Abstract

Antacids dosage form are a class of drugs used to chemically bind and neutralize stomach acid. Simethicone is one of the antacids that works as an antiflatulant. In an effort to guarantee the quality of a preparation, a valid analysis method is needed that meets the validation parameters. This study aims to modified of extraction method of the simethicone content of suspension samples using the FTIR method. The methods include simethicone modification of extraction from suspension preparations with toluene solvents and hydrochloric acid (2:5) 3.35. Validation methods include: determination of precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) at wave number 1261 cm-1 and determination of the content of samples of simethicone suspension. The results showed that linearity parameters with a correlation coefficient of 0.997 in a concentration range of 1000-10,000 ppm, precision with a value of KV <2%, LOD and LOQ, respectively 378.97 and 1250.59 ppm. The results of the determination of simethicone suspension samples indicate that this method met the requirements of the validation parameters.Keywords: Validation, Simethicone, Infrared Spectrophotometry, antacid

Abstract

High doses of ascorbic acid have been commercially available as adjuvant. However, the pharmacologicalimportance of this supplement is yet questionable. The aim of this study is to investigate the 24 hours excretion profile of ascorbic acid after oral administration of 500 mg single dose in healthy volunteer. The urine samples were collected at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 24 hours after administration. The samples were extracted with trichloroacetic acid, followed by colorimetric measurement. The excretion profile showed a curve with concentrations of 14.4, 15.2, 15.6, 14.9, and 14.2% at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 24 hours, respectively. This suggests that 74.3% of ascorbic acid to be excreted via urine as an excessive amount and a high adjuvant dosage should be reconsidered.Key words: Ascorbic acid, oral administration, single dose, excretion profileProfil Ekskresi 500 mg Asam Askorbat dalam Saluran Urin pada Orang Dewasa SehatAbstrakAsam askorbat dosis tinggi telah tersedia secara komersil sebagai suplemen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui profil ekskresi asam askorbat selama 24 jam setelah pemberian oral 500 mg dosis tunggal pada sukarelawan sehat. Sampel urin dikumpulkan pada jam ke-2, 4, 6, 8, dan 24 setelah pemberian. Sampel diekstraksi dengan asam trikloroasetat lalu diukur dengan metode kolorimetri. Profil ekskresi menunjukkan bahwa terbentuk kurva pada konsentrasi secara berurutan 14,4; 15,2; 15,6; 14.9; dan 14,2% pada jam ke-2, 3, 6, 8 dan 24. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa 74,3% asam askorbat diekskresikan melalui urin dalam jumlah besar dan pemakaian dosis tinggi suplemen seharusnya dipertimbangkan.Kata kunci: Asam askorbat, pemberian oral, dosis tunggal, profil ekskresi

Abstract

Objective: To analyze the role of selenium and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in cervical cancer.Methods: Serum selenium concentrations and GPx activities of 19 women with cervical cancer along with their healthy counterparts (control group) were obtained. Selenium concentration were measured fluorometrically and GPx activities were measured spectrophotometrically based on the quantity of NADPH used in the reduction of glutathione. Results: The mean of serum selenium concentrations in cervical cancer group was significantly lower than that in the control group, 67.24±15 ng/mL and 77.05±12 ng/mL (p=0.03), respectively. The mean GPx activity in the cervical cancer group was also significantly lower than that in the control group, 128.18±38 ∆mmol NADPH/min/L and 148.9±23 ∆mmol NADPH/min/L (p=0.04), respectively. Multivariate analysis in the cervical cancer patients showed that the Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d’Obstétrique (FIGO) staging score (early vs. advanced) was inversely correlated with serum selenium concentration (p=0.027).Conclusions: Serum selenium concentration and GPx activity was significantly lower in the cervical cancer patients. Our results demonstrate that selenium and GPx activity may have an important role in the carcinogenesis of cervical cancer. Abstract

