Abstract

Teenagers have an important role to develop the village into a tourist village. One of the roles is to develop existing facilities and infrastructure at tourist sites. Information boards are a very important part of tourism villages’s management because it can be the information about tourist attractions, restrictions and warnings. Therefore, training and mentoring in making information boards in English and Indonesian need to be done in Bendosari Village, Plantungan District, Kendal Regency because of the limited number of information boards at tourist sites, especially in Jeglong Waterfall. The method used in the training is lecture, question and answer and practice. Participants in the training and mentoring activities for the making of this information board were the teenagers of Bendosari Village.  The outcomes generated from these training activities are 1) teenagers 'understanding of the importance of information boards at tourist sites increases, 2) teenagers' understanding of the phrases used on information boards both in English and in Indonesian also increases, 3) models of information boards for tourist sites are created, and 4) nformation boards in English and Indonesian language for tourist sites are created as well

Abstract

AbstractThe success of tourism village development is influenced by many factors. The involvement of the community and all the supporting elements in developing the tourism village becomes the main factor in determining the success of the tourism village itself. Therefore, community empowerment becomes an alternative solution as an effort to develop tourism village. Bendosari village located in Plantungan District, Kendal Regency is a tourist destination that begins ogled by the tourists because this village has an interesting tourism potential named Curug Jeglong. it is surrounded by pine forests around it. The most enabling empowerment for Bendosari Village teenagers to support the success of a tourism village development is a tour guide. However, the knowledge and skills that the teenagers have in terms of guidance and English for tour guide is very limited, so it is necessary to conduct guidance and English training for tour guides. The methods used in this training were lecture, discussion, question and answer, drilling, and role play. The results achieved from this activity are 1) the understanding of training participants on the guided tourism improve and 2) from English-language training for tour guide, simple English expressions have been mastered. Keywords: teenager empowerment, tourism village, tour guideAbstrakKeberhasilan pengembangan desa wisata dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor. Pelibatan masyarakat dan semua elemen pendukung dalam mengembangkan desa wisata menjadi faktor utama penentu kesuksesan desa wisata itu sendiri. Oleh karena itu, pemberdayaan masyarakat menjadi solusi alternatif sebagai upaya untuk mengembangkan desa wisata. Desa Bendosari yang terletak di wilayah Kecamatan Plantungan Kabupaten Kendal merupakan destinasi wisata yang mulai dilirik oleh para wisatawan karena desa ini memiliki potensi wisata yang menarik bernama Curug Jeglong yang dikelilingi hutan pinus di sekelilingnya. Pemberdayaan yang paling memungkinkan bagi remaja Desa Bendosari untuk menunjang keberhasilan pengembangan desa wisata adalah pemandu wisata. Namun, pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang dimiliki remaja dalam hal keepemanduwisataan dan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata sangat terbatas, sehingga perlu diadakan pelatihan kepemanduwisataan dan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, drilling, dan role play. Hasil yang dicapai dari kegiatan ini, yaitu pemahaman peserta pelatihan tentang kepemanduwisataan meningkat. Dari kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris bagi pemandu wisata, kemampuan bahasa Inggris sederhana telah mereka kuasai dengan baik.Kata Kunci: pemberdayaan remaja, desa wisata, pemandu wisata

Abstract

The study aims to find the right PIESQ Training material model to fit the demands of the time while adhering to the Universitas PGRI Semarang’s identity. The goal of the first year is to identify the perception and impact of training on the quality of student’s Physic, Intellectual, Emotional, and Spiritual (PIES). To achieve its goal, the study employs a research and development approach (Research and Development - R & D). The study will be held at the University of PGRI Semarang with a population of all students of the Universitas PGRI Semarang who have participated in the PIESQ Training and the sample was taken purposive sampling. Overall, students' impressions of the PIESQ Management 3.0 training were positive, according to data analysis results. Despite the small sample size, a few people have complained that the training itself is tedious and boring. There were still a few respondents who said that the materials were out of date.

Abstract

Modern English instruction must show a developing strategy to motivate and inspire pupils. Introducing games into the teaching and learning process is an option for reducing student boredom. The game of Charade is one alternate teaching strategy that can be used to teach English writing and improve students' writing skills. This study utilized the Charade game as a teaching method for writing. Utilizing a pre-test and post-test, a quasi-experimental research method was implemented. 30 students were assigned to each of the control and experimental groups, for a total of 60. After a series of interventions, students' writing skills were assessed. The outcome of quantitative data analysis was performed using SPSS 25. Compared to the control group, the experimental group demonstrates a considerable change and improvement in writing skills. The significant improvement of the experimental group demonstrates the efficacy of the Charade game as a method for teaching writing.

Abstract

This research aims to discover the altruistic actions performed by Shoya Ishida in the film Koe no Katachi. This study also aims to determine whether altruistic actions can explain educational values. This research is qualitative. The research data is from Shoya Ishida's altruistic actions in the film Koe no Katachi. Data collection techniques using documentation. At the same time, data analysis is done by collecting, reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions. The study's results stated that Shoya Ishida had carried out altruistic actions that impacted the growth of his friends. This altruistic action can be used as an example of a simple action that can change the lives of others, especially the educational process. The research results also show how important it is to listen and be heard, have empathy, and act to help others and yourself by truly taking action to spread and pursue knowledge so that others can share the same understanding and the same vision to improve humanity as a whole and support each other for the greater good.

