Abstract

Bipolar Spectrum Disorder is relatively common and often occurs since college years. This study analyzed the differences between prevalence and risk factors of Bipolar Spectrum Disorder in medical and non medical students at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. It was an observational analytic study design with a cross-sectional approach using accidental sampling technique. The population and subject were medical students and accounting students batch 2017. Data collection was carried out in 2 ways, by face to face questionnaire filling and by electronic questionnaire (google form). Total respondents recruited were 441 students. The prevalence of medical students who received positive screening results for Bipolar Spectrum Disorder was 19 (7.8%) for medical students and 9 (4.5%) for non medical students. There is no significant difference between the prevalence and risk factors of Bipolar Spectrum Disorder in medical and non-medical students. However, study found significant difference in relations of risk factors such as history of maternal complication, physically abused in childhood, experienced severe failure, sibling committed suicide, experiencing the stress of life, experiencing catastrophic event, history of severe physical illness with positive Bipolar Spectrum Disorder among students.

Abstract

Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a leading cause of disability worldwide; however, the role of personality traits in shaping quality of life (QoL) after total knee replacement (TKR) remains poorly understood, particularly in non-Western populations. This study investigated the relationship between Big Five personality profiles and QoL in patients with KOA who underwent TKR. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was conducted in 2019–2020 and involved 91 patients who underwent TKR between January 2015 and December 2017. Personality was assessed using the Big Five Inventory-44 (BFI-44), while quality of life was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF. Data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation and Mann–Whitney tests. Results: Most participants were women (74.7%) and aged 63–66 years (69.3%). The predominant personality profile featured low openness (80.2%), high conscientiousness (92.3%), high extraversion (89.0%), high agreeableness (83.5%), and low neuroticism (85.7%). Social relationships scored highest (65.56±7.228) and physical health lowest (58.77±3.442). No significant correlation was found between any personality domain and QoL measures (all p>0.05). Conclusions: No statistically significant relationship was found between Big Five personality profiles and QoL in patients with post-TKR KOA. The observed personality patterns reflect Asian collectivist cultural norms. Physical recovery demands may overshadow personality influences on QoL in this population. Longitudinal studies with larger, culturally diverse samples are warranted.

Abstract

Pregnancy in the third trimester has the potential to cause physical and psychological changes that cause anxiety, if not treated, will have an impact on the health of the mother and fetus. Family support plays an important role in helping mothers adapt. Based on a preliminary study at the Mulyorejo Health Center, 10 out of 12 (83.33%) pregnant women still experience anxiety before childbirth, so this study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and pregnancy anxiety in the third trimester at the Mulyorejo Health Center. This type of study was quantitative observational analysis with a cross sectional method on 32 respondents. The instruments used were the Family Support Pregnancy Questionnaire modification questionnaire and the PRAQ-R2 modified questionnaire, with Spearman Rho analysis. The results showed that most of the respondents had family support both (93.75%) and moderate anxiety (50.00%), it was found that information support was the highest aspect and emotional support was the lowest aspect, as well as the highest anxiety related to contractions and childbirth. The results of the Spearman correlation test showed no significant association between family support and pregnancy anxiety (p = 0.453 and r = 0.137), so anxiety was also affected by other factors outside of family support.
