Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the POGIL learning model on critical thinking skills and collaboration skills of students in class XI sman 14 Gowa. The research design is pretest-posttest control group design. The population in the study were all grade XI students in the 2024/2025 school year which were spread into 5 study groups. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. A total of 3 study groups used in this study, namely, study group XI. B3 as an experimental class 1 applied the POGIL learning model, study group XI. B1 as experimental class 2 applied discovery learning model, and study group XI.C1 as control class applied NHT model. The data collection techniques used were critical thinking skills test and collaboration skills questionnaire. The research instruments used were a critical thinking skills test in the form of an essay of 7 questions, and a collaboration skills questionnaire of 15 statement items. The data analysis technique used was Analysis of Covariance (Ancova) using SPSS with a significant level of 0.05. Based on the Ancova test results, the significance value of the critical thinking skills variable is 0.00 <0.05 and the significance value of the collaboration skills variable is 0.00 <0.05, so it can be concluded that the application of the POGIL learning model has a significant effect or a real effect on the collaboration skills variable.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of Design Thinking-Based Learning (DTBL) on students’ learning independence and creative thinking skills based on adversity quotient (AQ). A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 69 tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sidrap. The experimental group was taught using DTBL, while the control group received Project-Based Learning (PjBL). Learning independence was measured using a self-regulated learning questionnaire, creative thinking skills were assessed using a Torrance-based creative thinking test, and AQ was measured using an adaptation of Stoltz’s Adversity Response Profile (ARP). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and factorial Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that DTBL significantly affected learning independence (F = 4.602, p = 0.036) and creative thinking skills (F = 5.052, p = 0.028). The mean posttest score of learning independence in the DTBL class (M = 109.23) was higher than that of the PjBL class (M = 103.00), while the mean creative thinking score in the DTBL class (M = 61.74) also exceeded that of the PjBL class (M = 59.85). AQ significantly influenced learning independence (F = 9.222, p = 0.003), but not creative thinking skills (p = 0.279). A significant interaction between learning model and AQ was found on learning independence (p = 0.020), whereas no interaction effect was observed on creative thinking skills (p = 0.813). Therefore, DTBL was more effective than PjBL in improving students’ learning independence and creative thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation on biology learning outcomes of eleventh-grade students in public high schools in Soppeng Regency, both directly and indirectly. This quantitative study employed an ex post facto correlation approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis techniques. A sample of 505 students was selected using simple random sampling and proportional sampling techniques from a total population of 1.444 students. The instruments used included questionnaires on metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, and learning motivation, as well as a biology learning achievement test. The results showed that metacognitive awareness was significantly related to learning motivation (p=0.00), but had no direct effect on learning outcomes (p=0.06). Self-efficacy was significantly related to learning outcomes (p=0.01), but not significantly to learning motivation (p=0.06). Learning motivation was also significantly related to learning outcomes (p=0.00). Indirectly, metacognitive awareness has a significant relationship with learning outcomes through the mediation of learning motivation (p=0.00) and self-efficacy (p=0.02). However, the indirect relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes through learning motivation was not significant (p=0.16). The conclusion of this study confirms that learning motivation plays a crucial role as a primary mediator. Increasing metacognitive awareness and self-efficacy needs to be optimized in an integrated manner to improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The emergence of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens reinforces the critical need for new antibiotics sourced from unexplored microbial habitats. Actinomycetes remain the most prolific bacterial producers of bioactive secondary metabolites, yet tropical karst ecosystems and plant-associated rhizospheres in Indonesia remain poorly investigated despite their ecological complexity. This study aimed to isolate, screen, and characterize Actinomycetes from the karst and rhizospheric environments of South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and to identify isolates capable of producing antibacterial compounds. A total of 42 isolates were obtained using heat-shock pretreatment and selective Starch Casein Agar. Preliminary antagonistic assays against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35218 identified four active isolates. Two isolates KMR 1E2 and SDR 2a exhibited strong inhibition (>30 mm) against S. aureus, while SDR 9.9 inhibited E. coli. Morphological and phenotypic characterization revealed diverse spore-chain architectures, colony color profiles, carbon and nitrogen utilization patterns, salinity tolerance, melanin production, and variable growth under different pH and temperature conditions. Ethyl acetate extracts of KMR 1E2 and SDR 2a demonstrated potent antibacterial activity, and TLC-bioautography identified three active metabolites (Rf 0.73, 0.48, 0.34), with the Rf 0.34 spot associated with an alkaloid-type compound. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of KMR 1E2 extract against S. aureus was 0.3125 mg/mL. This study confirms that tropical karst ecosystems in Indonesia are promising reservoirs of antibiotic-producing Actinomycetes and provides a foundation for future genomic and chemical elucidation studies
