Abstract

Demoralization occured in school life. Teachers as the person incharge of the students?óÔé¼Ôäó education in school must find the way out to demolish the demoralization. Character Education needs to be developed in school to maintain students?óÔé¼Ôäó behaviour. Character Building is important to be developed in the learning process. The development of Character Building is integrated into subject matters in elementary schools. Teachers should be involved in the character education for students. In running the process of learning, instructional materials are needed. Syllabus and lesson plan are parts of the instructional materials. Teachers are not only responsible for educating students in school but also responsible for building students?óÔé¼Ôäó characters through the material they deliver. Character Buildings are integrated in the syllabus and lesson plan in order that the students can apply the moral values from the material they learn in their daily lifes. The syllabus and lesson plan improvement with all the potency can be used for supporting the effectivity of character education implementation which is becoming the prior attention. Teachers should know more about students personality and what students need in the learning process. Teachers can improve their skills in making syllabus and lesson plans based character education by joining this workshop. Teachers need to be ?óÔé¼?ôan up-date?óÔé¼?Ø person in giving materials and delivering the moral values to build the students?óÔé¼Ôäó character. Through the program of repetition drills and monitoring, teachers can learn more about syllabus based character education to fulfill the students?óÔé¼Ôäó need. Syllabus based character education has to be used for imprasing the character education in order for gaining teachers?óÔé¼Ôäó and students?óÔé¼Ôäó creativity.Key words: Syllabus, Character Buildings.

Abstract

AbstractGlenn Doman is one of the fascinating learning medias for teaching vocabularies to children. This media fosters the students to memorize the words quickly, in this case is the English words. The children?óÔé¼Ôäós eagerness to learn can be fostered by applying this media of playing and learning in their spare time. Parents can easily adopt the media by making of their own, using the things in their surrounding. The quick children memorization can be occurred by showing the children the letters in the card and then asking the children to utter the words in the cards several times. This media has been acknowledged to Sendangguwo Women Association. This media provides children with interesting and fun way for learning English vocabularies at home.Key Words: Glenn Doman, Teaching English, VocabularyAbstrakGlenn Doman adalah salah satu media pembelajaran yang menarik untuk mengajar kosakata anak-anak. Keinginan anak-anak untuk belajar dapat dipupuk dengan menerapkan media bermain dan belajar di waktu luang mereka. Orang tua dapat dengan mudah mengadopsi media dengan membuat media mereka sendiri, menggunakan hal-hal di sekitar mereka. Hafalan anak-anak cepat dapat terjadi dengan menunjukkan anak-anak huruf dalam kartu, kemudian meminta anak mengucapkan kata-kata dalam kartu beberapa kali. Abstract

This research aimed: 1) to identify the implementation of scientific approach in English teaching at SMP N 1 Gringsing, 2) to identify the problems faced by the teachers and students implementing scientific approach in English teaching, and 3) to know the teachers’ solutions of the problems. The method used in this final project is descriptive qualitative. The writer used observation sheet and documentation gotten by recording the activities, and the lesson plan of the teachers in collecting data. The result of the analysis shows: 1) the implementation of scientific approach in teaching learning process at SMP N 1 Gringsing Batang is running well, although the five steps are not working well because the time was not enough to finish all of steps of scientific approach in one meeting. 2) the problems in teaching learning process were divided into two parts.  The first was problems of the teachers. Here, the first teacher often forgot to give apperception in the opening step as stated in the lesson plan. The teachers found the students were less active in learning process of questioning step. Moreover, the teachers gave same instruction in exploring and associating step by giving same questions but different pattern (written and orally). Then, the teachers were lack in the media of teaching learning process, so it made students bored. The second was problems faced by the students that they were being nervous, afraid, or ashamed if they made a mistake in arranging the question or sentence, and show their work. Sometimes they felt difficult when they found new vocabularies. 3) there were some solutions made by the teachers to solve the problems. They corrected the students’ pronunciation and wrong sentence. The teachers let students to open their dictionary to find the meaning of difficult words. Furthermore, they gave motivation to the students that they should be more active in the teaching and learning process. In addition, the teachers gave punishment by giving questions to students who did not focus in learning process and the students were asked to write what they had learnt on that day in “My Journal”. It was to know the students’ development. Finally, the teachers should improve the techniques in learning process, so the students can receive the material easily.

Abstract

In the 2020 era, the corona pandemic has caused many impacts throughout the country that are very broad in all fields, including education. Learners and lecturers are no exception affected by the pandemic, and always strive to be able to carry out teaching and learning activities that can cover deficiencies in the field. Based on the current complex learning and living background, this article discuss the autonomous learning mode of College English learners, puts forward the discussion of constructing strategy from self-assessment to improve autonomous learning mode of college English in writing classess. In discussing this article, the writer used theoretical review and qualitative document methods which were observations, data collection, data processing, revisions, and documentation. Then, it can be concluded that the results of research on self-assessment can improve learner autonomy so that learners can get the ease from online writing classes during the pandemic and in the future from direct methods (face to face) learning more beneficially

Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper attempts to analyze the test items in the English National Final Examination (UAN) for Junior High School Students in the academic year 2009/2010. This study aims at analyzing the compatibility of the test items of package A in reading and writing section of English National Final Examination for Junior High School Students with the standard of graduate competence and the cognitive domains used in the test. The data were collected by using documentary method, while in analyzing the data the writers focused on matching the compatibility of the test items with the Standard of Graduate Competence and identifying the cognitive domain used. From the analysis, it was found that the test items of package A in reading and writing section of English National Final Examination 2009/2010 were in line with the Standard of Graduate Competence (SKL) arranged by the government. The cognitive domains in reading section mostly used level of comprehension. The cognitive domains in writing section used the application and the synthesis level. ?é?á Key words: analysis, test items, national final examination

Abstract

The study aims at knowing the use of technology in teaching learning process of pre-service teachers of English Study Program of Universitas PGRI Semarang. The subjects of the study are the eight semester students which are Pre-service teachers of the English Study Program of Universitas PGRI Semarang in the academic year 2018/2019. The instrument used in the study is questionnaire. The techniques used in the study are sharing the questionnaire to the eight semester students through WhatsApp to know what kinds of technology used by them are and interview to know how their perception of the use of technology in teaching learning process is. The qualitative data are analyzed by reducing the data, classifying the data and drawing conclusion. The result of the study shows that Pre-service teachers tend to use same kinds of technology in teaching learning process, and they have an opinion that technology is really important for the teachers and for students.

Abstract

This study is an attempt to reveal the implementation of Covid 19 memes in teaching descriptive text for secondary high school students in Tahunan Jepara. In addition, this study also aims to find out the problems the students face during the process of implementing the memes for teaching writing. Since Covid 19 pandemic hinder everyone to gather in a period of time, so it is possible for the researchers to process this research online. It means that the distribution of instrument for collecting the data is done online. The data for this descriptive qualitative study were taken from both the students and the English teacher. 32 students were involved in this study. Questionnaire was distributed to students to gain some information related to the problems they experienced during the process of learning, while indirect interview was given only to the teacher to know how he or she implemented the Covid 19 memes for teaching descriptive text. The data were then processed by elaborating them descriptively. Then, the researchers did data reduction, data display and as final step the researchers draw conclusion of all. The results showed that Covid 19 memes inspired the students for ideas for writing descriptive text. It was exactly 88% students said so. While the rest of 12% said otherwise.  Related to the problems in learning using Covid 19 memes, 78% students did not have any problems with it. While the rest of it said that they had problems in naming the terms (13%), in understanding the meme’s content (6%), and in elaborating ideas in English sentences (3%)

Abstract

The utterances produced by people have speech acts, especially in the English teaching learning process. One of them is directive speech acts. Thus, this study aimed at identifying the directive speech acts and its functions in teaching vocabulary of the eight grade students of MTs Husnul Khatimah in the academic year 2011-2012. This study was carried out under a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were taken from the eighth grade students. The sample of the study was 30 students. The writers conducted the study in one meeting when the class was studying vocabularies in a recount text. The data were collected by recording the utterances produced by the teacher and the students. Then, the writer transcribed the record of the data. It was analyzed by identifying directive speech acts of the utterances and describing the functions of the directive speech acts. The writers found that there are twenty directives speech acts during the teaching learning process. All of them are imperatives or commands. The teacher uttered twenty-three orders to the students, while the students uttered one request to the teacher. The teacher directive speech acts have functions as a command, permission, prohibition and encouragement to the students.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan aplikasi pembelajaran dalam Pelatihan English for Academic Purpose (EAP) di Universitas PGRI Semarang pada masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah yang dialami peserta Pelatihan EAP di Universitas PGRI Semarang pada masa pandemi COVID-19. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh peserta Pelatihan EAP Universitas PGRI Semarang. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner. dan kuesioner disusun menggunakan Google Form. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis membagi tautan kuesioner melalui grup WhatsApp. Data penelitian ini dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis kualitatif, yakni reducing data, displaying data, dan drawing conclusion. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Pelatihan EAP Universitas PGRI Semarang menggunakan tiga aplikasi pembelajaran daring selama masa pandemi COVID-19, yaitu Google form, WhatsApp, dan aplikasi iSpring Suite. Hasil penelitian yang lain yaitu mahasiswa mengalami berbagai kendala dalam menggunakan aplikasi pembelajaran daring pada Pelatihan EAP selama masa pandemi COVID-19. Kendalanya utamanya adalah ketersediaan jaringan internet.Abstract:  The current study aims at describing the implementation of Learning Application in the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in COVID-19 pandemic era and at identifying the students’ obstacles in using the teaching application in the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in the era of COVID-19 pandemic. The approach of the study is a descriptive qualitative research. The population of the study is all participants of the Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang. The instrument used in the study was a questioner. In collecting the data, the writers shared a link of the questioner through WhatsApp Group. The data was analyzed by reducing the data, displaying the data and drawing conclusion. The result of the study shows that there are three applications which have been implemented in Training of English for Academic Purpose (EAP) in Universitas PGRI Semarang in COVID-19 pandemic era, namely Google form, WhatsApp, and iSpring Suite application. The students encountered some problems in using the application in the training. They are mostly due to the availability of internet networking.
