Abstract

According to researchers from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, the 2017 DKI Jakarta Governor election was the worst election in the history of Indonesian democracy. The impact of the gubernatorial election caused polarization in the community which was delivered by the practice of populism by the political actors involved during the campaign period. Populism is present as a political rhetorical strategy that is able to build sentiment comparisons in the public by building a class comparison between "the people" and "the elite". The focus of this research is to analyze the types of populism strategies used by the political actors involved. The method used in this research is Norman Fairlcough's critical discourse analysis with a qualitative approach. The analysis and study in this research are constructed from the theory of Social Identity by Henri Tajfel through three processes namely social grouping, social identification, and social comparison. The results of this study show the aspects that are highlighted from the implementation of populism by the two political actors involved and the types of populism strategies they implement. It was concluded that Basuki Tjahja Purnama or Ahok implemented technocratic populism and Anies Rasyid Baswedan implemented social (democratic) populism in his campaign process. Menurut peneliti dari Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, pemilihan Gubernur DKI Jakarta tahun 2017 merupakan pemilu terburuk dalam sejarah demokrasi Indonesia. Dampak dari Pilgub menimbulkan polarisasi di masyarakat yang dihantarkan oleh praktik populisme oleh para aktor politik yang terlibat pada masa kampanye. Populisme hadir sebagai sebuah strategi retorika politik yang mampu membangun perbandingan sentimen di publik dengan membangun kelas perbandingan antara “rakyat” dan “elit”. Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis jenis strategi populisme yang digunakan oleh para aktor politik yang terlibat. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis wacana kritis Norman Fairlcough dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Analisis dan kajian dalam penelitian ini dikonstruksi dari teori Identitas Sosial oleh Henri Tajfel melalui tiga proses yaitu pengelompokan sosial, identifikasi sosial, dan perbandingan sosial. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan aspek – aspek yang ditonjolkan dari implementasi populisme oleh dua aktor politik yang terlibat serta jenis strategi populisme yang diimplementasikannya. Basuki Tjahja Purnama atau Ahok mengimplementasikan populisme teknoratik dan Anies Rasyid Baswedan mengimplementasikan populisme sosial (demokratik) dalam proses kampanyenya.

Abstract

This research discusses how the interpretation of offense is conveyed through Stand Up Comedy. Stand Up Comedy itself is a form of solo comedian art performed by an individual known as a comedian or comic. Stand Up Comedy often touches on the consequences of meaning or content embedded in comedic material. Pandji Pragiwaksono is one of the comedians who frequently presents comedy material derived from a social issue or problem, often resulting in criticism or offense to certain parties. This research uses a qualitative research approach to interpret offense in a humorous context. The purpose of this research is to examine how the portrayal of meaning in offense is conveyed through Stand Up Comedy. The method and theory used in this research is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis technique which interprets a sign from the presence of a signifier and a sign that is present as an element that regulates the process of creating a meaning, which can be explained further into the meaning of denotation, connotation and myth. The findings from this research are how Pandji Pragiwaksono conveys offense through a Stand-Up Comedy show, which is packaged in the form of comedy material that contains a humorous message that focuses on three aspects, namely race, religion, and political elements. Penelitian ini membahas tentang bagaimana pemaknaan ketersinggungan yang disampaikan melalui Stand Up Comedy. Stand Up Comedy sendiri merupakan seni lawakan tunggal yang dibawakan oleh satu orang yang biasa dikenal sebagai comika atau comic. Sebuah Stand Up Comedy kerap kali menyinggung akibat dari suatu makna atau isi yang terkandung di dalam suatu materi komedi. Pandji Pragiwaksono merupakan salah satu comika yang kerap kali membawakan materi komedi yang berasal dari suatu isu atau masalah sosial yang sedang terjadi, yang berujung pada sebuah celaan atau menyinggung beberapa pihak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dalam memaknai ketersinggungan dalam humor. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana penggambaran suatu makna ketersinggungan yang disampaikan melalui Stand Up Comedy. Metode dan teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yang memaknai sebuah tanda dari adanya sebuah penanda dan pertanda yang hadir sebagai elemen yang mengatur proses terciptanya suatu makna, yang dapat dijelaskan lebih jauh ke dalam sebuah makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Hasil temuan dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana Pandji Pragiwaksono menyampaikan suatu ketersinggungan melalui sebuah show Stand Up Comedy yang dikemas dalam bentuk materi komedi yang berisikan pesan humor di dalamnya, yang berfokus kepada tiga aspek, yaitu ras, agama, dan unsur politik.

