Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the phenotypic variation and morphometric profiles of female Madura cattle across different grades in the breeding source area of Pamekasan Regency. A case study method was employed using a purposive sampling technique, involving 120 female Madura cattle aged 30–36 months, healthy, and non-pregnant. Data on qualitative phenotypic traits and morphometric profiles (shoulder height, body length, and chest girth) were analyzed using Chi-square and Q–Q Plot tests. The results showed that the phenotypic variation of female Madura cattle across grades did not differ significantly from the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for Madura cattle (P > 0.05). The percentages of phenotypic conformity to the SNI in grades 1, 2, and 3 were 96.67%, 95.24%, and 93.75%, respectively, while non-conformities were 3.33%, 4.76%, and 6.75%. Morphometric profiles were also consistent with the SNI without significant differences (P > 0.05). However, the mean morphometric values tended to be slightly higher—by 1.72–3.69%—compared to the SNI standard. The Q–Q Plot analysis indicated that morphometric data of female Madura cattle across all grades were normally distributed, with grade 1 showing greater variation than grades 2 and 3.

Abstract

Plasma protein profiles are important indicators that reflect the health, immunological, and physiological status of cattle in relation to their production and reproductive performance. The objective of this study was to determine the total and fractionated protein levels in the plasma of Indonesian Limousin cows and their F1 offspring. The study sample consisted of 15 animals, including Indonesian Limousin cows and their F1 calves. Blood plasma was analyzed in the laboratory using the biuret method (total protein), bromcresol green (albumin concentration), and globulin (difference between total protein and albumin). Laboratory data were analyzed using SPSS 23 ANOVA and further tested using Duncan's test. Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences (P > 0.05) in protein profiles between F1 LLI and F1 BLI. However, F1 calves from the crossbreeding differed significantly (P < 0.05) from the LI dam in total protein and globulin, except for albumin, which showed no significant difference (P > 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that the protein profiles of F1 LLI and F1 BLI are not significantly different, but F1 LLI shows a tendency toward higher total protein and albumin levels and lower globulin levels. Both F1 crossbreeds have significantly lower total protein and globulin levels compared to the Limousin Indonesia parent, with albumin levels also tending to be lower.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of understanding the production performance of local sheep in Indonesia, particularly in Gucialit Village, Lumajang Regency, considering its significant role in meat production. This study aimed to examine the effect of age and sex on the production performance of local sheep, which includes body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height. An observational method with a quantitative approach was employed. Local sheep were grouped based on sex (male and female) and age (<1 year, 1-1.5 years, and 1.5-2 years), followed by measurements of the aforementioned variables. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The results showed that age had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on all sheep production performance variables. As the age of the sheep increased, body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height increased significantly. Sex differences also showed a significant effect on production performance. Male sheep had greater body weight, chest girth, body length, and shoulder height compared to female sheep within the same age group

Abstract

Indonesia has several types of local sheep, including Sapudi sheep. In increasing sheep production and population, it is necessary to pay attention to the reproductive system. The metabolism and physiology of pregnant sheep will experience changes which cause blood components to also change. The research sample was 20 Sapudi ewes from UPT. Livestock Breeding and Forage in Jember. Mother sheep were divided into 5 groups according to their reproductive phase, namely non-pregnant mothers, early pregnancy, mid-pregnancy, late pregnancy, and lactating mothers. The research variables are blood components which include erythrocytes, leukocytes, hemoglobin and hematocrit. The research method is quantitative descriptive which is analyzed using one-way variance, and if it is significantly different, the Duncan test is continued. The results of this study showed significant differences (p<0.05) in hemoglobin, while there were no significant differences in erythrocytes, leukocytes and hematocrit (p>0.05). The average hemoglobin value in the five reproductive phases is between 7.65-10.50 g/dL, erythrocytes 5.78-6.95 106/mm3, leukocytes 8.05-13.71 106/µL, and hematocrit 24.35 -29.70%.

Abstract

Most Producing Production Ability (MPPA), also known as Expected Production Ability (EPA) in dairy cattle, indicates the ability to produce milk that can be passed down to offspring. The objective of this study is to obtain the repeatability values of morning and evening milk production in the second and fourth lactations of Friesian Holstein (FH) dairy cows as a basis for estimating MPPA values, ranking, and the relationship of milk production in livestock. This case study uses a sample determined by purposive sampling technique, focusing on cows with recorded second and fourth lactations. The research was conducted at a local dairy farm in the Pujon area of Malang Regency. The sample consisted of 12 cows with the same day, month, and lactation period. Data were analyzed using variance analysis, correlation, and regression. The results showed that the repeatability value of morning milk production ranged from 0,63 to 0,99, categorized as high, while the repeatability of evening milk production ranged from 0,39 to 0,99, categorized as moderate to high. The MPPA values from the study ranged from 3.602 liters per cow to 10,811 liters per cow (morning milk production) and from 1,237 liters/cow to 5,024 liters/cow (evening milk production). The ranking of cattle based on MPPA morning milk production ranged from 1 to 7. The relationship between morning and evening milk production is represented by the equation Y = 0,6213, X = 1,7587 with a determination coefficient of 88,68%.
