Abstract

High consumption of cooking oil has an impact on the availability of used cooking oil. Used cooking oil can cause pollution if the processing is not sound. So we need an alternative as a solution for handling cooking oil waste. Adsorption using avocado seed adsorbent is the choice because the morphological structure and other characteristics meet the specifications for the adsorption of used cooking oil. This study aimed to determine the acid number, viscosity, density and isothermal adsorption from avocado seeds as an adsorbent in used cooking oil. The method used was by varying the adsorbent doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg    L-1 with contact times of 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 minutes. Adsorption was carried out at a temperature of 70oC and a stirring speed of 200 rpm. The results obtained for the acid numbers at various adsorbent doses at 150 minutes reached 6.22, 4.98 and 3.12 mg KOH      g-1. Viscosity at different adsorbents reached 54.2, 46.23 and 45.44 mm2 s-1, while the density reached 898.92, 897.17 and 896.55 kg m-3. Langmuir isothermal adsorption obtained R2 value in the equation reached 0.9365 and Freundlich reached 0.9496, so the Freundlich equation model is more recommended for use in the adsorption process because the regression value is close to 1.

Abstract

Protecting migrant workers' right to social security is essential, not only to ensure equality of treatment in social security for migrant workers but also to extend social security coverage to currently unprotected populations. Migrant workers have become one of the pillars of national economic growth and contributed significantly to state revenues and economic productivity, through high remittances. Therefore, the organizers of employment social security need to increase the probability of migrant workers becoming BPJS Employment participants. By using the logistic regression method and Sakernas data for August 2021, it was found that migrant workers with work contracts and BPJS for health membership have a higher tendency to become participants in employment social security. Recommendations for membership extension for migrant workers can be made with several alternatives such as, (1) justifying or adjusting payment schemes for migrant workers who work in the informal sector abroad (2) encouraging the expansion of the coverage of migrant workers, BPJS for Employment can carry out socialization of the program by collaborating with BP2TKI and Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Agency (P3MI) (3) It is necessary to encourage employers to register their workers in employment social security, through document requirements for the distribution of migrant workers.

Abstract

Gas storage is a technology developed with an adsorptive storage method, in which gases are stored as adsorbed components on the certain adsorbent. Formaldehyde is one of the major indoor gaseous pollutants. Depending on its concentration, formaldehyde may cause minor disorder symptoms to a serious injury. Some of the successful applications of technology for the removal of formaldehyde have been reported. However, this paper presents an overview of several studies on the elimination of formaldehyde that has been done by adsorption method because of its simplicity. The adsorption method does not require high energy and the adsorbent used can be obtained from inexpensive materials. Most researchers used activated carbon as an adsorbent for removal of formaldehyde because of its high adsorption capacity. Activated carbons can be produced from many materials such as coals, woods, or agricultural waste. Some of them were prepared by specific activation methods to improve the surface area. Some researchers also used modified activated carbon by adding specific additive to improve its performance in attracting formaldehyde molecules. Proposed modification methods on activation and additive impregnated carbon are thus discussed in this paper for future development and improvement of formaldehyde adsorption on activated carbon. Specifically, a waste agricultural product is chosen for activated carbon raw material because it is renewable and gives an added value to the materials. The study indicates that the performance of the adsorption of formaldehyde might be improved by using modified activated carbon. Bamboo seems to be the most appropriate raw materials to produce activated carbon combined with applying chemical activation method and addition of metal oxidative catalysts such as Cu or Ag in nano size particles. Bamboo activated carbon can be developed in addition to the capture of formaldehyde as well as the storage of adsorptive hydrogen gas that supports renewable energy. Keywords: adsorption; bamboo; formaldehyde; modified activated carbon; nano size particles

Abstract

Reaction kinetics of catalytic cracking of rubber seed oil to liquid fuels has been investigated. The reac-tion was performed with sulfuric acid as catalyst at temperatures of 350-450 oC and the ratio of oil-catalyst of 0-2 wt.% for 30-90 minutes. Kinetics was studied using the model of 6-lump parameters. The parameters were rubber seed oil, gasoline, kerosene, diesel, gas, and coke. Analysis of experimen-tal data using regression models to obtain reaction rate constants. Activation energies and pre-exponential factors were then calculated based on the Arrhenius equation. The simulation result illus-trated that the six-lump kinetic model can well predict the product yields of rubber seed oil catalytic cracking. The product has high selectivity for gasoline fraction as liquid fuel and the smallest amount of coke. The constant indicates that secondary reactions occurred in diesel products compared to gaso-line and kerosene. The predicted results indicate that catalytic cracking of rubber seed oil had better be conducted at 450 oC for 90 minutes using 0.5 wt.% catalyst. © 2015 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Abstract

The development of the industrial sector in Indonesia has increased very rapidly, especially in the textile industry. The increasing number of industries has an impact on the amount of industrial waste. Congo red dye is one of the dyes that are often used in the textile industry. Industrial dye waste needs to be processed so as not to damage the environment because the substances contained are harmful to the environment. One way that can be used to neutralize dye waste is ozone. Ozone can be used in many fields such as oxidation of inorganic/organic compounds and disinfection (or control of pathogens). H2O2 catalyst is used to accelerate the ozonation process. In this research the variables used were ozonation time (0.15,30,45,60 minutes), pH conditions (5,7,9) and the concentration of H2O2(0,2.5,5,7.5,10) % mass. Based on the research, it was found that the longer the ozonation time, the higher the pH value, and the more H2O2 used, the better the ozonation process results, namely the lower the concentration of dyes, COD, and BOD5 contained in the wastewater.
