Abstract

This study aims to apply vaccination against bacterial disease. The purpose of vaccination is to trigger the immune respone both non-specific and specific of fish against bacteria Motile Aeromonas Septicaemia (MAS) caused by Aeromonas hydrophila. The vaccination for fish with different ages: 2-3 weeks and 5 weeks were done using immersion method. The fish were re-vaccinated (booster) after two weeks of the first vaccination. The survival rate was < 50 % for juveniles 2-3 weeks and > 50% for juveniles 5 weeks. Survival rate for juveniles 5 weeks was higher than juveniles of 2-3 weeks. This shows that organs of juveniles of 5 weeks were more complete than the 2-3 weeks juveniles. The age of fish is one of the important factors for successfully vaccination.

Abstract

Sea products are valuable resources of natural substances such as lipids, polysaccharides, enzymes, vitamins, and proteins. Fish proteases have been characterized and some purified. Many of these enzymes display potentially interesting new biochemical properties for biotechnological applications. In this research, we have found activity of some proteases (alkaline proteinase, cathepsin S and cathepsin D) in muscle tissues of marine tropical commercial fish species in North Sulawesi (i.e. Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, Caranx ferdau, Lutjanus malabricus, and Katsuwonus pelamis). All of these fish are economical species with low prices that are highly consumed by local people©Produk yang berasal dari laut merupakan sumberdaya yang kaya akan bahan-bahan alamiah seperti lipida, polisakarida, enzim, vitamin dan protein.

Abstract

Abstract

Kata kunci: minute rotifer, Lecane sp, Colurella sp, larva   This study aims to get minute rotifers (small rotifers) in the waters of North Sulawesi which has the potential to be used as starting food for marine fish larvae. The sampling for rotifers was conducted in seven different estuarine locations using plankton net (mesh size 40 mm). Rotifer identification procedure was based on morphological appearances. Morphometric observations were conducted under 40-100x magnification microscope connected to a computer for visualization and measurement. Three rotifer species were able to be isolated from three different estuarine locations. Colurella sp. was isolated from a brackish pond (salinity of 25 ppt) which were filled with household garbage in Tumpaan, Minahasa regency. Lecane sp. cf Lecane quadridentata (Lecane) was isolated from a brackish pond (salinity of 17 ppt) in Meras-Manado and Lecane sp. cf Lecane papuana at the estuary of a small river (salinity <3 ppt) in Tateli, Minahasa regency. All minute rotifers were successfully domesticated and showed positive adaptation in microalgae-based rearing. Colurella sp, Lecane sp. cf L. quadridentata and Lecane sp. cf L. papuana have lorica length (PL) of 97.10 ± 3.58 mm, 130.83 ± 12.06 mm, and 118.70 ± 5.46 mm, respectively, and lorica width (LL) of 55.37 mm ± 2.04, 91.95 ± 10.58 mm, and 101.28 ± 6.623 mm. They were significantly smaller than B. rotundiformis (PL of 167.41 ± 9.10 mm and LL 122.44 ± 7.29 mm) (p<0.05), which are commonly used in larva rearing. Thus these rotifers have potentials to be used as starting food for marine fish larvae that need a smaller size food. Keywords: Minute rotifer, Lecane sp, Colurella sp, larva

Abstract

ABSTRACTAquaculture has contributed one third of the world is supply of seafood. This contribution is expected to increase in the future. Based on this reason, aquaculture is potential to continually provide food for human needs. One of the key factors to the success of aquaculture is the supply of nutritious feed. Feeding with food of right nutrition value will produce healthy and high quality fish. One of the nutrient elements that plays an important role in aquatic organism growth is lipid. Lipids in the form of essential fatty acids are highly required not only for broodstock and larvae, but also for normal growth of marine fish.ABSTRAKAkuakultur telah memberikan kontribusi sebesar sepertiga kebutuhan dunia akan produk makanan laut, dan akan terus bertambah di masa depan.
