Abstract

Background: Taekwondo is based on sudden and violent attacks by the hands and feet; therefore, an injury can occur. Ankle sprains account for 15% to 20.8% of all sports injuries, and 72% of people who have experienced an ankle sprain report experiencing chronic ankle instability. Star excursion balance exercise is an exercise that increases the functional ability of the ankle. The shortwave diathermy intervention assists the ligaments' healing process as core stability exercise is necessary to activate postural control, which is a valuable component in treating chronic ankle instability. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of adding core stability to shortwave diathermy and star excursion balance exercise in improving the functional ability of chronic ankle instability in taekwondo. Methods: The research used experimental research with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. The technique used for sampling in this study is simple random sampling. There are two sample groups to be studied. The first group was given additional core stability through shortwave diathermy and star excursion balance exercise, and the second group was assigned the intervention of shortwave diathermy and star excursion balance exercise. The functional ability of the ankle is measured using the foot ankle disability index (FADI). There were 18 people in each group. The study was conducted three times a week for a month. Results: The results showed significant differences in the two groups with p = 0.000. However, the intervention group was better at improving the functional ability of chronic ankle instability in taekwondo with a value of p = 0.002. Conclusion: This study concludes that there are differences in adding core stability to the shortwave diathermy intervention and star excursion balance exercise in improving the functional ability of chronic ankle instability in taekwondo.

Abstract

Background: Shoulder pain and disability is a disorder commonly experienced by surfers, which is characterized by pain and limitations in the shoulder region when performing functional movements. Shoulder movement is closely related to the surfer's paddling movements when surfing, so high paddling intensity increases the risk of complaints in the shoulder region. This research aimed to prove that adding postural muscle neck control to conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation intervention was more effective in reducing shoulder pain and disability than conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation intervention. Methods: This research was experimental with a randomized pre- and post-test two-group design. Research participants were randomly divided into two groups. This research measured shoulder disability using the shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI) questionnaire. Results: The paired T-test analysis showed significant differences in the reduction in SPADI scores in group intervention, which was 23.2±2.7 with p-value< 0.001, and in group control, was 20.15± 3.3 with p-value< 0.001 in the patient's shoulder functional increase. The independent T-test obtained a p-value of 0.002, proving a significant difference between the intervention and control groups in reducing shoulder disability among recreational surfers. Conclusion: There were significant differences in SPADI scores before and after both group interventions. In addition, data showed that the additional postural neck muscle exercise on conventional physiotherapy rehabilitation obtained better improvement in shoulder disability than conventional physiotherapy intervention only among recreational surfers. Abstract

Woodball was first introduced in 2006 and has since grown rapidly across the country. In addition, many woodball clubs and communities have emerged, and woodball has become an officially recognized competitive sport since 2016. In 2016, woodball even became part of the national sports week (PON) in West Java. Woodball is a sport that combines elements of golf and croquet, emphasizing the accuracy of shots to pass through the goal with a wooden ball. Hand-eye coordination is one of the key factors that can influence the quality of an athlete's shots. Objective: To determine the relationship between hand-eye coordination and shot quality in woodball athletes in Bali Province. An observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach involving 42 woodball athletes in Bali Province. Hand-eye coordination was measured using a 30-second ball catch-and-throw test, while shot quality was assessed using a skill test based on the number of balls successfully passing through the gate. Analysis was performed using Spearman's rho correlation test. The analysis revealed a significant relationship between eye-hand coordination and swing quality in woodball athletes (P < 0.05). The positive correlation coefficient indicates that better eye-hand coordination leads to higher swing quality. There is a significant relationship between eye-hand coordination and shot quality. Improving visual-motor coordination skills can contribute to the performance of woodball athletes.
