Abstract

This research examines the development of South Korea's cultural industry after the 1990s economic crisis, particularly in relation to Indonesia. It explores how South Korea successfully integrated its culture with North Korea, leading to the global phenomenon known as the Korean Wave. The South Korean government played a crucial role in advancing the cultural industry as part of its soft power and public diplomacy strategy. This study adopts a qualitative approach with the theoretical framework of transnationalism perspective and public diplomacy theory. Secondary data were collected through literature reviews from various sources, including books, journals, online articles, and mass media. The findings show that the Korean Wave has captured the attention of nearly all Asian, American, and European countries, including Indonesia. The Korean Wave has had a positive economic impact on South Korea, contributing to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Moreover, it has opened up cultural cooperation opportunities between South Korea and Indonesia. The Indonesian Wave has started to emerge in South Korea with the introduction of Indonesian K-Pop and K-Drama. South Korea actively promotes its culture in Indonesia through bilateral cooperation and cultural events. The popularity of K-Drama and K-Pop in Indonesia has influenced the culture and lifestyle of its people. Consequently, the post-economic crisis development of South Korea's cultural industry has had a positive impact on the bilateral relationship between South Korea and Indonesia through the Korean Wave. The South Korean cultural industry has become an effective tool of public diplomacy to strengthen relations with other countries. Keywords: Korean Waves, South Korean Diplomacy, South Korea-Indonesia Bilateral Relations.

Abstract

Indonesian-Japan Economic Partnership (IJEPA) is a trade and investment cooperation agreement that provides an opportunity to conduct export-import trade between Indonesia and Japan with low tariffs based on free trade. Japanese investment in Indonesia is generally in the manufacturing sector, Especially in the automotive and electronics industries. One form of the cooperation carried out by Indonesia within the IJEPA framework in the automotive sector is to form trade relations with PT. Astra International by establishing a two-wheeled vehicle assembly company under the name PT. Astra Honda Motor. Within the IJEPA framework, Indonesia provides the USDFS tariff scheme for Japan and Japan provides the MIDEC program for Indonesia. Therefore, the researcher drew the question "How does the IJEPA cooperation Influence the Domination of AHM in Indonesia?". To answer this question, the researcher used the Neorealism perspective. This perspective is considered appropriate because Japan and Indonesia are the main actors in the creation of IJEPA cooperation. This study To answer the question The researcher use the Perspective of Neorealism. This perspective is considered appropriate because Japan and Indonesia are the main actors in the creation of IJEPA cooperation. This research uses the Corporate Dominant theory as one of the theories to explain the dominance of AHM company in Indonesia after the IJEPA cooperation. In conducting this study, researcher used the qualitative research methods with library research methods. The result of the study show that Astra Honda Motor as one of the main players in the motorcycle industry in Indonesia gets a lot of benefits from the IJEPA cooperation and shows indication of industrial behavior towards monopoly while Indonesia does not get the benefit from the IJEPA cooperation due to the non-implementation of the MIDEC program. Abstract

The purpose of research to determine crimes that occurred in the Indian Ocean region during the 5 years starting from 2018-2022, as well as cooperation and implementation of defense cooperation in the region. The Indian Ocean is a strategic water area which has a main purpose for the world economy. This ocean functions as a link for international trade routes from Asia to Europe or vice versa. Critical trade routes are the Strait of Malacca, the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb. Therefore, many crimes occur in these waters, such as transnational crimes, terrorism and border disputes. Method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using library research. The theory used to answer this research is maritime security theory by Natalie Klien, with indicators for management, development and protection of marine resources. The perspective used is liberalism, with a nation state level of analysis. Based on the research result that the cooperation carried out by Indonesia and India has collaborated in various fields such as dealing with transnational crime, terrorism and determining regional boundaries. These efforts are gathered within the IORA organization. However, this has not been fully implemented well. This happened because of the extradition agreement's lack of understanding by the implementing authorities in carrying out extradition. In preventing terrorism financing, there is still a lack of supervision over the flow of domestic funds. Meanwhile, the determination of the exclusive economic zone is still often violated by fishermen because the territorial boundaries are large, so that few fishermen or the community around Rondo Island in Aceh know their territorial boundaries. Keywords: IORA, Indian Ocean, Maritime Crimes, Maritime Security.

There are various types of South Korean popular culture, namely music, films, dramas, clothing styles, and others. South Korean popular culture is spread to various countries in the world, one of which is Japan. These two countries have poor relations due to the colonialism carried out by Japan against South Korea. This also has an influence on the Japanese public's view of South Korea. The purpose of this research is to see the spread of Hallyu in Japan. The method used in this research is a qualitative method using several sources, namely journals, books, and websites. The spread of Hallyu in Japan can spread throughout the country, which can be proven by the holding of concerts by Korean singers in several cities or prefectures, the high ratings of national television broadcasts showing Korean dramas, and the many restaurants that specifically serve South Korean cuisine Kata Kunci: drama, fashion, K-Pop, Korean food, nation branding

