Abstract

The waste problem is an urgent problem that needs to be addressed now in the Special Region of Yogykarta Province (DIY). The closure of the Piyungan Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) is a strong appeal for the entire community to be able to process waste at the household level. Based on the results of the situation analysis and solutions related to the waste problem in RT 10 and RT 12 Jomblangan Hamlet, Banguntapan, Bantul, it was found that the community needs processing of used cooking oil waste. The aim of this community service activity is to develop sustainable creativity through training in making environmentally friendly soap from used cooking oil. The activity methods used were education, discussion and training which was carried out for two days with a duration of 120 minutes per day (13 and 15 June 2023) which was attended by 40 housewives. Evaluation of activities is carried out through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results of the activity statistically showed an increase in participants' knowledge regarding waste and processing used cooking oil waste into environmentally friendly soap from 83.5% to 93.25% (p=0.011). Household waste processing activities with creative ideas can be carried out regularly, so that they can contribute to efforts to reduce waste in the DIY area

Abstract

Insufficient knowledge and information about mental health hinders the optimal use of adolescent mental health services. This qualitative case study aims to describe the utilization of adolescent mental health services (MHS) from the perspective of healthcare providers in primary health care (PHC). The primary informants were psychologists and youth care health services (YCHS) coordinators, while the triangulated informants comprised adolescents; they were selected using the purposive sampling technique. This research employs primary data collected through focus group discussions with the primary informants and in-depth interviews with the triangulated informants. The study results reported that there is no PHC providing MHS specifically designed for adolescents. Further, as low mental health literacy and stigma from parents were identified as challenges, peer support was detected to be the reinforcing factors for adolescents to access MHS. Hence, mental health literacy must be integrated into the school curriculum so that adolescent self-diagnosis does not occur.

Abstract

Background: The amount of garbage in Yogyakarta annually experiences consistent growth. Some inhabitants have not adopted autonomous garbage sorting and depend on police to handle waste management. Yet, the lack of daily garbage collection by officials has led to a buildup of domestic garbage in the Dusun Karangbendo. Knowledge in managing both organic and non-organic garbage may be significantly increased through education, making it one of the most crucial waste reduction measures. Objective: This activity aims to enhance the community's understanding and proficiency in biopores and the implementation of RAPEL as an environmentally friendly approach to trash reduction in Dusun Karangbendo, Banguntapan, Bantul. Method: The approach employed involves providing education and training to the residents of Dusun Karangbendo. Of 18 individuals underwent training to create biopore holes and utilise the RAPEL application to recycle non-organic garbage. Results: A significant rise in knowledge regarding trash management and a strong dedication to using the acquired techniques has been seen (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Such measures not only mitigate the adverse environmental effects of garbage but also yield supplementary economic advantages for the community. Anticipated is that this effort will serve as a paradigm for other areas inefficiently and durably handling trash.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of depression among children under 15 in Kulon Progo Regency reaches 6%, while emotional and mental disorders affect 8%, with only 9% of affected individuals receiving adequate treatment. Parental behaviour influences the utilisation of mental health services for adolescents, shaping how service needs are assessed. Limited mental health resources and negative parental attitudes further exacerbate adolescent mental health conditions. Aims: This study aims to evaluate parental attitudes toward access to mental health services for adolescents. Method: Using a cross-sectional design, a total of 107 biological parents of adolescents aged 10 to 24 years were selected using purposive sampling. Result: This study finds that perceived severity, perceived threat, and cues to action significantly influence parental behaviour in seeking mental health services (p < 0.05). While 57% of parents reported inappropriate use of services and perceived no benefits from them, 51.4% acknowledged no access barriers. However, only 49.5% demonstrated strong self-efficacy, and 53.3% failed to take timely action. Conclusion: The findings underscore the need for interventions that equip parents with practical knowledge and skills to obtain appropriate mental health services for their adolescent.
