Abstract

To date, industrial wastewater treatment efforts have largely relied on conventional methods that are sensitive to environmental changes and less effective in degrading complex dyes such as Congo Red. One promising alternative approach is adsorption using biomass-based activated carbon, including waste derived from fish bones. This study aims to investigate the properties, surface characteristics, and adsorption mechanism of residual carbon obtained from crystal formation processes using waste bones of mackerel and featherback fish for Congo Red removal. The methodology involved carbonization at 500 °C, followed by sulfonation with concentrated H₂SO₄, and adsorption experiments with varying carbon particle size, contact time, and initial Congo Red concentration. The results demonstrate that fish bone waste carbon is highly effective in adsorbing Congo Red, with removal efficiency increasing with contact time and reaching equilibrium within 10 minutes at 99.8%. The optimum particle size was 200 mesh, and the maximum adsorption capacity was observed at Congo Red concentrations below 600 mg L⁻¹. Isotherm analysis revealed that the adsorption process follows the Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 16,666.6 mg g⁻¹. Meanwhile, kinetic data indicated that the adsorption behavior conforms to a pseudo-second-order model, with a rate constant of 666.6 g mg⁻¹ h⁻¹ at 25 °C.

Abstract

Learning interest is one of the factors that greatly influences students’ success in understanding the subject matter. In high school chemistry learning, learning interest plays an important role because chemistry requires conceptual understanding, analysis, and application in everyday life. However, in reality, students’ learning interest often differs between male and female students. Gender is assumed to be one of the factors influencing these differences, whether in terms of participation, or tendencies in the learning process.  This study aims to determine the level of learning interest of male and female students in chemistry subjects. This research employed a quantitative descriptive design with the population consisting of senior high school students in the PPU region, using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The sample was determined using the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 10%, resulting in a total of 113 students, consisting of 47 male students and 66 female students. Data were collected using a non-test technique in the form of a learning interest questionnaire. The final results showed that the percentage of learning interest among male students was 72%, indicating that most male students had a high level of learning interest in chemistry. Meanwhile, female students achieved a percentage of 82%, which indicates that almost all female students had a very high level of learning interest in chemistry.

Abstract

This research is driven by the instructional saturation and passive learning environment observed in green chemistry education at SMAN 8 Samarinda. The study aims to conduct a needs analysis and design an interactive learning medium called the Green Solver card game to increase student engagement and conceptual understanding. Using the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model, this research is specifically limited to the analysis and design stages. The subjects involved in this preliminary study were 1 chemistry teacher and 189 tenth-grade students as the primary data sources. The analysis stage, conducted through interviews and questionnaires, revealed that 76.2% of students found existing static media uninteresting, while 92.1% expressed a strong preference for the integration of game-based learning. In the design stage, the Green Solver card game was developed by adapting the "Truth or Dare" social mechanism into two strategic components: Theory cards and Action cards. Theory cards serve as retrieval practice tools to strengthen conceptual memory, whereas Action cards incorporate gamified challenges and environmental problem-solving tasks to alleviate learning anxiety and promote social collaboration. The resulting design includes a comprehensive guidebook, a tiered scoring system (5-40 points), and visual elements optimized for cognitive processing through dual coding. This study successfully produced a prototype blueprint that offers a holistic solution to transform classroom dynamics from passive to active learning.

Abstract

Chemistry learning faces challenges because topics such as reaction rates are abstract and require high analytical skills. Therefore, learning media such as ChatGPT are needed to provide additional explanations and support students’ learning process flexibly. This study aims to determine the effect of using ChatGPT on students’ learning outcomes in the reaction rate topic. The research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design of the intact group comparison type, involving 48 students divided into an experimental class and a control class, with the Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) learning model applied in both classes. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and observations of learning activities. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the learning outcomes of students in the experimental and control classes (0.373 > 0.05), with learning activities in both classes categorized as good to very good. Therefore, the use of ChatGPT in learning has not shown a significant effect on students’ learning outcomes in the reaction rate topic, suggesting that its use needs to be more carefully designed to better support students’ understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective Problem Based Learning (PBL) based chemistry e-module on reaction rate material for grade XI students at MA DDI Bontang in improving learning outcomes. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which includes the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate stages. The resulting product is a PBL-based e-module as a more interesting and non-monotonous teaching material. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, questionnaires, pretests, and posttests. The results showed that the developed e-module was very feasible to use based on validation by material experts of 90.0% and media experts of 87.0%. The use of PBL-based e-modules was also proven to be effective in improving student learning outcomes. The average posttest score of 85.4 was higher than the pretest score of 52.0. The t-test results showed that the t-count value of 19.146 was greater than the t-table of 2.042 at a significance level of 0.05, so there was a significant effect of the use of e-modules on student learning outcomes. In addition, student responses to the e-module were positive at 84.8%. Thus, the PBL-based e-module is feasible and effective for use in chemistry learning on reaction rates

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the efficiency and effectiveness of education financing and its impact on the quality of primary schools in the era of regional autonomy using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. The background of this study is based on the increasing demand for accountability in the management of education budgets, as well as disparities in educational quality across regions as a consequence of decentralization policies. The method employed follows the SLR procedure, including identification, screening, and synthesis of scholarly articles published between 2021 and 2026 from major academic databases. A total of 20 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns in the relationship between education financing and primary school quality. The findings reveal that the efficiency of education financing is more determined by the quality of school management in utilizing resources rather than the amount of funding available. The effectiveness of financing is strongly correlated with transparency and accountability in financial management, which ensures the appropriate allocation of funds. Furthermore, the impact of education financing on school quality is indirect (indirect effect), mediated by factors such as teacher performance, school leadership, and the quality of the learning process. The study also finds that regional autonomy leads to disparities in education financing and school quality due to differences in fiscal capacity and managerial competence across regions. In conclusion, increasing education funding does not automatically improve the quality of primary schools without effective governance and adequate managerial capacity. Therefore, strengthening financial management systems, enhancing transparency and accountability, and implementing equity-oriented policies are essential to ensure the effectiveness of education financing in the era of regional autonomy.
