Abstract

Piezoelectric constituents consist of PbZrTiO3 or PZT which contains lead (Pb) hich is industrial waste which is hazardous if it enters the human body. Based on this, the researchers used environmentally friendly kitchen materials in the form of Potassium Bitartrate and Sodium Bicarbonate as a substitute for the original piezoelectric material. Through the experimental method of mixing the two materials, the evaporation and refrigeration methods, amorphous solid forms were obtained. The solid is then coated with aluminum and tested for suitability by measuring the stress of the material before and after being vibrated. The voltage obtained after being vibrated formed an exponential graph with the highest voltage of 0.28 V. Then, the material was tested again for its feasibility in charging the capacitor and the voltage generated by the capacitor was obtained at. 0.0221V. Basic knowledge related to cross-curricular and subject-specific sustainability.

Abstract

Pre-service physics teachers (PSPTs) should have an established argumentation skill, a recognized skill in 21st-century education, to support learning. In line with this, the study explored the argumentation skills of PSPTs using an argumentation framework, Toulmins argument pattern (TAP), to provide a clear view of the argumentation skills of the 39 PSPTs who were involved in a four-meeting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) project. The study employed a mixed method research design in which the quantitative portion investigated the categories of TAP aspects, and the qualitative portion focused on exploring the argumentation patterns of the PSPTs. The data for this study was derived from the STEM project worksheets answered by the pre-service teachers. Quantitative analysis revealed PSPTs' argumentation aspect to be high regarding the claim aspect (97.44%) and data aspect (94.87%). Meanwhile, the warrant aspect (53.85%) is moderate, backing (20.51%) is low, and the rebuttal aspect (2.56%) is deficient. On the other hand, the qualitative analysis showed that PSPTs make four argumentation patterns: claim data (C-D); claim, data warrant (C-D-W); claim, data, warrant, backing (C-D-W-B); and claim, data, rebuttal (C-D-R). Considering TAP, quantitative and qualitative findings imply that PSPTs' argumentation skills still need to be developed, particularly on low-level aspects and in constructing a solid argument following the claim, data, warrant, backing, and rebuttal pattern

Abstract

Abstract

Argumentation skills are crucial for students to analyze and evaluate complex information. This study was conducted to determine the argumentation pattern and quality of students' argumentation through STEM-EDP learning, namely, designing a simple projector challenge. This research was conducted at the Public Junior High School in Samarinda City. The sample in this study consisted of 34 students from grade VIII-4. Data in this study were collected using STEM-EDP-based worksheets that facilitate each stage of EDP, allowing for the collection of data in the form of students' argumentation on the topic of Light and Optical Devices. In the worksheet, students were directed to create a solution to the problem in the given letter, where the solution involves a simple projector. The results of this study indicate that the design of simple projects in STEM-EDP learning could facilitate students to argue, however, based on Toulmin's Argument Pattern (TAP) it was known that the argumentation patterns of students formed only 4 argumentation patterns out of 5 argumentation patterns that should be and the quality of argumentation dominates in low quality, namely at level 1 and level 2. Therefore, a further learning process that involves crafting more complex argumentation is needed.

Abstract

Human resource development is a key focus in the development of the Indonesian capital city. Elementary and secondary schools in Sepaku Regency, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, are the closest buffer zone to the New Capital City. Therefore, the quality of these schools is crucial in facilitating the development of the younger generation around the New Capital City. Adjustments to curriculum documents serve as guidelines for school administration, ensuring the quality of educational services provided. Therefore, training and mentoring in school curriculum development are crucial and have become the aim of this program. The method of this mentoring program was implemented through five phases from 2024 to 2025, with 12 elementary schools and two junior high schools in Sepaku District participating. The mentoring result demonstrated that each school was able to create comprehensive and aligned curriculum documents with a focus on in-depth learning. Challenges encountered during the training process included changes in the number of school representatives present at the training and mentoring activities. In early 2025, there was a shift in the curriculum guidelines toward in-depth learning. The finalization process for mentoring, incorporating key elements of in-depth learning into the curriculum documents, has been completed. It can be concluded that mentoring could support schools to re-focus their curriculum.

Abstract

Water turbidity, often resulting from mining and agricultural activities, poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health. Addressing this issue requires innovative, interdisciplinary approaches. This study explores how the integration of STEM with the Engineering Design Process (STEM-EDP) supports pre-service physics teachers in designing solutions to water turbidity problems.A qualitative descriptive design was employed involving 39 pre-service physics teachers from two classes, organized into seven groups. Participants engaged in a four-session project using STEM-EDP worksheets to design and construct water turbidity meters and filtration devices from accessible materials. Data were collected through open-ended questions capturing students’ learning experiences and analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that participants developed critical and creative thinking, as well as collaboration and communication skills. They demonstrated a deeper understanding of STEM integration by applying concepts such as light scattering and filtration, utilizing smartphone lux meters, and performing calculations related to water discharge and cost efficiency. The STEM-EDP approach enabled students to connect scientific and engineering principles with real-world environmental problems. The study concludes that STEM-EDP is an effective pedagogical approach for enhancing pre-service teachers’ problem-solving abilities and interdisciplinary understanding. Incorporating hands-on, context-based STEM-EDP activities in teacher education programs can better prepare future educators to design meaningful, real-world learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Engineering Design Process (EDP) learning model based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in improving students' ability to apply physics concepts to sustainable energy, particularly in the topics of energy transformation and renewable energy at the senior high school level. This research used a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 33 students of class X at senior high school 1 Muara Bengkal, Indonesia. The instrument used was an essay test based on the context of sustainable energy to measure the ability of students before and after learning. The results showed an increase in the ability of students, with an average pre-test score of 20.61 to 81.67 in the post-test. The N-Gain value obtained was 0.76, including in the high category. In addition, the results of non-parametric statistical tests using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.05), which indicated that the ESD-based EDP model had a significant effect on improving students' abilities. The one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group limits the generalizability of the findings and the extent to which learning gains can be attributed solely to the implemented model. This model encourages learners not only to understand physics concepts but also to relate these concepts to real contexts and design creative solutions that support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The learning approach also promotes responsible decision-making and environmental awareness, which are essential components of sustainable development education. Therefore, the ESD-based EDP model is effectively applied in physics learning to improve the ability to apply physics concepts to sustainable energy.