An HPLC method was developed and validated for the pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction between Andrographis paniculata and ibuprofen in the plasma of Oryctolagus cuniculus rabbits after a single oral administration of the mixture. Nine healthy rabbits (6 males and 3 females, weight 1.68-2.42 kg) were acclimatized for 7 days and were randomly divided into 3 groups. At day-8th the rabbits were group (1) treated with a single oral administration of ibuprofen (dose of 28 mg/kg BW); group (2) treated with a single oral administration of Andrographis paniculata infusion (7.04 mL/kg BW); group (3) treated with a single oral administration of a mixture of Andrographis paniculata (7.04 mL/kg BW) infusion and ibuprofen (dose of 28 mg/kg BW). Plasma samples were prepared by collecting the blood from the marginal ear vein at 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after the mixture administration, followed by centrifuging it for 30 minutes 3000 rpm. Chromatographic separation was performed on a LiChrosorb RP-18 with methanol and double-distilled water (70:30) as the mobile phase, flow rate 1 mL/minute. UV detection was set at 227 nm. The absorption and distribution of ibuprofen were fast (Tmax = 30 min; Cmax = 4.02962 mcg/mL), however, interestingly this drug could improve the absorption and distribution of andrographolide in Oryctolagus cuniculus rabbits

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PPM) di Desa Cikidang sudah dilaksanakan selama tiga tahun berturut-turut. Masyarakat berpartisipasi sangat baik dan menginginkan kegiatan dapat dilakukan secara kontinu serta melibatkan masyarakat yang lebih luas. Desa Cikidang belum memiliki sarana kesehatan dan lokasi Puskesmas terdekat adalah di Desa Cikole, berjarak 3,5 km. Berdasarkan data dari Puskesmas Cikole periode tahun 2019, tercatat bahwa penyakit hipertensi memiliki angka kejadian tertinggi yaitu 135 kejadian. Kegiatan PPM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kader PKK tentang penyakit hipertensi dan juga tentang COVID-19. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan menerapkan metode hybrid luring dan daring (gabungan sinkronus dan asinkronus menggunakan media leaflet dan video). Dari sejumlah enam puluh undangan yang disebarkan, kegiatan PPM dihadiri oleh tiga puluh lima peserta. Hasil pre-test dan post-test menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan peserta, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendidikan kesehatan secara hybrid berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan kader PKK tentang COVID-19 dan Penyakit Hipertensi sebesar 13,56%.

Abstract

Teknik preparasi yang tepat dapat mempengaruhi hasil analisis sehingga pemilihan preparasi sampel yang tepat harus diperhitungkan terutama untuk analisis diazepam dalam matriks sampel yang rumit seperti serum dan urin. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) merupakan salah satu teknik preparasi yang efektif untuk mengekstrak analit target dari matriks kompleks sebelum analisis. Pemilihan monomer fungsional merupakan hal terpenting dalam pembuatan MIP yang baik, sehingga pemilihannya sesuai dengan sifat fisikokimia monomer dan diazepam sebagai tamplate. Interaksi monomer dan tamplate yang memberikan nilai binding affinity yang paling baik pada monomer asam adalah p-vinylbenzoic acid sebesar -3,3 kkal/mol, pada monomer basa adalah 5-[1-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)ethenyl]-1H-imidazole sebesar -3,8 kkal/mol dan pada monomer netral adalah ethylstyrene sebesar -3,6 kkal/mol. Dari semua monomer yang diuji baik monomer asam,basa atau netral yang menghasilkan binding affinity yang baik adalah monomer basa yaitu 5-[1-(2,3-dimethylphenyl)ethenyl]-1H-imidazole sebesar -3,8 kkal/mol yang artinya template diazepam akan berinteraksi dengan baik dengan monomer tersebut. Abstract

