidelines, data from Google Scholar was analyzed using VOSviewer software, covering publication types, sources, and frequently occurring keywords in related studies. In-depth analysis of several key articles indicates that metacognitive scaffolding has a significant positive impact on enhancing student’s creative thinking abilities and concept mastery at different educational levels, supported by the role of teachers. However, there is a potential decline in similar research seen in publications related to physics concepts mastery and creative thinking, which trends to decrease in 2025. Key themes include metacognitive scaffolding, critical thinking, concept mastery, and physics education in various educational levels.
