Abstract

The subsidized fuel price increase poses a significant policy challenge in Indonesia, characterized by complexities in decision-making and implementation. This study investigates the mediatization of political discourse surrounding this issue during two distinct periods: 2013, under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), and 2022, under President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Employing the Discourse Coalition Framework (DCF) and Discourse Network Analysis (DNA), the research analyzes media narratives on fuel price increases published by Detik.com, one of Indonesia's most prominent digital media outlets. The findings reveal a notable shift in discourse coalitions between the two periods. In 2013, opposition to the policy was primarily voiced by politically affiliated actors, whereas in 2022, civil society figures emerged as the dominant counteractors. Supportive narratives, however, consistently stemmed from government-aligned individuals in both periods. By comparing the actors involved, the arguments presented, and the evolution of discourse over time, this study highlights the changing dynamics of mediatized policy debates. Moreover, Detik.com demonstrated a balanced mediatization of supportive and opposing perspectives, with government-affiliated voices predominating in support, and opposition transitioning from political elites in 2013 to civil society in 2022. These findings underscore the media's evolving role in fostering issue-focused narratives, reducing polarization, and facilitating informed public discourse on contentious policy issues.

Abstract

This study examines the policy of raising subsidized fuel prices in Indonesia through a dramaturgical lens, employing discourse analysis as its methodology. Each fuel price increase triggers intense political debates, involving key governmental figures and eliciting diverse public responses. The research contrasts two pivotal periods: the policy decisions during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's administration in 2013 and those under President Joko Widodo in 2022. Using a dramaturgical framework, the study analyzes the dimensions of scripting, setting, staging, and performance in policymaking, highlighting how each administration constructs distinct policy narratives. In 2013, the policy faced significant opposition and robust public discourse. In contrast, by 2022, media strategies were strategically employed to shape the narrative and mitigate dissent. The findings reveal contrasting approaches by the two administrations in managing the political and social consequences of the fuel price increases. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics of public policy in the context of economic and political challenges, emphasizing the critical role of communication strategies in the implementation of contentious policies.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology in curatorial practice offers transformative potential for managing, presenting, and distributing both traditional and digital art. This study explores how AI enhances curatorial processes through advanced data analysis and personalized visitor experiences. AI assists curators in organizing collections and recommending artworks tailored to individual preferences, fostering greater engagement with dynamic, customized exhibitions. Blockchain technology, on the other hand, ensures the provenance of decentralized artworks, guaranteeing authenticity and transparency. It addresses issues like counterfeiting, ownership disputes, and secure transactions, while supporting artists through smart contracts that ensure equitable compensation. However, ethical concerns remain. These include biases in AI algorithms, intellectual property challenges in decentralized NFT platforms, and limited digital access for marginalized artists. Academic studies and case analyses underscore these challenges and advocate for collaboration among curators, artists, technologists, and policymakers. This approach seeks to resolve ethical dilemmas, promote inclusivity, and maintain cultural integrity in implementing these technologies. The study emphasizes the need for public policy frameworks to regulate AI and blockchain, ensuring fair compensation and equitable access to their benefits while safeguarding cultural values. By addressing these concerns, these technologies can unlock new possibilities for the art world.

Abstract

Music videos by independent musicians represent a new portrait of the music industry in the digital era. This article tries to look at how YouTube has influenced the learning patterns, production patterns, and performance patterns of music content creators in the digital space. A review of the literature in this study connects art, technology, and the media. The research method used is a case study with the object of two independent music channels, Jember on YouTube. The data was obtained through creator interviews and observations of independent music channels, as well as library studies, which were then tested for validity by triangulation of sources. Qualitative data analysis is done descriptively. The findings reveal how content creators start their channels, gain popularity, interact with subscribers, and promote their music careers through YouTube. There was a rather fundamental paradigm shift in the concept of amateur musicians and professional musicians as YouTube became a digital space to be counted on for sharing artwork. Advanced research is recommended to focus on the influence of the YouTube platform on culture, capital economic issues, economy sharing, its exposure to the audience, and its function as a source of learning. Abstract

This study explores independently published comics in Indonesia after 2010, which show differences from independent comics in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Contemporary independent comics distinguish themselves by positioning readers as patrons and the application of transmedia storytelling across platforms, especially related to film and music, and not for industrial purposes. The research questions presented are: what are transmedia storytelling practices in contemporary independent comics in Indonesia, and how is the context of creative freedom and control that underlies the production of printed comics presented through cross-media platforms? Using qualitative methodology, this study applies descriptive discourse analysis based on the visual culture framework, following Gillian Rose's methodological approach. The descriptive analysis focuses on the case study of transmedia storytelling "Pendekar Cyborg", an independently published comic series, which intersects with other media such as motion comics, animated music videos, film, and music. The findings show that contemporary Indonesian independent comics engage in canonical transmedia storytelling, in dimensions of spreadability, continuity, and multiplicity, while still reflecting the socio-political context. The work “Pendekar Cyborg” affirms creative freedom within an independent artistic community and expands narrative experiences through innovative, creator-driven transmedia strategies with community support. This research contributes to understanding how independent visual storytelling in Indonesia embraces transmedia formats to negotiate cultural meaning and audience engagement.
