Abstract

Abstract

Klaten Regency is dominated by the agricultural sector, with paddy as its top commodity as much as 51,4% of the total area of 65,556 ha. Delanggu rice, namely Rojolele, has become the identity of Klaten as a local pride commodity from Klaten, Indonesia. In addition, Rojolele has a unique value as part of national identity, culture, and local wisdom which has a huge opportunity to go global in the international market. Although it has been widely known worldwide, there are some challenges in its marketing development, especially in branding awareness. Many Rojolele riced produced by local SMEs in Klaten do not have business licenses yet, thus it hampers the marketing to the wider range area. The aim of the program is to strengthen the branding strategy to improve its competitiveness in the international market. The program will engage Sanggar Rojolele, a farming community in Delanggu Village that has replanted Rojolele Srinuk since 2016 as well as initiated many cultural events based on agriculture as one of local wisdom preservation in Klaten. Universitas Sebelas Maret engaged a close collaboration with the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) Taiwan trhough International Community Partnership (PKMI-UNS) to implement the community partnership program using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method. The activity is divided into 5 steps, namely: 1) training of the business licenses and the importance of product diversification, which will be conducted using instructional and dialog methods; 2) a seminar of strategy to develop Rojolele towards the international market; 3) registration of business licenses of Rojolele and its derivative product; 4) developing an online market strategy of Rojolele; 5) monitoring, evaluation and program output dissemination. The program is expected to increase Rojolele’s market share globally as well as to improve Rojolele Srinuk brand awareness, thus raising its competitiveness in the global market.

Abstract

Papaya agribusiness in Boyolali Regency has yet to develop optimally, focusing primarily on production, while the agroindustry (processing) aspect remains underdeveloped. The aim of this research is to formulate a strategy for the development of the papaya agroindustry. This study employs a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach using a case study method, with data collection techniques including document review, observation, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD) involving stakeholders at the district level. The collected data were analyzed using SWOT analysis. The research findings indicate that an aggressive agroindustry development strategy is essential. This strategy is highly beneficial as it leverages the strengths and opportunities available to support business growth. Key strategies to be implemented include scaling up the papaya agroindustry, diversifying products, enhancing entrepreneurial mindset and skills, and conducting intensive marketing of quality products by utilizing stakeholder networks. Furthermore, collaboration with modern retailers such as Alfamart, Indomart, Mitra Supermarkets, and Luwes in the Solo Raya area, as well as with the Boyolali Regency Local Brand Forum (FBL), is crucial. Additionally, partnerships with papaya processing technology service providers, such as LPK, the Industry and Trade Service, the MSME and Cooperative Service, relevant Ministries, and Universities, are recommended to support the development of the sector.

Abstract

Delanggu Village is well-known for its agricultural success, particularly as a producer of the Rojolele rice variety. Delanggu Village, which preserves historical values in the agricultural sector, has the potential for cultural preservation through various artistic events in the form of a farming cultural celebration called the Mbok Sri Festival. However, the preservation and strengthening of agricultural culture has only been limited to the Mbok Sri Festival, which is held once a year. As a result, the establishment and reinforcement of agrarian culture in Delanggu Village is not ideal. As a result, new value developments are required to maximize the preservation of agrarian culture and time-limited tourist trips to Delanggu Village. Based on these issues, the PPK Ormawa KSP "Principium" Team, as a service team, collaborated with Delanggu Village to develop a solution idea in the form of community service and empowerment through the implementation of Omah Rojolele as an integrated means of agricultural history to increase the community's attractiveness. The service and empowerment method used is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), which emphasizes active community engagement in the establishment of agricultural cultural villages. This dedication and empowerment has resulted in the strengthening of Delanggu Village's cultural management institutions, the establishment of Omah Rojolele and the Omah Rojolele Website, the development of village connections through cultural tourism packages, and an increase in village income generation.

Abstract

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted food security and accessibility in Central Java Province. This study aims to analyze the effects of the pandemic on food accessibility in three dimensions—physical, economic, and social—and on food security. Methods: The study was conducted in five cities and regencies with high COVID-19 case rates. The research method employs Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) to identify relationships between latent and manifest variables. Primary data were collected from 348 respondents, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies. Results: The findings reveal that the COVID-19 pandemic situation indirectly positively affects food security through improved physical access to food, supported by government policies such as large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) and community activity restrictions (PPKM), which allowed markets to operate with health protocols. However, economic and social access to food was not significantly impacted by the pandemic. Physical access was shown to have a direct positive impact on food security, while economic access was highly influenced by the respondents’ economic conditions. Conclusion: In conclusion, food accessibility—particularly physical access—plays a crucial role in maintaining food security during the pandemic in Central Java.
