Abstract

Vegetable products are foods that are popular with many people. One vegetable product such as green chili is a vegetable commodity that cannot be abandoned by society in daily life. This was followed by demands for quality of green chili products. so that an analytical tool is needed that can analyze the freshness of green chili easily and practically. This study aims to develop an edible freshness sensor based on anthocyanin indicators from purple sweet potato extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) with a membrane mixture of cassava starch and chitosan. The edible freshness sensor can be applied as a freshness sensor and know the freshness level of green chili with various parameters. Tests for green chili freshness test included pH test, weight loss, texture value, and sensory evaluation test. The color change of the edible freshness sensor was observed visually and tested using the ImageJ program to determine the mean green value. The results show the color change of the freshness sensor is dark purple when the green chili is fresh, the light purple is still fresh and the light green is no longer fresh or rotten. The mean value of the green sensor for edible freshness increased along with the decline in the quality of green chili in the packaging. Keywords: Anthocyanin, tapioca starch, chitosan, green chilli

Abstract

The novel on-package color indicator label has been fabricated based on bromophenol blue and a mixture between bromophenol blue and methyl red, and tests have been conducted to assess the ripeness of tomatoes (Lycopersicum commune). Bromophenol blue (BPB) and a mixture between bromophenol blue and methyl red (MM) were immobilized onto the Whatman paper membrane via the adsorption method. The BPB and mixture between BPB and MM/ Whatman paper membrane as color indicator work based on pH decrease as the volatile organic compounds. They are produced gradually in the package headspace during the development of tomato fruit. Subsequently, the combination indicator between bromophenol blue and methyl red changes from purple to red foul conditions, while the bromophenol blue indicator changes from blue to yellow foul conditions that can be seen visually. The results showed the color indicator can be used to determine the maturity conditions of tomatoes (Lycopersicum commune) at room temperature and chiller temperature. Furthermore, there are also changes in several parameters (pH, texture, weight loss, sensory evaluation) that are commonly used for the ripeness characteristics of tomatoes (Lycopersicum commune). Therefore, this indicator can be used for visual monitoring of the maturing of the tomatoes in packaging.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia and hypercholesterolemia’s cases are increasing. Noninvasive early detection method should be develope. Development of smart sanitary napkins based on paper chip biosensors using “Whatman” filter paper through screen printing and immobilized with pH 6 citrate buffer and iron (III)-actress- (1,10-phenanthroline) complex reagent for detection of uric acid and cholesterol oxidase enzymes and reagent 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS)) for cholesterol detection. The analysis of the paper chip biosensor has a response time of 10 minutes for uric acid detection and 25 minutes for cholesterol detection. Uric acid linearity 2 - 20 mg / dL and cholesterol 50 - 500 mg / dL. The LOD and LOQ detection areas for uric acid were 0.322 mg / dL and 0.965 mg / dL, respectively, while the cholesterol detection areas were 8.740 mg / dL and 26.221 mg / dL, respectively. NaCl interference interfering with the detection of uric acid and cholesterol was 5.746% and 6.388%, respectively and creatinine interference interfering with the detection of uric acid and cholesterol was 5.868% and 5.583%, respectively. The precision for uric acid detection was 1.252% (RSD <3.7%) and cholesterol detection was 0.059% (RSD <2.7%). The accuracy (% recovery) for uric acid detection was 100.333% and for cholesterol, the detection was 100.016%. Smart bandages can be used to analyze the initial conditions of hyperuricemia and hypercholesterolemia.
