Abstract

Over time, as secularization took root in Black churches during the CivilRights era, the prevalent framework in understanding African Americanspirituality discourse has shifted from theology to sociology. This paper tries to discern this major shift from the black literature perspective. It aims to discuss the main charachers' paradoxical state of mind in understanding God in the novel The Color Purple. The 1982 Pulitzer Prize for fiction winner is organized around an intimate conversation between two female characters, Celie and Shug Avery, whose understanding of God were challanged by complexity of sexism and racism in the black family. A sociological approach is adopted to understand the characters' dynamic concept of God. Discussion in this paper suggested that Alice Walker's naturalist theology is embodied in Celie and Shug Avery’s conceptualizationof God in the novel. Keywords: Black Theology, The Color Purple, God in Black Literature.

Abstract

This study is performed based on concerns that knowledge dichotomy in traditional Islamic boarding schools has not received the serious attention it deserves. In contrast to modern pesantren where santri receives both religious and non-religious knowledge, most traditional pesantren in Jekulo, Kudus regency only emphasizes religious knowledge as their core curriculum. Our preliminary study in 2022 suggested that the majority of student santri in Jekulo, Kudus regency showed unfavorable perceptions towards pursuing higher education despite being offered financial aid and academic mentorship. Our current task is to introduce film-based intervention and document its effect on santri's perception change towards academic success. Although the use of film-based intervention to change perception and reduce stigma has been profound in the field of clinical psychology, its application in a nonclinical setting is still understudied. Using Social Comparison Theory (Festinger, 1954) as our analytical framework, we propose that historical film can be introduced as an alternative point of reference for our subject. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling (n=20). Pre- and post-studies are provided to document santri's perception change toward striving for academic success. The results of this study confirm that film intervention can act as positive stimuli in the process of perception changes among santri by presenting relatable cinematic historical experiences as an alternative social reference. However, a lack of a role model and a shared perception toward academic success in santri's immediate environment can hinder the process

Abstract

Background: The majority of cesarean section deliveries use spinal anesthesia which can have an effect on the deterioration of the gastrointestinal system so that intestinal peristalsis becomes slow. Slow intestinal peristaltic function leads to difficulty defecation and prolongs the day of treatment, in some cases can increase the risk of paralytic ileus. To prevent the risk of complications, intervention can be carried out in postoperative cesarean section patients with early mobilization. This study aims to determine the effect of early mobilization on intestinal peristaltic recovery in post- cesarean section patients. Subjects and Method: This was a quasy experiment conducted at Islamic Hospital in Demak, Central Java, from July to December 2024. A sample of 58 post-cesarean section mothers was selected using purposive sampling and divided into two groups. Assessment of intestinal peristaltic variables through auscultation examination with a stethoscope and early mobilization using observation sheet instruments. Intestinal peristaltic recovery between two groups were examined logistic regression. Results: There was a difference in intestinal peristaltic recovery in post- cesarean section patients between the intervention group and the control group (p=0.000) with the mean value of intestinal peristalsis in the intervention group of 25.45 (SD=6.07) and in the control group of 11.38 (SD=7.69). Patients who were given early mobilization had a 4.48 times faster chance of recovery of intestinal peristalsis. Conclusion: Early mobilization had a positive impact on the recovery of intestinal peristaltic (p<0.05). Health workers should not only provide education, but also assistance in the implement-tation of early mobilization, especially in the first 24 hours post- cesarean section. Keywords: early mobilization, intestinal peristaltics, post cesarean section.

Abstract

Students often struggle to understand scientific concepts due to their abstract nature and the limited use of interactive learning media. This study aims to develop 3D mock-up media for learning about the respiratory system in elementary schools. The research adopts an R&D approach using the ADDIE development model. The study participants included one teacher and 25 fifth-grade students from SDN 3 Ngeling. Data collection methods encompassed observation, interviews, questionnaires, as well as pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to assess the feasibility of the product. The results of the validity test from the media validator obtained a score of 98.6% and 97.3% with a very valid category. In comparison, the material's validity test achieved a 97.75% result, placing it in a very valid category. This shows that this media is valid for use in research. In addition, the results of the student and teacher questionnaires also showed positive results, respectively 95% and 96% with a very good category, thus indicating that this media is feasible and effective for use in learning the respiratory system. The results of the paired sample T-test, with N-Gain values of 0.000 and 0.662, indicate differences and improvements in student learning outcomes. As a follow-up, it is expected that 3D mock-up media can be combined with digital technology to improve students' learning experiences.

Abstract

Language is a crucial aspect of life for communicating, expressing feelings, and building relationships with others. In literature, language and context are interconnected; pragmatics helps reveal the hidden meaning behind the text. In the context of pragmatic, films not only show futuristic narratives, but it also shows how dialogue and interaction between characters are used to convey deeper meaning. The language that is often used in a literary work is usually a style of figurative language. This research refers to Laurence Perrine’s theory on identifying and analyzing the types of figurative language and exploring their functions in supporting narrative meaning and characterization in the film Ex Machina. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The primary data used in this study is the film Ex Machina and secondary data were obtained from articles, journals, and previous study. Data collection technique is carried out by watching the movie, reading movie script and then, analyzed to find types and function of each figurative language used. From the research that has been done it can be concluded that the types of figurative language found in the Ex Machina film are Allegory, Hyperbole, Irony, Metaphor, Metonymy, Paradox, Personification, Simile, Symbol, and Synecdoche which are more dominantly appearing are metaphor and hyperbole. Meanwhile, the functions found in figurative language in the Ex Machina film not only function as aesthetic decoration, but also to provide imaginative pleasure, add emotional intensity, create meaning in a short compass, and to provide additional meaning related to philosophical issues such as artificial consciousness and human identity. The Ex Machina film raises the theme of artificial intelligence, consciousness, and ethics in creating technology. Keywords: Pragmatic, Figurative Language, Ex Machina Movie.

Abstract

Women’s struggles against patriarchy remain a crucial subject in feminist and postcolonial scholarship, yet limited attention has been given to how cinema contributes to theorizing subaltern subjectivity. This study addresses the gap by analyzing North Country (2005) through feminist criticism and postcolonial theory, particularly Spivak’s concept of the subaltern. The purpose is to examine how women’s silenced voices in patriarchal structures are represented and how subaltern subjectivity transforms into political agency. Using qualitative textual and film analysis, the study integrates Spivak’s subalternity with Butler’s performativity, Foucault’s disciplinary power, Fraser’s redistribution and recognition, and Mohanty’s transnational feminism. Findings show that the mine functions as a patriarchal microcosm, but resistance and solidarity enable women to reclaim voice and agency, redefining the feminist maxim “the personal is political” and extending its resonance transnationally. The study concludes that North Country (2005) is a cultural artifact dramatizing the journey “from subaltern to subject,” underscoring cinema’s role as a theoretical production.
