Abstract

Breakwaters are highly effective breakwater constructions that can be used to protect harbor waters by interrupting wave energy coming from the deep sea. Widely used breakwaters today are of the pile type, both natural and artificial. The drawback of rock breakwaters is that they are large in size and therefore very expensive to issue. Therefore, a new type of breakwater is needed that is smaller in size and cheaper to build. One solution that can be applied is a suspended breakwater. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of wave parameters on the coefficient of wave transmission through a suspended breakwater. The research was conducted at the Marine Technology Research Laboratory, Hasanuddin University. The parameters in this study were carried out with 5 variations of wave height, 5 variations of wave period (T), and 3 variations of model length (L). From the results of the research we have done, it can be concluded that the value of the transmission coefficient (Kt) is inversely proportional to the steepness of the wave (Hi/L). Figure 3 shows that when compared between model variations (L1 = 40 cm; L2 = 50 cm; and L3 = 60 cm) with depth conditions (d = 70 cm) and with period variations (T 1; T 1.2; T 1.5; T 1.8 and T2 s), it can be seen that the Kt value is lower in the third model variation, L3 = 60 cm with a value of 0.095 < Kt < 0.53.

Abstract

Abstract

Lakkang Island is a small island located in Tallo district, Makassar City, geographically located in the middle of the Makassar Urban Territory, its location is in the delta of the tallo river, so it is isolated from the mainland of Makassar. Access to Lakkang Island must be through water transportation lines by traditional boat (katamaran) as a means of crossing, this is due to the lack of bridge access towards Lakkang. To support the development of tourist areas and the needs of citizens for means of access to transportation. The port becomes the main facility as the suspension of ships that take off passengers, vehicles, goods. The lake islands are in a location on the tallo river and have close proximity to the lightning. The location and the surroundings make this harbour different from the river harbour in general. Analysis of the retreat into one of the parameters of the current, depth. The floating dock could be one of the applications on Lakkang Island. In the design of floating dock the thing to notice is that the size of the gates is small namum has a large capacity. Using load analysis using some material found the influence of the pelate thickness on draft and freeboard at the time of the planned full condition on the floating dock.

Abstract

Tallo River is located in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, and has an important role in the Mamminasata region. The flow of the Tallo River that crosses the center of Makassar City has a strategic location in the urban area of Mamminasata. Ocean currents refer to the movement of water masses, both horizontally and vertically, that reach equilibrium. Factors that affect ocean currents include pressure gradients, winds, pressure or density differences, and tides. In many waters, the main factors affecting the strength of currents are wind and tides. The data used in this study included riverbank line data from Google Earth Pro, tidal data measured directly in the field from two different points, namely the Monkey pier and the Tallo pier, bathymetric data used to create an unstructured network taken directly in the field, and wind data obtained from ECMWF. The results showed that the water level in the Tallo River, Makassar, South Sulawesi was influenced by tides. At low tide, the river flow flows towards the mouth of the river, while at high tide, the direction of the river flow towards the upper reaches of the river with the current rotating in certain locations. The water level in the Tallo River ranges from 0.8 to 2.2 meters, and the current speed varies between 0.015 to 0.21 m/s.

Abstract

An activity at a container port  is  not without risk, usually operating lifting and transportation support equipment in the form  of rubber tyre gantry crane (RTG) or  loading container crane (CC). In loading and unloading is one of the big causes of work accidents. One way to control potential risks and hazards is first by analyzing the possibility of work accidents using Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to minimize the possibility of work accidents during the loading and unloading process. This study aims to analyze the  potential hazards and risks arising in each container handling activity, using JSA analysis and identifying actions or procedures to control potential hazards and risks that will arise at each stage of work. The advantage of this research is that it can be used as a basis and information in the form of hazards and risks of work accidents and to conduct occupational safety analysis such as assessment of the risk of work accidents in this field. The process of loading and unloading containers is a reference in controlling the risk of accidents in the workplace, especially during handling or haulage activities. The analysis process is carried out after, the process of identifying potential hazards is carried out. Risk assessment is a process of prioritizing the control of the risk level of accidents or occupational diseases, so as to reduce the increased risk of accidents in the loading and unloading process

Abstract

Bantaeng Industrial Zone (KIBA) is located in Bantaeng Regency and was initiated with the establishment of Bantaeng Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2012 concerning the Spatial Planning of Bantaeng Regency for the period 2012-2032. The Pa'jukukang Subdistrict was designated as a large industrial area covering an area of 3,128 hectares. KIBA was also designated as a National Strategic Project (PSN) through Presidential Regulation 9 of 2022 regarding the Amendment to Presidential Regulation 7/2021 on the Amendment of the National Strategic Project List. Based on data from the Bantaeng Regency Investment and One-Stop Service Office from 2010 to 2017, there were 13 companies with various business fields. Changes in the coastline along the Bantaeng coast are caused by sediment transport resulting from wind and wave action. This study aims to determine the characteristics of sediment and the annual sediment transport rate along the coast. The sediment transport analysis results indicate that for the representative 1% wave, it is 2,134.84 m3/year, for the representative 10% wave, it is 993.91 m3/year, for the representative 50% wave, it is 461.45 m3/year, and for the representative 100% wave, it is 147.89 m3/year. All sediment transport is directed westward. The larger the percentage of the representative wave, the smaller the total sediment transport discharge (Q) produced.