The restriction of social mobility and activity during the COVID-19 pandemic has been implemented to stop the deadly transmission of the SARS-CoV2 virus. People are forced to stay at home and strictly perform the COVID-19 health protocol in their daily activities. Currently, a continuous self-maintenance of the health, including oral health, is considered the best strategy worldwide. This community service activity aimed to assess the knowledge of the urban and rural adult community about oral health, comorbidity, and the quality of life (QoL) during this pandemic situation by using a pre-and post-test quasi-experimental design with an intervention of health-knowledge sharing using leaflets and videos, and a WHOQOL 2012 questionnaire to study the QoL. Paired t-test was used as statistical analysis. Total respondents were 131 (n = 76 for urban and n = 55 for rural), selected using the purposive sampling method. There was a significant difference between the results of the pre-test and post-test in both urban and rural groups (t count ranged from 1.69 to 5.98; p 0.05). Based on the WHOQOL 2012 questionnaire, both urban (90.79%) and rural (87.27%) respondents indicated a good QoL, while the remaining was scored as medium. Physical conditions/pain was the main domain that directly affects the QoL in both communities. It could be concluded that the knowledge-sharing intervention to the community gave a good impact in enhancing the knowledge of the respondents, however, a continuous program should be further carried out for better results.

Abstract

Hipertensi pada masyarakat mengalami peningkatan prevalensi disebabkan oleh faktor gaya hidup dan pola makan. Hipertensi dapat dicegah dengan manajemen konsumsi makanan seperti buah-buahan dalam mempertahankan asupan kalium. Buah merupakan salah satu sumber makanan yang mengandung tinggi kalium. Kalium dapat mempertahankan tekanan darah dalam rentang normal jika bekerja bersama natrium. Tingginya konsumsi kalium dalam buah dapat membantu proses natriuresis sehingga tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik akan turun. Tujuan dari ulasan ini adalah mengetahui kadar natrium dan kalium dalam buah tropis di tiga negara ASEAN untuk mengontrol tekanan darah pada masyarakat. Studi ini melibatkan 12 jurnal dan artikel nasional maupun internasional sesuai dengan kata kunci yang digunakan yaitu “kadar, kalium, natrium, buah tropis”. Buah tropis mengandung lebih banyak kalium dengan rasio 0,5-100 kali kadar natrium yang dapat membantu dalam mengontrol tekanan darah. Hasil studi ini menunjukkan buah tropis dengan kandungan kalium tinggi terdapat pada durian chanee kadar mencapai 4358,6 mg/100g, sedangkan kandungan natrium tinggi terdapat pada buah merah dengan kadar mencapai 166,67 mg/100g.

Abstract

Women have played a significant role in the history of human civilization, including Islamic civilization. Muslim women such as Khadijah, Aisha, and other female companions (shahabiyah) have made substantial contributions in various fields, including science, propagation of the faith, and activism. However, stigmas against highly educated women persist in certain societies. This research aims to investigate the Hadith perspective on women, education, and their role in Islamic civilization. This qualitative research employs a literature review to gather information. Relevant Hadiths pertaining to the concept of women's education are collected, analyzed deductively and inductively. Education is a fundamental right for all individuals, including women. Women's education is the key to empowering them in various aspects of life. The Hadith underscores the importance of seeking knowledge, especially religious knowledge. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the crucial role women play in shaping Islamic civilization and addresses the stigma surrounding women's education.

Abstract

The prevalence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension in Indonesia is increasing both in low- and high-income communities. Therefore, health awareness should be started from a younger age for the prospective future generation. This study, included in a community engagement activity, aims to assess the health profile, in terms of blood pressure (BP) and total cholesterol, of the students (by cross-sectional method) and teachers (by cohort method) of a private madrasah in the rural area of Kecamatan Ciparay, Kabupaten Bandung, West Java. 54 students and 10 teachers participated in this study. Results revealed that the students' average systolic and diastolic BP were 120.23 mmHg and 78.67 mmHg, respectively. The average systolic BP of the teachers in August 2021, January 2022, and August 2022 was 136.8 mmHg, 128.1 mmHg, and 131.9 mmHg, respectively. The average diastolic BP of the teachers in August 2021, January 2022, and August 2022 were 91.6 mmHg, 87.3 mmHg, and 87.1 mmHg, respectively. Moreover, the average cholesterol levels of the students (148.38 mg/dL) and the teachers (190.81 mg/dL) were categorized as normal. Taken together, the health profile of the students and the teachers in Madrasah Al Ihsan is within the normal range. This activity gets positive support from the school and needs sustainability.