Abstract

Indonesia is a multicultural country. This condition makes Indonesia become highly vulnerable to conflicts between ethnic or inter-religious. To avoid conflicts, as a country Indonesia required tolerance to maintain inter-religious harmony in Indonesia. Minahasa, especially Jaton Village is one of the areasin Indonesia, which can maintain its sense of tolerance and harmony. Jaton village is a village full of history and the majority of its citizens are Muslims, but the villagers were able to mingle and interact with the Christian’s citizens. The theories used in this research are the concept of intercultural communication and intercultural conflict by Samovar et all and Littlejohn & Domenici. This research is also used the concept of social interaction by Gillinand Gillin. This research was conducted using qualitative case study methods, with the aim to find out the intercultural communication between the residents in Jaton village, and as the result the harmony can be maintained. Based on this research, researcher find that acculturation is happens between Muslims citizens and Christian citizens as majority. This acculturation indicates that the interaction formed between the two religious groups is an associative interaction patterns, so there is no conflict as it is in other areas.Indonesia merupakan negara yang multikultural. Hal ini menjadikan Indonesia sangat rentan terkena konflik antaretnis atau antaragama. Untuk menghindari konflik tersebut diperlukan toleransi untuk menjaga kerukunan antara umat beragama. Salah satu daerah yang dapat memelihara toleransi dan kerukunan tersebut adalah Minahasa atau lebih tepatnya di Kampung Jaton yang merupakan kampung yang penuh sejarah dan mayoritas warganya beragama Islam, tetapi penduduk desa tersebut mampu berbaur dan berinteraksi dengan baik pada warga Minahasa lainnya yang beragama Kristen. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah konsep komunikasi lintas budaya dan konflik antar budaya oleh Samovar dan Littlejohn & Domenici. Kemudian juga digunakan konsep interaksi sosial dari Gillin dan Gillin. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif studi kasus, dan dengan tujuan untuk mencari komunikasi lintas budaya seperti apa yang terjadi antara penduduk di Kampung Jaton dengan warga mayoritas yang berbeda agama sehingga kerukunan dapat terus terjaga. Berdasarkan penelitian ini didapatkan hasil bahwa terjadi akulturasi antara warga yang beragama Islam dengan yang beragama Kristen. Akulturasi ini menandakan bahwa interaksi yang terbentuk antara kedua kelompok agama merupakan pola interaksi asosiatif, sehingga tidak terjadi konflik seperti yang terdapat pada daerah lain.

Abstract

YouTube has increasingly gained popularity among news media outlets. Numerous contents have been uploaded on news media official YouTube channels either in the form of regular or commercial news. In Indonesia, two national news media outlets, Kompas.com and Tribunnews.com, which initially focused on publishing their articles on their website, have employed so-called mobile journalists who can primarily produce and edit news videos for YouTube. This study is part of our research on the content industry in a disruptive era with mass media in Indonesia as a subject. This research aims to seek editorial and commercial content sources from mobile journalists and the considerations mobile journalists should make when creating editorial and commercial content for YouTube news channels. To answer these questions, we have identified the trending topics on social media and conducted a content analysis. In addition, we observed Kompas.com and Tribunnews.com YouTube channels and conducted interviews with the news editorial staff. The findings showed that regular news, trending and viral news, unique and in-depth reporting and online events, international news, Q&A with experts based on users' comments, and hot news from other YouTube accounts are the primary news sources for mobile journalists. These are utilized for either business purposes or newsroom agendas. It also discusses what aspects the journalists must consider before producing editorial and commercial content on their YouTube news channels.

