Abstract

This study focuses on exploring motivational reasons for learning English (eg, due to interest/pleasure, pressure from others, or future career goals). To find motivational reasons for learning English, I used the theory of determination (SDT) by Deci and Ryan (1985) as my theoretical framework. Based on the TOEIC score, the results of the cluster analysis showed four different groups, namely the following classifications: intermediate with a toeic score of 405-600, basic working proficiency with a toeic score of 605-780, advanced working abilities with a toeic score with a toeic score of 785-900, general professional proficiency with a toeic score of 905-990. Reasons for motivation to learn English, their goals (i.e., mastery approach goals, mastery-avoidance goals, performance approach goals, and performance avoidance goals), specific foreign language anxiety (i.e., listening, listening, and speaking), and foreign language in general Self Efficacy. Two sets of MANOVA, with follow-up comparison-ANOVA, were used to explain the motivations of different groups regarding foreign language goals and objectives. One ANOVA was used to determine differences in general foreign language self-efficacy. The results showed significant influence and differences between cadets in the four groups based on TOEIC scores on learning motivation, their goals, foreign languages, and foreign languages in general.

Abstract

Abstrak Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu kemampuan yang sangat dibutuhkan taruna baik dalam bidang Pendidikan atau dunia kerja. Taruna dengan pengetahuan Bahasa Inggris serta keterampilan yang baik akan lebih siap menghadapi persaingan global. Penelitian ini mengkhususkan pada materi vocabulary dan motivasi belajar taruna/i. Kemampuan berbahasa terutama materi vocabulary pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode Running Dictation yaitu teknik pengajaran bahasa yang digunakan untuk melatih kemampuan menghafal, mendengarkan, berbicara, dan menulis dalam bahasa inggris, dalam hal ini penulis memfokuskan pada kemampuan menghafal kosakata atau vocabulary. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui Kemampuan Vocabulary dan motivasi belajar taruna Manajemen Transportasi Udara angkatan 9A dan 9B dalam meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa inggris pada materi vocabulary. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua variabel yaitu variabel independen atau variabel bebas dan variabel dependen atau variabel terikat. Variabel bebas atau independen pada penelitian ini adalah Metode Running Dictation dan Motivasi Belajar sedangkan variabel dependen atau variabel terikat adalah kemampuan vocabulary pada materi Bahasa Inggris. Metode penelitian pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan menggunakan SPSS 27 dalam perhitungan analisis data. Penyebaran angket atau quisioner dengan sample sejumlah 46 responden dari Manajemen Transportasi Udara angkatan 9A dan 9B. Hasil penelitian ini adalah variabel metode running dictation X1 dan variabel motivasi belajar X2 secara simultan (bersama-sama) berpengaruh terhadap variabel kemampuan vocabulary Y sebesar 41,6% dan dapat diambil hasil bahwa variabel X (metode running dictation dan motivasi belajar ) yang paling berpengaruh dalam variabel Y (kemampuan vocabulary) adalah variabel X1 yaitu metode running dictation dengan skala 0,642. Abstract

Reflective learning is used to improve writing skills, and track the learning process regarding what students understand and what they do not understand. However, little research has explored the impact of reflective learning on students' critical thinking, especially in higher education. This study aims to fills the gap by exploring Indonesian EFL students in the seventh semester of using reflective learning in improving critical thinking skills and identifying their development of critical thinking skills through reflective learning. Questionnaires and students’ reflective learning are provided for data collection. The result reveal that from the questionnaire, reflective learning has an impact on students' critical thinking of 79.99%. Furthermore, it is also found that from students’ reflective learning participated in this study employed three development of critical thinking skills: 1) identify the strength, 2) recognize the weaknesses, and 3) find out the solution. Finding suggest that strategic use of reflective learning may enhance EFL critical thinking skills as well as maximize the achievement of their learning goals.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a self- and collective efficacy measure for Indonesian EFL teachers focusing on teaching responsibilities, undertaken student advisory, coping English as classroom communication, English milieu, and institutional tasks. This study focused on demonstrating the development and validity of EFL Teacher Self- and Collective Efficacy Scale (ETSCE). The study used a quantitative research approach with cross-sectional survey research design. There were sixty-two EFL teachers involved in the study chosen using a voluntary sampling technique. Results showed that Content Validity Ratio (CVR) index was .5 with four panelists arguing valid with no revision. The internal consistency test showed a very highly reliable (α = .977) with no negative value in Inter-Item Correlation, which indicated all items measured the same underlying characteristics. Another result showed that all sub-scales in both self- and collective efficacy were categorized in a very highly reliable (α > .7) Therefore, the final ETSCE produced by this study is valid and reliable and can be a reference for those who have sought to study self- and collective efficacy in teaching EFL in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study used a narrative inquiry design to reveal the outstanding participants of a community service conducted to train aviation communication and safety at SMK Muhammadiyah 9 Lamongan. This study was intended to portray the impactful benefits and contributions in determining future implications for participants’ professional development. There were seven participants chosen using a purposive sampling technique by considering inclusion criteria such as being the most active participants in the program. Data were collected using interviews and the obtained qualitative data were analyzed using a thematic approach. Results showed that there were three key points of experiences perceived by the participants, namely the importance of effective aviation communication, awareness of aviation safety, and collaboration between school staffs and students. The benefits covered increasing understanding of the aviation industry, developing practical skills, increasing awareness of safety, and forming aviation people. The future implications involved implications on education and the world of aviation, and implications in the world of transportation in Indonesia. This study suggests that the community service program conducted brings more benefits for teachers, students, the headmaster, school staff, and the facilitator. Abstract

TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) digunakan sebagai alat penilaian standar untuk mengetahui ketrampilan Bahasa Inggris seseorang yang bukan penutur asli, utamanya bagi para calon karyawan/pegawai yang akan atau sedang bekerja di Perusahaan/instansi. Untuk itu diperlukan persiapan pelaksanaan test resmi berstandar international bagi 9 dosen Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Veteran Bangun Nusantara Sukoharjo untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa Inggris di Univet secara global, memenuhi syarat kelulusan bagi calon wisudawan, serta meningkatkan daya saing lulusan di dunia kerja dan pendidikan. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dosen tentang penyelenggaraan TOEIC, mempersiapkan dosen sebagai pembimbing, mengembangkan materi pembelajaran berbasis TOEIC, meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa Inggris dosen, memperkuat jejaring dan kolaborasi, dan meningkatkan kemampuan mengajar TOEIC bagi dosen pendidikan bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi pada kegiatan sharing session for the Toeic Tests ini, sebagian besar peserta memiliki pengetahuan dasar mengenai TOEIC, namun masih terdapat beberapa aspek yang perlu ditingkatkan, terutama terkait pemahaman instruksi, komponen tes, dan durasi waktu pengerjaan. Selain itu, sesi sharing session ini dinilai efektif dan menarik bagi peserta, dengan tingkat kepuasan dan ketertarikan yang sangat tinggi (100%). Dengan adanya hasil tersebut peserta pelatihan mengharapkan lebih banyak pelatihan yang diadakan untuk program pengabdian kepada masyarakat. Abstract

This study examines the effect of learning perception and attitude on students' learning performance while implementing communicative language teaching (CLT) in a vocational college. The quantitative study used a survey research method with a cross-sectional design. 270 students participated in the study selected using a voluntarily random sampling technique. These research respondents were among those who had completed intermediate English classes with the amplification of the CLT method. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a four-point Likert's scaling method from very disagree (1) to very agree (4) (α = 0.843). The obtained data were analyzed using ANOVA with the assistance of IBM SPSS 25. Results showed a significant effect of learning perception (β = .890; F = 1018.849; p = 0.000) and attitude on students’ learning performance (β = .850; F = 698.468; p = 0.000). Among the two, learning attitude had been the more influential factor in students' learning performance during the implementation of CLT. This study suggested that CLT could be a catalyst for learning perception and attitude to elevate students' learning performance in the context of EFL teaching in vocational college.

Abstract

On Time Performance (OTP) merupakan ukuran kinerja dalam memberikan layanan secara tepat waktu. Dalam penerbangan, OTP merupakan hal terpenting yang sangat mempengaruhi kualitas layanan transportasi. Namun informasi ini jarang disampaikan secara real time kepada calon penumpang sehingga manfaat informasi tersebut kurang maksimal bagi para pengguna jasa transportasi udara. Penelitian ini bertujuan membuat desain sistem informasi OTP dengan studi kasus Bandar Udara Internasional Juanda sebagai bandar udara tersibuk ketiga di Indonesia. Desain sistem informasi OTP dibuat dalam bentuk purwarupa website sehingga dapat diakses secara mudah, up to date, lebih detail, dan real time. Dalam perancangan dan pembangunan sistem informasi OTP ini, penulis menggunakan metodeprototype. Alur proses dari metode ini yaitu analisis kebutuhan, perancangan sistem, pengujian sistem, launching sistem, dan evaluasi sistem. Data OTP penerbangan diambil dari PT Angkasa Pura 1 Bandar Udara Juanda Surabaya untuk diolah dan ditampilkan di sistem OTP. Pada evaluasi sistem, dilakukan penilaian kinerja purwarupa sistem informasi OTP ini dengan kerangka kerja PIECES. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa desain sistem informasi OTP sudah cukup baik. Di masa depan, sistem OTP ini dapat diaplikasikan dalam skala yang lebih luas untuk memberikan informasi yang lebih bermanfaat bagi pengguna jasa penerbangan.

Abstract

Online learning is an ideal technological development that is created and improved according to technology within the present educational context. The purpose of this study was to find out motivation, attitude, and readiness, as well as demographic factors in online learning, applied linguistics in the Civil Aviation Polytechnic of Surabaya cadets. The instruments in this study were online learning motivation, online learning readiness and online learning attitudes Likert scale questions cumulated using quantitative method with multiple linear regression. This study utilized a group of 139 Diploma-3 Aeronautical Communication Officer and Diploma-3 Air Traffic Controller cadets. Study results mentioned that attitude to online learning, readiness of online learning, age, gender, and education are all important predictors of the motivation for education. The results showed that the level of education and readiness of online learning were variables that have a considerable effect on motivation. The outcomes of this research cope with students' online learning motivation problems in Aviation English online learning. HIGHLIGHTS: The factor excluded from the model, with findings inverse to the ranking of the model. The age as a predictive measure of online learning motivation increases the contrast between expectations of technical skills. Educational institutions need to prioritize online learning experiences before learning to deal more efficiently with the problem of on-line learning motivation. The contribution of this research is key to enhancing online learning output for cadets in addressing the online learning motivation issue, while educational institutions may use online learning as the most successful learning platform.
