Abstract

The productivity of upland rice on sub-optimal land such as Ultisol is low. Increasing rice productivity can be attempted, for example, by applying rice husk zeolite and K fertilizer. This research aims to study the interaction of rice husk zeolite with K fertilizer on the growth and yield of upland rice on Ultisol. The research was conducted at the Soil and Greenhouse Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, from June to October 2022. The research was conducted experimentally in a factorial with a completely randomized design (CRD). The first factor was rice husk zeolite consisting of 3 levels (0, 200, and 400 kg ha-1), and the second factor was K fertilizer consisting of 3 levels (0, 50, and 100 kg K2O ha-1), each interaction repeated three times. The results showed that the combination value of rice husk zeolite at a dose of 200 kg ha-1 with K fertilizer at a dose of 50 kg K2O ha-1 increased the number of healthy grains per panicle by 21%, the proportion of healthy grain by 14% and the weight of dry milled grain by 32.25% compared to without rice husk zeolite and K fertilizer.

Abstract

This research aims to understand the interaction between Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) and zeolite fly ash (FA) from coal and their impact on soybean productivity in Podzolic soil. The study was conducted in Aur Sakti Village, Tambang District, Kampar Regency, and the Soil Science Laboratory and Plant Ecophysiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, over a four-month period from March to June 2022. The experiment employed a completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors: FA zeolite doses (Z0-Z3) and AMF doses (M0-M2). The results of the study indicate that the interaction of AMF Glomus sp or Gigaspora sp at 10 g per plant with FA zeolite at a dose of 1.5 g per plant enhances plant growth and soybean yield most optimally. FA zeolite at a dose of 1 g per plant also effectively improves soybean yield in terms of the weight of 100 seeds. Specifically, the application of FA zeolite at a dose of 1.5 g per plant yields the best results in terms of plant height, number of productive branches, flowering and harvesting age, number of seeds per plant, weight of seeds per plant, and weight of 100 seeds, compared to treatments without zeolite, with zeolite FA doses of 0.5 and 1 g per plant. The application of AMF Glomus sp and Gigaspora sp, each at 10 g per plant, also enhances the growth and yield of soybeans compared to treatments without AMF.

Abstract

Lack of education in waste management has led to a large amount of waste being dumped in landfills. Organic waste is the largest type of waste disposed of in landfills. If organic waste is not managed properly, it can cause unpleasant odors in the environment and become a risk factor for global warming and explosions in landfills. This is also the case in RW 02 Air Putih Village. The community directly disposes of household waste without sorting the waste by type. In addition, the community also does not know how to process organic waste into useful items such as eco-enzyme and the products of eco-enzyme processing, namely liquid cleaning soap. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills on how to process household organic waste into eco-enzyme and cleaning liquid soap made from eco-enzyme as an effort to ground eco-enzyme. The targets in this activity are housewives in RT 01, RT 02, and RT 03, RW 02 Air Putih Village, Tuah Madani Subdistrict. The method used in this community service activity is socialization and training on how to make eco-enzyme and multipurpose cleaning liquid. The results obtained from this activity are the increased knowledge and skills of the community in processing household organic waste into eco-enzyme and liquid cleaning soap.

Abstract

Gold snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.) is the main pest of rice plants in Empat Balai Village, Kuok District, Kampar Regency. Farmers in Empat Balai Village experience gold snail infestation every year, which has an impact on production. The purpose of community service activities is to conduct community service by counseling and controlling carp pests in rice fields by utilizing local wisdom in Empat Balai Village. The methods in this service are survey, consolidation, counseling and field practice. The counseling was held at Mushallah Miftahul Jannah in Pulau Empat Hamlet, while the field practice was at the farmer’s house and rice fields in Empat Balai Village. The material provided was about bioecology and how to control the carp snail pest. It was emphasized that the recommended control carp pests are the management of carp pests in the egg phase, because one group of eggs has 500 eggs and control is easier in the egg phase. Control in the egg phase includes making drainage or small ditches, installing bamboo stakes so that the snails lay their eggs there, and collecting the eggs once a week. In the snail phase, involves setting up attractant plant traps (gadung tuber leaf, papaya leaf, and banana leaf), kalambuai traps (kaltrap), installing of irrigated nets, utilizing ducks, and vegetable molluscicides. In addition, preventive measure was taken, such as planting older seedlings. The farmers were very enthusiastic about this activity. As a result, farmers gained additional knowledge about gold snail pests and how to control them, improve farmers skills on gold snail pests control methods by utilizing local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of N, P, K, and Mg fertilization on improving growth parameters and productivity of oil palm plants subjected to over-pruning. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized split-plot design with two factors: pruning treatment as the main factor and N, P, K, and Mg fertilization as the second factor. The observed parameters included the number of female inflorescences, number of male inflorescences, sex ratio, number of fruit bunches, bunch weight, fresh fruit weight, fresh fruit volume, mesocarp thickness, and fruit lipid content. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at the 5% significance level. The results showed that the P1 treatment, representing normal pruning, combined with the N3 fertilization treatment improved several growth and productivity parameters, including the number of female inflorescences (5.02), number of fruit bunches (5.83), sex ratio (60.12%), fruit bunch weight (20.40 kg), fresh fruit weight (12.43 g), mesocarp thickness (3.93 mm), fresh fruit volume (12.59 mL), and fresh fruit lipid content (20.21%). In contrast, over-pruning tended to increase the number of male inflorescences (4.00), indicating a decline in the reproductive performance of the plants. In conclusion, normal pruning and the application of N, P, K, and Mg fertilizers significantly improved the growth and productivity of oil palm plants affected by over-pruning, particularly by increasing the number of female inflorescences, number of fruit bunches, sex ratio, fruit bunch weight, fresh fruit weight, mesocarp thickness, fresh fruit volume, and fresh fruit lipid content.