Abstract

The aim of the research carried out is to describe the activities of the Instagram social media account @abouttng as a medium of information for the people of Tangerang City. The research carried out also applied qualitative research and used descriptive analysis methods. A method used to collect research data is applied by processing the data from primary data sources. The results of interviews conducted with the admin of the Instagram account @abouttng are the source of this data, and the research subjects are captions and comments from followers of the Instagram account @abouttng which are relevant to the research objectives. Then there are secondary data sources which are sources of reading material, in the form of books and research results in the form of reports and so on. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan aktivitas media sosial Instagram akun @abouttng sebagai media informasi untuk masyarakat Kota Tangerang. Penelitian ini menerapkan jenis penelitian kualitatif serta menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. Hasil wawancara yang dilakukan dengan admin akun Instagram @abouttng merupakan sumber data ini, dan subjek penelitian adalah caption dan komentar pengikut akun Instagram @abouttng yang relevan dengan tujuan penelitian. Lalu ada sumber data sekunder yang merupakan sumber bahan bacaan, berupa buku-buku dan hasil-hasil penelitian yang berwujud laporan dan lain sebagainya.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Indonesia merupakan negara dengan salah satu tingkat literasi terendah di dunia. Meskipun ada kemajuan dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, tantangan masih banyak, seperti akses pendidikan yang tidak merata, kualitas pendidikan yang bervariasi, dan faktor sosial ekonomi yang mempengaruhi kemampuan individu untuk mengakses bahan bacaan. Beberapa upaya telah dilakukan oleh pemerintah dan lembaga swasta untuk meningkatkan tingkat literasi, termasuk program-program membaca, pelatihan guru, dan penyediaan materi bacaan yang lebih bervariasi. Masyarakat juga semakin didorong untuk menyadari pentingnya literasi tidak hanya sebagai kemampuan membaca dan menulis, tetapi juga sebagai keterampilan dasar dalam menghadapi informasi di dunia modern. Dalam rangka berkontribusi dalam meningkatkan minat literasi anak di Indonesia, mahasiswa dan Dosen Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Tarumanagara membentuk Program Ceria Bercerita. Program ini merupakan program perkuliahan Humaniora yang bertujuan untuk membantu masyarakat melalui program meningkatkan minat membaca anak-anak melalui metode yang interaktif dan menarik. Selain itu program ini juga berkaitan dengan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) yang fokus kepada untuk program nomor 4 yaitu  Quality Education atau kualitas pendidikan. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di sekolah KB TK Tarakanita 3 yang beralamat di  Jl. Juraganan 1, RT.8/RW.11, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta. Pihak sekolah juga telah memberikan persetujuan dan bahkan ingin program ceria bercerita ini masuk ke dalam kurikulum pembelajaran mereka sebagai bagian dalam meningkatkan literasi anak-anak. Karya ilmiah ini disusun untuk memberikan gambaran umum mengenai berbagai kegiatan serta rencana yang telah ditetapkan pada Program Ceria Bercerita. Ketercapaian dari kegiatan ini adalah dapat mendapat masukan dan saran dalam mengembankan materi pembelajaran di sekolah KB TK Tarakanita.

Abstract

This research aims to study the components of how Public Relations (PR) strategies are represented in the film Our Brand is Crisis using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory. This study explores the representation of PR strategies through visual, verbal and symbolic elements that create meaning in political communication. With a qualitative approach, this study found four main Public Relations (PR) strategies: publication, persuasion, argumentation, and image formation. All of these strategies are used to build public perceptions of candidates, influence people's opinions, shape political identities, and create successful leadership myths. Through Roland Barthes' semiotics analyzing denotation, connotation, and myth, this study illustrates how political narratives create effective candidate images. The results of this research encourage further research on the role of semiotics in the study of political communication and provide insight into the importance of strategic communication in building images in the context of mass media and politics. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari komponen mengenai bagaimana strategi Public Relations (PR) di representasikan dalam film Our Brand is Crisis menggunakan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Studi ini mengeksplorasi representasi strategi PR melalui elemen visual, verbal, dan simbolik yang menciptakan makna dalam komunikasi politik. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif, Studi ini menemukan empat strategi Public Relations (PR) utama: publikasi, persuasi, argumentasi, dan pembentukan citra. Semua strategi ini digunakan untuk membangun persepsi publik terhadap kandidat, mempengaruhi pendapat orang, membentuk identitas politik, dan menciptakan mitos kepemimpinan yang berhasil.Strategi-strategi ini digunakan untuk membangun persepsi publik terhadap kandidat, memengaruhi opini, membentuk identitas politik, dan menciptakan mitos kepemimpinan. Melalui semiotika Roland Barthes menganalisis denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos, studi ini menggambarkan bagaimana narasi politik menciptakan citra kandidat yang efektif. Hasil penelitian ini mendorong penelitian lebih lanjut tentang peran semiotika dalam studi komunikasi politik dan memberikan wawasan tentang pentingnya komunikasi strategis dalam membangun citra dalam konteks media massa dan politik.