Abstract

This final project studied the grammatical errors made by the students of 10th MIPA 2 SMA N 1 Cepiring. The objectives of the study were (1) To describe 4 types of grammatical errors in writing descriptive text made by the students of X MIPA 2 SMA N 1 Cepiring based on Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982) theory, (2) To find out what grammatical errors are dominantly made by the students, (3) To describe how teachers minimize the students’ grammatical errors. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the research were 10th MIPA 2 SMA N 1 Cepiring. The instrument of the study were test and interview. To identify the data of errors, the writer used the theory of Dulay, Burt, and Krashen (1982), for the interview the writer used Miles and Huberman (1994) theory which consists of 3 steps: Data Reduction, Data Display, and Conclusion Drawing. The result of this research showed that: (1) the number of each errors are: errors of omission found 8 errors with 20,5% grammatical errors percentage, errors of addition found 9 errors with 23,1% grammatical errors percentage, errors of misformation found 15 errors with 38,5% grammatical errors percentage, and the last one errors of misordering found 7 errors with 17,9% grammatical errors percentage; (2) the dominant types of errors was the errors of misformation with 38,5% percentage; (3) The results of the interviews show that to minimize students' errors is by giving more practice in making sentences which focus on grammar or tense and emphasizing to the students that is normal for having some mistakes so that the students become confident of their works.

Abstract

Writing used to express and to communicate some ideas. The score of students’ narrative writing skill of eighth graders of one state junior high school in Semarang is under of minimum criteria. The English standard minimum score is 75. Objectives of this research are to know how great Dot Voting technique can improve students’ eighth graders learning motivation in class and to know how high Dot Voting technique increasement of students’ narrative writing skill at the eighth graders of one state junior high school in Semarang. Classroom action research is the research type. The research was conducted in class VIII D of one state junior high school in Semarang. This research used non-test and test instruments to collect the data. The non-test instruments are observation sheet and documentation. The writer used quantitative data in analyzing the data. In first cycle and second cycle, the students have better enthusiasm and participation to follow the activities. At pre-cycle test, their writing average score reached 65.74. In first cycle test when the writer applied the action the students’ writing average score is 74.87 or improves 9.13. In second cycle test, their writing average score reaches 82.09. It means that it improves 7.22 from the first cycle. In second cycle indicates that the teaching process is successful. Based on the result, firstly, to English teachers to use interesting teaching technique in teaching especially in writing skill is Dot Voting technique. Secondly, to students to enrich their narrative text writing skill by using Dot Voting.

Abstract

This research delves into students' writing abilities, emphasizing the impact of utilizing clustering techniques in teaching descriptive text. The study aims to achieve three objectives: firstly, to assess the writing proficiency of students instructed without clustering techniques; secondly, to gauge the writing proficiency of students taught using clustering techniques; and thirdly, to determine the significant disparity in writing abilities between these two teaching methods. Employing a quasi-experimental quantitative design with pre- and post-tests, the research involves two distinct groups: one exposed to the clustering approach and the other to traditional instruction. Junior high school students in Semarang serves as the research setting, encompassing class VIII students. Data collection spanned eight sessions and encompassed pre-tests, treatment, and post-tests. The experimental group comprised 31 students, while the control group had 32 students. Analysis of the pre- and post-test results revealed noteworthy insights. Students in the control group exhibited a marginal decrease in average scores, from an initial 62.34 to 60.59, following conventional instruction. This contrasts with the experimental group, where clustering techniques potentially facilitated a more positive trajectory in writing skills. The study underscores the potential benefits of integrating clustering methods in teaching descriptive text, potentially enhancing students' written expression capabilities.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is aimed at developing printed teaching materials with a pragmatic perspective for college students. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative by sharing questionnaire made with google form through the WhatsApp group of two classes. The unit of analysis was the responses of 40 students from 2 classes. This research was based on a qualitative analysis of the students' responses. From the responses, it can be concluded that teaching materials have a very vital role and function in the learning process. Therefore, teaching materials should be designed and developed in such a way that they are adapted to the existing curriculum and also to the needs of students. In this research, researchers will develop an English teaching material with pragmatic perspective which are able to help English learners reach the expected communicative competence. In total, there are five sections that were asked to students. Those five sections are, 1) Textbook availability, 2) Textbook Visual, 3) Textbook Contents, 4) The Textbook Currently Being Used, and 5) Text Selections.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan LMS Forum dalam pembelajaran Academic Writing dan mendeskripsikan hasil refleksi mahasiswa tentang penerapan Collaborative Writing Berbasis Forum LMS. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas PGRI Semarang yang sedang menempuh semester empat Tahun Academik 2022-2023. Respondent dari penelitian ini sebanyak 24 mahasiswa, dan teknik penentuan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Google form digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data penelitian. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa Collaborative Writing Berbasis Forum LMS dapat menjadi alternatif untuk mengembangkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis Academic Writing yang dapat dilaksanakan dalam empat tahap: tahap awal, implementasi, koreksi kelompok, dan tahap akhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan Collaborative Writing melalui Forum LMS menjadi kegiatan pembelajaran yang paling disukai oleh mahasiswa. Namun demikian, beberapa kendala terjadi ketika Collaborative Writing Berbasis Forum LMS diterapkan. Kendala tersebut dialami oleh mahasiswa, yaitu diantaranya koneksi internet dan aktivitas scroll up and down Forum LMS yang memerlukan waktu lebih untuk dilakukan. Sementara itu, agar komunikasi antara mahasiswa dan dosen dapat berjalan dengan baik, maka diperlukan aplikasi tambahan untuk mendukung implementasi Collaborative Writing Berbasis Forum LMS agar tujuan pembelajaran dapat dicapai secara maksimal.