Abstract

Coastal and marine geohazard threats can occur in coastal tourism areas in Makassar City. Several coastal tourism sites in Makassar City are managed by the community, namely by the Tanjung Merdeka Community Empowerment Agency (LPM) and acts as a partner for socialisation activities. Tourism managers are still ignorant of the potential for coastal and marine geohazards, such as the lack of information on geohazard signs and the potential for accidents that lead to disasters for tourism visitors. Socialisation of coastal and marine geohazards in Makassar City's coastal tourism areas has been carried out with an increase in the average knowledge of participants by 45.3%. The increase in partner knowledge includes awareness, preparedness, and disaster response attitudes about coastal and marine geohazard phenomena in coastal tourism activities, which can ultimately encourage and realise partners as community-based tourism managers who implement early warning of disaster risk and occupational safety. Strengthening partners is realised by handing over coastal and ocean geohazard signs as an early warning of disasters that can occur at tourist sites.

Abstract

One of the rivers with potential for development into a river transportation system in the city of Makassar is the Tallo River, which is approximately 22.2 km long. This river can connect the Tamalanrea sub-district with the coastal area of Makassar. Currently, the Tallo River is utilized as a transportation route to Lakkang Island, which is one of the tourist destinations. Based on the relatively wide characteristics of the river, the Tallo River can accommodate vessels with a relatively large draft. However, a study is needed to determine the maximum draft of vessels that can operate in the river based on water depth and air clearance at the Reformasi Toll Bridge. The objective of this research is to determine the maximum draft and freeboard of vessels that can operate in the Tallo River, identify areas of shoaling, and calculate the volume of dredging required. The research begins with literature review, collection of secondary and primary data, data analysis, and identification of shoaling points for calculating dredging volume. The data collected includes bathymetric data, tidal data, current data, bottom sediment data, and river discharge data. Based on the data analysis results, the maximum vessel draft before dredging is 1.0 m LWL with an air clearance of 1.9 m from the high tide water level. After dredging, the draft of vessels that can use the Tallo River is 1.5 m LWL. The locations requiring dredging are 13 points, with a total dredging volume of 1283.49.

Abstract

Lakkang is one of the neighbourhoods located in Tallo Sub-district, Makassar City and is a residential area and tourist destination purpose. Lakkang can be accessed from varius directions, namely from Kera-kera and Tallo. To get to Lakkang, people currently use catamaran boats. In order to support shipping to Lakkang, a pier was built on the island called the Lakkang pier. Lakkang Pier is made of wood. The existing pier at this time during the high tide season with flood discharge the pier is submerged in water, the distance between the pier floor and the low tide elevation is 1.93 m and the condition of the pier construction is not safe for the process of loading and unloading goods and getting on and off passengers. Therefore, a pier design is needed that can overcome these problems. The purpose of this research is to conduct preliminary planning of floating docks in Lakkang. The research starts from collecting secondary data and primary data. Secondary data includes spatial planning documents, social economy and river discharge. While primary data include tides, bathymetry, shipload, and ship data. Furthermore, analysis of all data collected was carried out to determine the dimensions of the floating dock. The planning results obtained the dimensions of the planned pier have a length of 9.2 m, a width of 5.2 m, a height of 0.708 m, and a ladder of 0.115 m.

Abstract

Tidal energy is a renewable energy source that provides sustainable energy through the utilization of tidal differences, making it a very promising option. This study examines a more effective tidal energy reservoir model by building a 1:100 scale prototype in the laboratory with several predetermined variations, namely an earthen pond (100, 80, and 60 cm), and flow holes (1.5, 1, and 0.5 cm) with initial tidal height differences of 10 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm. The model uses a 6-hour time period, which corresponds to a semidiurnal tidal model. The results showed that the highest energy output was 281.84 kWh, achieved with a 1.5 cm flow hole, 20 cm tidal height difference for the initial condition, and 80 cm pond width. For a 1 cm flow hole, the outputs were 1774.8 kWh and 1803.78 kWh for 15 cm and 20 cm tidal height difference for the initial condition with a pond width of 100 cm. Meanwhile, the 0.5 cm flow hole produces potential energy outputs of 2623.8 kWh and 2611.4 kWh for different tidal heights of 15 cm and 20 cm for the initial condition with a pond width of 100 cm. Better model performance can be connected to a mini generator to validate the energy generated from the designed prototype model. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2024-010-09-016 Full Text: PDF