Abstract

In 2023, various music concerts will begin to be held nationally and internationally. Indonesian music fans came in droves to enliven the music concert. Audience music concert activities do not only focus on concerts and purchasing concert tickets but also on crowds in the virtual sector. The activity of watching a music concert is documented and uploaded via social media and Instagram. The use of hashtags is used to support the concert as well as being a means of self-actualization as a music fan. Uploads on Instagram social media with the hashtag immediately received attention from other social media users who were interested in the concert. From this explanation, this research will look at two things. Firstly, how influential hashtags on Instagram are in increasing audience engagement through three music concerts held in Indonesia. Second, look at the comparison of the three music concert hashtags. The research approach used in this research is quantitative, using extensive data-based social network analysis (SNA) methods. The application used in this research is Analisia.io, an artificial intelligence (AI) social analytic application as a tool for collecting virtual data according to the researchers' criteria. The first result of this research is that #blackpinkworldtourjakarta's cumulative total audience engagement is 17,653. #the90festival cumulative total audience engagement 144,150. And #coldplayjakarta, the total audience engagement was 811,387. The first Instagram hashtag most discussed virally is #coldplayjakarta, the second is the hashtag #the90festival, and the last is the hashtag #blackpinkworldtourjakarta. From this analysis, Instagram hashtag comparison activities in increasing audience engagement through music concerts in Indonesia fall into the concept of a network society: timelessness, the cultural consequences of information capitalism, the power of identity, and changing times.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how the expectations of each ethnic group in maintaining the issue of inter-ethnic life harmony in the Province of West Kalimantan, especially in Pontianak City which consists of the majority of the ethnics of Dayak, Malay, and Tionghoa. Multi-ethnic life in Pontianak City often creates various conflicts. This study is a qualitative research using descriptive qualitative method. In this study, the reseachers linked several theories of intercultural communication and identified the communication barriers such as Stereotype, Ethnocentrism, etc. This study found that inter-ethnic conflicts can arise due to the absence of opened mind in facing the differences, the lack of mutual tolerance and mutual respect among ethnic groups. In addition, communication barriers also become one of the factors of the arise of such inter-ethnic conflict.

Abstract

Background: As COVID-19 subsides, the government is working to rebuild the collapsed economic foundations. One area of focus is the development of the music industry in Indonesia. In 2023, concerts in Indonesia began to reemerge at the national and international levels. The Dewa 19 concert at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and the Blackpink concert at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium attracted a lot of attention. These concerts boosted the economy in several sectors, including alternative tourism. This study aims to explore the supporting components of alternative tourism through concerts and the strategic role of communication in developing the creative economy. Method: This study used a quantitative descriptive method. Results: The music industry in Indonesia has experienced a resurgence, with events such as The 90s Festival and international concerts, the Blackpink’s Born Pink World Tour. These music festivals increase tourism, providing economic opportunities for businesses and local communities. Blackpink’s concert in Jakarta is a prime example of how concerts can create economic value and social excitement. In addition, international concerts enhance Indonesia’s global image and reputation, and demonstrate the country’s ability to organize large-scale events. Conclusion: The rise of the Indonesian music industry and the impact of international concerts demonstrate the diverse cultural and economic dimensions of music in Indonesia and its ability to adapt, evolve, and thrive in the modern era.