Abstract

Transnational crimes are becoming an increasingly serious threat in the era of globalization, significantly impacting the security and well-being of Indonesian citizens (WNI) both domestically and abroad. Crimes such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and online fraud undermine social stability and violate human rights. The Indonesian government has taken preventive and repressive measures through national regulations, ratification of international conventions, and strengthening the diplomatic role of the Indonesian Embassies (KBRI) and Consulates General (KJRI). However, challenges such as limited resources and the continuously evolving modus operandi of these crimes reveal existing gaps in the protection of WNI. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, utilizing primary data from observations and interviews, as well as secondary data from official documents. A case study of human trafficking victims is selected to provide an in-depth understanding of this phenomenon. Data analysis is conducted using thematic analysis techniques, identifying key patterns in the role of KBRI in the repatriation efforts of human trafficking victims. The research also examines Indonesia's diplomatic involvement in leveraging international legal mechanisms to protect its citizens The results indicate that despite the presence of a robust legal framework and international cooperation, the implementation of protection measures still requires optimization. KBRI plays a significant role in providing legal advocacy, repatriation, and raising awareness among WNI. However, gaps in the deportation and rehabilitation processes of human trafficking victims remain major challenges. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen cross-border cooperation, enhance the capacity of diplomatic representatives, and provide continuous education to improve the protection of WNI from the threats of transnational crimes. Keywords: human trafficking, transnational crime, repatriation, Indonesian citizens (WNI)

Abstract

The Aufia Global Islamic Boarding School (PP AGIBS) is in the village of Minas Jaya, Minas District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The PP AGIBS curriculum emphasizes Islamic education, so it contains little in the way of science and technology competencies, such as Solar Power Plant Installation Engineering. (PLTS). In general, the village of Minas Jaya is around the former PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, which used to be the largest oil mining company in Riau Province, and most of its residents worked at Chevron as unskilled laborers, such as cleaning staff and security personnel. The presence of PP AGIBS is very strategic considering its location around the community; however, PP AGIBS has a moral responsibility to contribute to the social issues faced by the community in the Minas Jaya village. Therefore, PP AGIBS needs to collaborate well with the University of Riau and the Minas Jaya village government to facilitate communication with the residents of Minas Jaya on issues outside the scope of Islamic studies, such as the high dropout rate among teenagers. One of the solutions implemented to address the issue of school dropouts is the initiation of the AGIBS Taruna Course and Training Institute (LKP) development. To realize the initial steps of this LKP development, several activities and role distributions were carried out. Among them, PP AGIBS contributes as the provider of infrastructure, including location, office space, office supplies, and other related facilities, while the service implementation team from Riau University provides human resources as instructors and supplies training equipment for PLTS installation techniques. With the synergy between Riau University and PP AGIBS, it is hoped that school dropouts can gain competence in the field of PLTS installation techniques.

Abstract

Gastrodiplomacy has emerged as a strategic tool for nations to enhance their global image. By leveraging the power of food, countries can foster international relations and promote their cultural heritage. Successful cases of gastrodiplomacy can be observed in a number of nations where culinary has proved to be a major driver in cultural and economic interactions. Inspired by this success, Indonesia launched the Indonesia Spice Up The World program to showcase its rich culinary heritage and spices on the global stage, with a particular focus on the Australian market. This study examines Indonesia's gastrodiplomacy efforts through this program in Sydney between 2021 and 2023. Employing a qualitative research methodology, this study combined primary data collected from interviews with non-governmental actors, such as the Indonesia Gastronomy Network, and secondary data from literature reviews and documents. The theory of multi-track diplomacy serves as the theoretical framework for this research. By utilizing the four tracks of theory, namely government, NGOs, businesses, and diasporas, this study explores the initiatives undertaken to promote Indonesian cuisine in Sydney during 2021-2023. The implementation of multi-track diplomacy indicates its effectiveness in supporting Indonesia's gastrodiplomacy efforts through the Indonesia Spice Up The World program. Each track delivers a distinctive contribution to the program's four pillars: spices and processed foods, Indonesian restaurants, culinary promotion, Indonesia’s gastronomy destination. Through the combined efforts of the four tracks, Indonesia has effectively strengthened its image and appeal as a culinary destination in Sydney between 2021 and 2023. This study emphasizes the significance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in implementing Indonesia’s gastrodiplomacy initiatives. Abstract

Abstract

This paper discusses the potential and dynamics of energy cooperation between Indonesia and Russia following Indonesia’s accession as a full member of BRICS in early 2025. In the context of geopolitical tensions, sanctions against Russia, and Indonesia’s urgent domestic energy needs, the Indonesia-Russia energy partnership is viewed as a rational and strategic move. The study employs a liberalist approach, the theory of complex interdependence, and the Two-Level Games framework to analyze how Indonesia conducts its economic diplomacy with Russia. This research is based on a qualitative method utilizing literature review and secondary data. The findings reveal that Indonesia has succeeded in increasing oil imports from Russia without violating international sanctions, while still maintaining constructive relations with Western countries. Nevertheless, Indonesia continues to face challenges, particularly in relation to its national energy transition and the consistency of its foreign policy amid ongoing geopolitical dynamics. Therefore, the Indonesia–Russia energy cooperation should be directed not only at meeting short-term demands but also as part of a long-term, sustainable energy and diplomatic strategy.
